So when are we expecting Geno to be revealed, at this point?
Like I said in my monologue, we're less than 8 weeks from the 35th anniversary of Super Mario as of today. We'll be slightly more than a month and a half on July 27th and roughly 40 days on August 3rd. If Nintendo has any sort of plans for around September 13th, that's incredibly short notice. Like I pointed out the other day, a "safe" amount of time to get a game good to go for retailers is 2-3 months. If we count a month as a literal 30 days, Nintendo is already a week behind schedule as of TODAY for the ideal bare minimum and we're likely not getting anything else this week.

Given that Nintendo has an investor meeting on the 6th, chances are that's where the gloves come off and they get their reveals/act together

I don't think people are realizing how big this was. Those guys aren't outwardly ***** to the general population and at least Jeff and Andre are on the record for being Geno fans (not sure about Imran). They are very aware of who their tweets reach and I actually would be surprised if they were "kidding around" about a character as beloved as Geno. That's borderline mean if so. They know something.
To play devil's advocate, they could just be comfortable with ****ing with Geno fans, since we're seen as acceptable targets. I personally doubt that's the case, but you never know.

How many of you will main 100% Geno? I’m on that list. I’m a projectile/distance guy since my first Smash when I was 9 years old (Smash 64 in 1999).

My Mains are Toon Link & Mega Man. There aren’t other characters I’m good at as I am with those two. Toon Link since Brawl and Mega Man since Wii U have been my all time partners in this game (also in general cause Zelda and Mega Man are my 2 favorites franchises outside of Smash). Back in the days of 64 and Melee I think I was a lot a Samus/Link/Young Link guy.

Now in Ultimate even if I tried with Samus, Young Link or others, no one will ever reach my 2 mains in Ultimate: Toon and Mega Man. I consider my secondary there: Pac-Man. That being said, Geno will also be a distance/projectile/timed hits guy, so he will completely fit my style in Smash. Also Geno is my other childhood hero since I was a kid in 1996, that’s why he is my most wanted right now and I will consider myself done and grateful when he makes in.

Finally, I believe Geno is going to be revealed as a playable character in the next months 100% and he will bring so much good material to Smash: design, music, stage and moveset.

Are you going to main Geno? Are you going to put Geno equal or even superior to your all time mains? I will try Geno to be equal or even greater as my All Times: Toon Link & Mega Man. Though I love Geno, that won’t be an easy quest because I have Toon and Mega Man written in my DNA at this point. But I will do my best everyday to reach that level also with our boy. (I’m not a profesional player, just a very passionate one since Smash 64, playing since ancient times with my friends, and within this Virus, online in Ultimate).

Im so glad that Geno will be a wish to all of us and not only he will have an amazing design and Challenger Pack, he will also bring a fresh and fun moveset to Smash, and a proper one to my skills in Smash.
I think it's a little too early, even as close as Geno feels, to say what his playstyle is going to be. Zoner fits in some instances, but in game he's basically a spellsword. Sakurai could take this guy anywhere, and that potential is super exciting.

I never go into a Smash game looking at a tier list or thinking about whether a character is easy to play - this is a crossover dream game and by God, I'm going to play my favorites... Melee Marth is probably the only exception to this, but he wasn't really my choice as much as he was a suggestion from a guy who totally destroyed me. Looking back, it sure is a pre-teen mentality for one person to tell another that the tool you use is what makes you better, and then you believe it. My neutral was non-existent at the time and Marth honestly just made up for lack of good fundamentals in general. I'm not proud of those days, to be honest.

I picked up Lucas in Brawl because I was a big Mother 3 fan (still am. A lot.) and I was so hyped to see him. I played the Japanese ROM with the English menu patch that Tomato and crew released in the buildup to their finished translation in like... late 2006 or 2007, and had a translated game script to help me through the story. I loved Lucas, he had such neat tech, felt incredible to play, and awakened a very strong zoner mentality in me, and much like Mother 3 changed my outlook on life itself, Lucas changed my outlook on Smash, and honestly it's probably thanks to Lucas that I felt like Brawl was mostly a good direction for Smash and why I've abandoned the outlook of Melee.

I likely never would have picked up Mega Man in 4 if Lucas had just come back in the base game instead of as DLC half a year later. Mega Man for me is strange situation... I love Mega Man games, I grew up with them and Battle Network came into my life in my early teens and really stuck with me the most out of all the various Mega Man series. A lot of my friends asked me around the Brawl days if I wanted Mega Man, to which I would typically reply "he'd just be a Samus clone", and while I knew that wasn't entirely the truth, I just wasn't interested in the idea of him. It was a shame that he didn't get into Brawl for what seemed to be miscommunication between Nintendo and Capcom, but ultimately, I likely would have never played him in Brawl, and especially never would have stuck with Mega Man after the 3DS demo. Granted, he's a unique character, certainly one of the most unique ever. He plays like a Mega Man game, but... is that really good for Smash Bros? I stuck with this guy almost exclusively because he pissed people off and he made me think. Nothing felt like it worked with him, everything was just grime and tenacity, and it felt like they didn't change him at all in Ultimate, like he was just a straight ported Smash 4 character, except his utilt was worse, and Leaf Shield was worse and Metal Blade didn't allow combos properly... They changed the good to bad and for what? A fair that kills sometime? It just wasn't working between me and Mega Man. I went back to Lucas because my heart is with him.

I picked up Richter because he's unique and different, but works. I love experiencing new playstyles and making them work, especially when they're on a character that I love. If it had just been Simon, I wouldn't have cared for the moveset and I would have never looked twice at him, but it's Richter, the one I wanted. I went from thinking his moveset was total garbage and virtually unplayable to having a reliable secondary for the matchups that require a lot more holy water. I'm no stranger to adapting to something wildly different than what I expected or what I wanted to be able to show a character some love.

So all of that said, yes. 100% Geno is my new main. I have hopes that he'll be able to cover a lot of the matchups I struggled in with Lucas, and I'll always have Lucas and even Richter back there to cover the things that Geno has trouble with... But even if those hopes are dashed, that's ok. I've wanted Geno in this game since I got the full Melee roster and said to myself "it's strange that Peach is here but Geno isn't", probably almost 18 years ago. Every year that passes without Geno just adds to literally more than half of my life spent waiting for the opportunity to play one god damned party member from my first RPG in a children's platform fighter. You don't wait 18 years for something just to let some small setback turn you off of it. Not to cast unnecessary shade, but anyone who is a true fan of Banjo, who wished he was in Smash 64, wondered where he was in Melee, etc... If they're not playing Banjo right now as their main, they have no convictions. Why give up on your dream because he doesn't play the way you expected? To quote Flick from New Horizons: "devotion with conditions isn't devotion at all!"

I don't think Jeff, Andre or Imran were specifically teasing a Geno reveal. They were probably just meme'ing around. Natedrake from resetera said he hasn't heard Geno at all so it may be a while until we get him.
Just out of pure curiosity, has Nate ever heard a Smash character? I don't recall this guy being the primary source for Smash news even once.

We've also established in this thread that the gap between Smash DLC reveals and releases is typically two months and we already know "someone" is coming in September because Amiibo theory is currently 7 for 7. This means that next week is basically the last chance for a character announcement because, after that, it's August and this means the next Amiibo wave would be in October or November based on past precedent. After next week, if nothing happens, we're literally waiting until September for a shadowdrop because that's what happened with Byleth and Min-Min because of delays.

Is this idea of the Amiibo purely based on the Polish website?

Oh god oh fug so we have until Friday for an announcement then? Because you know darn well they ain't gonna wait last second 10 hours prior like they did for the mini direct if it's a smash reveal. It just seems weird that they'd announce a direct so soon after a mini. I don't think it's likely but it's all that we got to go off of. I'm expecting the worst, but gonna hope for the best.

Geno seems to be a perfect fit for Cloud and Mario amiibo release. But what about Joker and Ryu?

Does anyone have a compilation of all the supposed "geno teases" that happened? I only recall the one with the image of geno hiding behind that desk.

I meant for the Nintendo/Square amiibos. I believe it was Mario characters + Cloud?
That's the only retailer that's leaked it so far, yeah. I could look around if any place else like Target, GameStop, or Best Buy has oopsie doodled it yet. Something else to keep in mind is that the Polish leak happened in early May and the site still has all of them up and under the same dates despite updating since:

Thanks. I just think it's very safe to assume that different countries get different Amiibo restocks at different times.

To skip straight to the point, I'm asking all of these Amiibo questions because I don't necessarily think that the Amiibo releases are tied to DLC as much as we want to think they are. It makes sense to bundle these mostly meaningless additions with a major patch, but there have been times that they released an Amiibo patch by itself. They were, for a time, correlated, but ultimately, it's a pattern that breaks down. Let's watch:

Super Smash Bros: Ultimate releases 12/07/18. Nintendo's Amiibo site says Wolf released on the 6th, Ridley and Inkling on the 7th.

Piranha Plant (fighter) is released January 29 2019. Piranha Plant (amiibo), K. Rool, and Ice Climbers release Valentines Day.

Joker releases April 17, 2019. Ken and Young Link release April 11, and Daisy releases April 12.

Joker is the first instance we see of a failure to line up a character release with Amiibo release. Smash was patched on April 2, 2019 to add support for these Amiibos because for some reason, the game didn't ship ready to support Amiibos of every character in it. Obviously, Joker wasn't released at this time. Joker also didn't have a Sakurai Presents, in which the figures were advertised.

Hero releases July 30, 2019. Pokemon Trainer, Pichu, and Isabelle all released on July 26. These guys were all advertised in Hero's "Sakurai Presents", and released 4 days before Hero... but there's no mention on the Smash Wiki that support was added for them before the Hero patch. Someone would have to confirm whether or not these Amiibos worked with Smash upon release, but I do not see them having waited 4 days to make them work.

Banjo releases September 4, 2019, Snake, Ivysaur and Squirtle release a whopping 16 days later.

Terry releases November 6, 2019 and Incineroar, Chrom, and Simon release on the 15th of November.

Byleth releases January 28, 2020, and Richter and Dark Samus, the last of the "base game" amiibos, release eleven days (January 17) beforehand. They too got added in via update on January 7, 2020 that did nothing aside from support those final two.

I won't pretend to know what Nintendo has to go through to get the rights to make these Amiibos, or what process they have to go through to start making them, but it's safe to assume they don't put in the order to have them made until the character is shown off, because otherwise they'd be introducing another failure point that could create a leak - in this case, a purchase order for an amiibo of a specific character, so it's safe to say there's a significant time gap between the character's reveal and their amiibo being put into production, which I think would explain, along with the curse of coronavirus, why we're seeing such a late release on Joker and Hero... not to mention that much like the Smash DLC itself, Nintendo clearly plans to stretch out the release of these as long as they can to fill in the "blanks" on their schedule (of which there are many if their lack of news has been any indication). They had a lot of Amiibos to get through in the base game, but this time, they only have 5. If they kept the pace of the base game Amiibos, they'd run out of the Fighter Pass ones in two characters. I'm honestly surprised they didn't release them one at a time, since it goes without saying we will likely be waiting until the tail end of 2022 to see the Fighter Pass 2 characters be turned into Amiibos.

I think that while Sakurai is doing presentations, the only real requirement is that the amiibos are shown off in those before they're released, and it was simply a coincidence that we were seeing releases line up. Min Min released with no amiibo, and if it were so important to release Amiibos with characters, they would have delayed the re-release of Piranha Plant, Isabelle and K. Rool (in the United States)... Unless Min Min was never intended to release with them back in March, which is also a possibility.

Now, you can fairly accuse me of just being overly optimistic, but I don't really think we're waiting for these Amiibos, or any other, to line up with a character.

Well, assumingly... We've talked about it in this thread before but Nintendo is a huge stickler for scheduling. Last year, for example, most of the major presentations were overwhelmingly on Tuesday with a few Thursdays sprinkled throughout the year. It seems like at the beginning of a year, Nintendo chooses a day of the week for presentations and then tries to hard stick to it. This year, Nintendo stuck with Thursday until June when events it specifically hosted shifted to Monday. Min Min's presentation and this last Mini were on Monday so Nintendo's "schedule" will probably be Monday for major announcements for at least another month or two. This said, while it's not guaranteed, Monday should be the expected day of presentations going forward.

I came up with an idea for a Geno trailer that I could see happening in a Mario-centric Direct.

At the end of the direct, the host thanks us for watching before revealing that they have one final surprise to close things out. Fade to black. (There is no transition effect with the Smash Bros. cross forming.)
Fade to a shot of Mario, in a dense forest, wearing a determined frown. We see Bowser and Peach beside him, the former looking wounded and the latter exhausted.
A shot of a dense line of trees; we can't see what lies beyond them. Suddenly, a series of arrows flies out from them.
We see Mario expertly dodging them, and even smacking one aside with his cape, but suddenly an arrow made of blue light hits him in midair and knocks him backward.
We see figures emerging from the line of trees--Pit, Byleth, and all three Links, all with possessed eyes like the puppet fighters in the Hero trailer. They all ready their bows and fire again.
Mario grits his teeth as the arrows fly towards him, but we cut away before they hit or he does anything.
Cut to a house with a red roof. Here, we can tell it is clearly night, where the forest was so dense that it would have been dark even in day.
Cut in to the house, and we pan across the floor, seeing toys of Mario, Peach, and Bowser, as well as an open toy chest.
Hold on the chest as a spark of light descends from above and flies into the chest. Heavenly light starts to shine on the chest.
Pull in closer to the chest, as we see a wooden hand reaching from inside and grabbing the edge of it.
Cut back to the forest, where Mario, Peach, and Bowser are all in visibly worse shape.
We see the archers ready their bows again (with particular emphasis on Byleth's more impressive charging animation) before firing.
We hold on the arrows as they fly through the air, but suddenly a beam of light erupts from the side, obliterating all of them.
We quickly see the Mario characters and the archers jerk their heads towards the source of the beam, which appears to be a silhouetted figure holding out a cannon-shaped arm out as a bright light quickly fades from the tip.
We get a brief shot of Mario, looking shocked, then giving a happy smile at the new arrival.
We cut closer to the figure, which allows us to see him in his full glory. He lowers his arm cannon, and splash text quickly follows: GENO AWAKENS!
(If applicable, gameplay goes here, though I could see this being exclusively a cinematic teaser.)

The archers, angry at the new arrival, leap into the air towards him, seemingly choosing to use their melee weapons instead.
Geno leaps upward slightly and flips, transforming into a cannon and aiming upward at the attackers. He uses Geno Flash, launching a powerful red/orange/yellow explosion that envelops all of them. At the end of the explosion is a burst of white.
The Smash Ultimate logo appears, which quickly transitions into "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate X Super Mario RPG" (with "A New Partner" playing as the Mario RPG logo appears.)

You misunderstood. Amiibo Theory isn't exact. Amiibo Theory is simply that characters always get released in the same month when there are Amiibo waves. The day isn't exact. MattX20 MattX20 showed the other day that the time between character releases and Amiibo waves is about 10-11 days on average. For example, if a character were to come out on September 3rd, it would be reasonable to expect their respective Amiibo wave on or after September 13th/14th. As you showed, this is pretty consistent. For example, Min Min's Amiibo wave was June 12th and she was announced on June 22nd, released June 29th. Basically it lines up to where a character should be expected in a 10-11 timespan within that month. For example, Joker and Hero are coming September 25th, so it's reasonable to expect 7 to release on or before September 15th.

I would 100% main Geno, I would spend hours on end getting good with him if his playstyle wasn't my preferred. I would make myself good with him instead of calling it quits. There's no way in the world i'd hope for him this long and not make him the most enjoyable character.

Do you ever sit and think about how wild and unironically insane this wait for Geno has been?

-Geno was part of the Seven Squares leak in August 2018.

-Geno's part of the Grinch Leak in October 2018.

-NoA ambassador says Geno rumors were common in November 2018.

-Starling picture leak in July 2019. NoA ambassador guesses it may relate to Geno but was never given a solid answer.

-SMRPG music takedowns in July 2019.

-Mii costume leaks in July 2019.

-Geno's Mii costume missing in Hero's pack in July 2019.

-Rumblings of additional content after the Fighter's Pass starting in August 2019.

-Additional content confirmed in September 2019.

-A full second season rumored in December 2019.

-A full second season with 6 characters confirmed in January 2020.

-Covid-19 starts hard-hitting the world in March 2020.

-E3 cancelled March 2020.

-Nintendo announces delays because of Covid-19 in March 2020.

-35th Super Mario anniversary rumors starting March 2020.

-6 is delayed a full two months, was supposed to be an April 2020 release.

-Polish Amiibo leak in May 2020 showing Mario and Square Smash Amiibo rereleasing in September.

-Trials of Mana spirit event in May 2020.

-No E3 presentation in June 2020.

-Octopath Traveler spirit event in July 2020.

-July presentation delayed not once but TWICE and split up into multiple parts without anyone being told.

-Geno's Mii costume still missing as of July 2020.

-SMRPG still missing on the NSO, making it one of literally two notable first party franchise SNES games still missing as of July 2020.

-Square teases major announcements coming in July and August. Barely has announced anything in July so far.

-Jeff Grubb, Andre Seger, and Imran Khan all teasing an eventual Geno reveal in July 2020.

-Super Mario 35th anniversary is in roughly 8 weeks. Not a single announcement has been made yet.

-Miserably strong evidence at this point that Geno really is pack 7 and character 77.

-Nintendo releases yet another statement in late July 2020 that there will likely be more delays .

Has God abandoned us or does he even exist? Is this all part of some divine plan? Retribution? Salvation? Would we be able to tell the difference at this point? If you whittle down a man's soul into nothing, is the cold wind that blows through his husk of a broken body music to God's ears? Like Geno, are we just forgotten scarecrows in an ever expansive field, exposed to the elements and the crows that peck and scratch until we are reduced to tatters? Does God smile or is our total destruction not enough? Our sins are too great and, somehow, we always knew this. Hell isn't a place, dear friends, it is unfulfilled anticipation and expectations and we are its ambassadors. God help us, Genobros, but he will not... He will not...

"When his life was ruined, his family killed, his farm destroyed, Job knelt down on the ground and yelled up to the heavens, "Why god? Why me?" and the thundering voice of God answered, There's just something about you that pisses me off." -Stephen King

Since I already have a main, plus a few secondaries I like playing, I don't think Geno's a character I'd main.

Happy 16th Birthday to Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door!

It's finally old enough to drink! :ultpacman:

Funnily enough, this is also the one year anniversary of me joining Smashboards! It's funny, I never thought I'd really have much to talk about, but +1800 posts later and... well, I guess I did.

I've said it before, but there was a time a long time ago that there were entire websites dedicated to tracking amiibo releases and re-releases, and they seem to have all dried up. This twitter account is virtually the best I can find, and even then, they're not entirely accurate, because I have the messages from a friend of mine still about K. Rool and Piranha Plant being at Target in April, yet they don't seem to have any info on that - but they do have info on the fact that Amiibos have been in and out of stock at places like Amazon.

Basically all I'm saying is that there was a pattern for FP1 and Amiibo releases, but so far there's no reason to assume any such pattern for FP2, and I can assert it with confidence because I saw a wave of Amiibos release with no fighter with my own two eyes, and these same three figures, K. Rool, Isabelle and Piranha Plant, have kept being released over the past three months at this point. Are these the same Amiibos you're saying released around Min Min?

I give most characters a shot, bonus points if they’re someone I like aesthetically. I would main Banjo and Kazooie whether I liked their moveset or not, with one exception. I won’t main characters that have easily gimped offstage recoveries. It’s too much of a bummer to get gimped at 40 or something (I’m looking at you Little Mac, hah). I like characters with aerial spikes but as Banjo and Tink don’t have safe spikes (suicide down airs, the both of them!), it’s not a deal breaker.

I also like characters with colorful movesets, figuratively and literally. If Geno incorporates any rainbow / star effects into his moves, that’d be neat. Guess we’ll see what kind of kit he has if / when he makes it!

They did though:

The release date of those three was changed from April 17th to June 12th.

What I'm telling you here is that they released in April, and if my one horse town got them in April, there's virtually no way everywhere else didn't, as well. If there was an intention to release Min Min with these three amiibos, the opportunity was missed the first time, and it's comical to think that they re-re-released the Amiibos just to match up with this pattern. I think the more likely explanation here is that they didn't sell them back in April when the majority of the country was literally closed down and wanted people to know they're back in stock now that things are more open.

I'm genuinely curious. How would you all react if Mallow got included over Geno? Personally, I would be ecstatic because Nintendo would still finally acknowledge SMRPG, but at the same time, I would be so confused lol

Pretty much the same I'd react to any Mario character being added other than Geno: a brief moment of "Aw man, it's not Geno" before quickly snapping to "HOLY **** YES I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY ADDED [character]!"

Would be confused but I'd really like it still, I like Mallow too and he's got pretty nice moves. I just prefer Geno.

This is one of those possibilities that is barely worth acknowledging considering it just wouldn't ever happen. Honestly? I'd be pissed. He knows Geno specifically is the one people want and adding Mallow instead would just be insulting. There would be no way to justify that. I like Mallow a lot, but in this context it'd be one of the biggest **** moves of all time.

It'd be funny at first, then I'd be a bit bummed for all of the people that have been rallying Geno for so long. Mallow would be fun I'm sure, but if we saw Geno in the background of Mallow's stage just chillin' like the cameo characters do, it'd hurt, haha.

I answered the same question when asked by a guy at my local back before Byleth was announced and I'm sticking with the answer:

I will eat my Ultimate cartridge and never look back.

This right here shows that even Nintendo knows they hardly have anything this year. At this point, it feels like Nintendo is making excuses to tweet about something.

I mean... This might be sacrilege to say here but I’d honestly be just as happy. I love Geno and Mallow, choosing one or the other is like choosing a favorite child. The only request I have with Geno’s moveset if he gets added to Smash is that Mallow is included in some form.

I think Geno is still the better choice for Smash just because his moveset compliments it better, but I dunno I would still be pretty happy if Mallow got in too I guess?
