It does tend to be the same people.

And the kind of generalization that is actively harming the fanbase. And the type of generalization that can even be encouraged.

You see anyone calling us a cult? I'd report that straight away. If I did that to the Sora fanbase, or Steve fanbase, people would be up in arms. And like I said, it's the same people.

Make it clear that this is *not* okay.
Quite a shame. As one of the participants in my PM said, some people don't even bother to learn more about others like us and Fatman and just go straight to generalizing and making assumptions. Man, I hate how the human mind works. Such a shame on all accounts, isn't it?

This is why I call them disgusting people. They attack people like Fatman and PapaGenos constantly.

I know what you mean. They are no better than those two, the rest of us and anyone else. In fact, how can they even be the better people if they act like this towards anyone that they disagree with or don't like?

It'd be one thing if PapaGenos or Fatman were causing trouble or something, but in my mind, speculation and theorycrafting is part of the fun and I hardly see how or why it would actually be upsetting to people. No one makes those people watch PapaGenos' videos and no one makes them come to the Geno board here. *shrug*

(I will say though, I will be happy when all of the DLC is done and over with so this sort of hostility and whatnot dies down a bit. Speculation can be fun, but I'll be happy to play the complete and finished product, regardless of who the remaining DLC includes.)

What are yall doing in 11 days???
I had taken a week off of work next week so the 20th will be the day I go back to work. (Hopefully to watch a Direct!) If by chance Geno is announced that day, while I won't burst into happy tears in the office like I literally did with Banjo's reveal (imagine a 30 year old guy just crying watching a presentation in a public office, hah), I will be incredibly happy for everyone here. The 20th seems so far away at this point. This speculation game is rough, man.

What happen between TOK and Legacy Xp, can i get context?
In Legacy XP who recently got shut down, Geno was playable (which people speculate could be an argument for him in Smash)
But what if they are taking him down for something else (see talk about Origami King DLC)

Forgive me if I'm missing something, which is entirely possible, but where did it come up that Origami King is even going to have DLC? Why the jump to that? Just because it's a Mario series game? I'm not saying I wouldn't believe it, it's just a strange and sudden jump for me on a game that hasn't even come out yet.

Hopefully watching a new Direct and/or presentation. If not that... I dunno, probably re-watching Smash trailers?

If they plan on bringing Geno into the Paper Mario series as his big return, now's not exactly the best time, considering how The Origami King's turning out...

Geno appearing in Origami King is literally a never-ever. They won't listen to the "you can skip battles" problem, no way they're going to acknowledge Geno or any of the older RPGs in that game.

CONFOUND THOSE GENO BOYS! OH HOW I HATE THEM! I HATE POP (Papagenos), I HATE FAT (FMOI), AND I HATE JEREMY (Terminal Montage)! THEY DRIVE ME TO DRINK!
So happy I’m not the only one who immediately thought of Dan Backslide.

Though I fear I may drink like him if Geno is neither definitively confirmed nor disconfirmed this year

IT was just a hypotechnical comment when someone mentioned earlier

"PM Geno + Mallow DLC lookin more and more likely!" in the thread

That was me just speculating—it has no basis in reality whatsoever. I just thought it’d be one of the ways Nintendo could reveal that they bought all the assets for SMRPG—including Geno and Mallow.

Originally, I was speculating that they could potentially join the roster in the main game—but since this alleged Direct is happening after the game releases, announcing characters that people already know are already in the game would be silly.

The only thing that the possibility of bonus characters makes me sad about is that, if 90 is the absolutely maximum that can be added period, and not even Sakurai and the team can work around it on a technical sense to increase that number, there’s more than 4 characters I’d like to see make it in haha.

Waluigi, Toad, Impa, Bandana Dee, Elma, Dixie, Lolo, Sora, Skull Kid, Isaac

Even just condensing it down - Toad/Dixie/Elma/Bandana Dee/Skull Kid, which is still more than 4.

Just a random thought. I’m glad that Geno is not someone that would fall into this bonus character grey area. He’s earned his spot in FP2 proper, and so if he’s gonna happen, he’s gonna happen there and not be a “leftover extra”. But on the flip side, lots of character choices still left to pick from for the next smash game, so hopefully we get an amazing group of newcomers next time, whenever that may be

Truly it does feel like the stars (planets; WoL top-left corner) have aligned in favor of the star messenger. From Sakurai's own desire of having wanted to include him as a fighter since Brawl, to the undying support fans have demonstrated throughout the years, to Nintendo acknowledging the franchise via an official tweet, to the absence of his Mii Costume in Ultimate. I'd dare say that the desire of seeing Geno make it into Smash reaches far out from just the genuine fans. It wouldn't surprise me that even other third parties unrelated to the franchise also cheer for his inclusion simply because of what Geno represents.
  • A nod to a classic tale of the doll that wished to be a real boy (Pinocchio)
  • An envoy who serves a "higher authority" (divinity)
  • A messenger from the stars who fought to restore the granting of wishes (dreams can come true)
  • Its vessel (the Geno doll) is a toy within a toy (video game), which fits perfectly with the Super Smash Bros. canon lore (toys that engage in epic battles in the imaginary world, hoping to one day reach the real world)
With the prestige the Super Smash Bros. IP has gained throughout the years to the point that some third parties push for their mascot or most popular IPs MCs in hopes to get them in the roster, the inclusion of Geno shouldn't pose as hard a task as it may have been to acquire the licenses of Cloud and the DQ Heroes this time around. Putting aside assumptions of Square Enix perhaps being greedy, stingy or whatever, I for one believe that that is not the case; not with Geno. SMRPG not having had a proper sequel in years (yet having rereleases in the Wii era, and with the SNES Classic) does not equate to it being a franchise Square Enix wouldn't have interest in working with. As it's been demonstrated before through new additions to the Smash roster across its entries, some franchises have seen an increase in public interest with the inclusion of main characters of their respective series (Fire Emblem with Marth & Roy back in Melee as an example). Geno's inclusion in Smash wouldn't only be cathartic to fans, but it would also draw attention to the character, the game it appeared in, and seeing all that buzz could serve as an incentive for Square Enix to collaborate with Nintendo on a new entry in the SMRPG line. The first viable step would most likely be a remake. SMRPG having been released so many years ago, a refreshed version of it would bring back old fans to the franchise, and cater to newer audiences. From there a sequel could follow depending on the former's success.

Back to the main point tho, I feel Geno's in. I've said it before, but this time reflecting on the things that have been mentioned here on the threads, on YouTube videos, etc., it's hard to believe that it would all just amount to his Mii Costume returning. Geno will be coming as a full-fledged fighter. It's time.

Well it seems we finally have our direct date, was really starting to worry we were going to get nintendo'd but a 1.5 month delay is fine. Luckily I'm not working that Monday morning so I'll be able to catch it live hopefully. Crazy to think we might finally be at the end of this massive journey, or that we ever actually had a chance to begin with. I hope we can cross 3000 in the next 11 days for that final flex.

Working from home, watching a movie or some episodes of TV show, and playing video games, most likely. If there's a Direct, I'm definitely going to watch it, but I'm not sure what kind of track record the one person claiming that it will happen has. (as far as I know, they got the date of one previous Direct right, but between various people speculating, I'm sure that the release date for every single Direct has been predicted by someone given that someone seems to have claimed that there's a Direct on any given weekday)

If Geno’s coming, I think there’s a chance that some leaker will give hints or say that he’s in like Shinobi to Banjo. Idk about Vergeben he seems pretty busy.

PREACH! I posted my predictions in the newcomer thread to see what they had to think and as soon as I mentioned Geno in my predictions, EVERYONE started going at me saying that this stuff in Geno's favor means nothing and that he will never be in Smash. I just don't get why Tracer supporters are allowed to stretch by thinking an Overwatch Switch case meant something for Tracer being in Smash, or how Dante supporters were allowed to stretch by thinking several DMC announcements meant for sure that Dante is Fighter #5, but as soon as us Geno supporters make a stretching theory, it somehow isn't okay? I don't understand what the Smash community has against us. We haven't done anything to them to deserve getting treated this way. People also acted like this to Ridley supporters, K. Rool supporters and Banjo supporters and yet, they were the ones that came out victoriously. People wonder why this along with the Ridley, K. Rool and Banjo threads are as big as they are and that's because people make fun of us everywhere else on the website so this is like our "safe space", where Geno supporters can come together and speculate about Smash without some jerk saying our character will never happen.

I would just ignore them all together. I have learned that if the Smash community says a character will never happen, 10 times out of 10 that character will most likely happen.
We Dragonborn fans can relate, we'll get shot down pretty much anywhere we voice our support.

For DMC in particular, they did have a coincidence regarding a quote from the creator (Saying that he wants to see the DMC games on Nintendo systems before seeing Dante in Smash and then the ports happening conveniently a few months later), but the point of hypocrisy with them and the other fanbases still stands. I just don't get how they're conveniently ignoring so much built up evidence. But it was their downfall with Banjo and it'll be their downfall with Geno as well.

I assume you'll be yelling from the rooftops since there's a good chance a certain star-possessed puppet could be revealed then.:shades:

I can already hear the screams from both the Geno thread and the Geno haters. The dichotomy of man... what a symphony.

I kind of doubt it this year. Waaaaaaaaay too many people hinted at Banjo last year and apparently Nintendo was pretty annoyed about it, on top of Hero leaking not once but THREE times in an 11 month span. Nintendo also very recently heavily downsized the ambassador program do they're taking leaks much, much more seriously this year.

Another thing I want to say about us, generally speaking, we have a lot of evidence for Geno on our side. A lot of other threads for other characters don't have that, and the ones other character threads act differently from how we do. That said, some even whine more for and about their character than we seem to do. I don't think we have been whining about Geno that much, especially lately, and I don't think, as I have seen from the words of some I spoke to, that we will whine so badly like others if Geno does not get in.

Yeah, hero and Banjo were the character who get leaked more times, soooo far:
-The microsoft source who talk with papagenos
-Vergeben saying Erdrick is in and Banjo has a 99% chance
-Shinobi602
-The kirby worked who upload a kirby photo alongside the Erdrick Shield
-The codename Brave
- Tanmsut
-The merchandise leaked of Banjo
-Microsoft asking people watch the Direct, etc

Probably sneaking off somewhere to watch the Direct on my phone. That French Otter Guy™ more or less confirmed that the presentation was going to be a the Spring Mario presentation and the E3 presentation combined so I don't even know what the Nintendo fanbase will do with itself if a good number of the long standing major rumors come true. Because of this, we could very well be looking at an hour long presentation and, while hype responsibly are definitely words of wisdom, it's going to be reeeeeeeally hard if that timestamp winds up being 40 minutes or more.

July 20th is ironically the first day that I have to be back at the office instead of working from home. We’re supposed to be out in the middle of Lake Ontario. It’s going to be TORTURE for me to have to wait until I get back to shore to watch it.

Still love/hate how we're called the leap in logic fanbase from the same group that genuinely believed an Overwatch bag confirmed Tracer and an obviously fake 4chan leak confirmed KOS-MOS

Wait, who believed in that foolish thing again?
I'll admit, there was a bit more divisiveness with the whole Overwatch bag fiasco especially as time went on and some more level heads realized the absurdity of it all. With the KOS-MOS stuff though, it was a lot harder to find people who were actually doubtful of the 4chan Leak (which the main claim to fame was getting the release date for KH Remind wrong).

I still think vergeben probably knows who the next character is but won’t say anything due to the amount off backlash he gets.

Nintendo made it very clear nobody knew about Byleth and yet his sources told him Byleth was in and he leaked him about an hour before the presentation and provided proof So he’s probably guaranteed to know who it is

I'll say this too: No one genuinely spends this much time and energy bellyaching over something they're not afraid is gonna happen. If they really thought Geno had little to no shot, they probably just wouldn't talk about him much even if they hated the idea of him in Smash. For example, I personally hate the idea of Goku in Smash for obvious reasons, but I'm confident he isn't happening so I don't complain about him to high heaven.
The truth is, these people are trying to convince no one but themselves. They see Geno's evidence and they've seen how solid it is, but they've spent pretty much a year at this point trying to convince themselves that it means nothing because in reality, it actually is pretty substantial. Back in the first half of 2019, Geno was dead in the water. A DQ character was either highly likely or confirmed and his costume was almost a guarantee to come back. And guess what? Despite Geno's chances actually looking grim at the time, the hate mob that's currently surrounding him seemed almost non-existent. That's because they weren't worried, Geno had little evidence back then so they didn't have to try and justify their viewpoints by being jerks. Now that Geno has evidence though, the hate mob is back with a vengeance. They're not bashing Geno because they think he's unlikely, they're bashing Geno because they're afraid they may actually lose the same damn fight for the 4th time in a row.
