Do you guys think #7 and #8 are gonna be a double reveal like Hero and Banjo?
Given Nintendo's obsession with making us wait as of late...no I don't. I can't really blame Nintendo too much as I'm sure sticking to release dates might not be possible due to the worldwide craziness so it is smarter for them to reveal things closer to release in that aspect. I could certainly be wrong tho. Just my opinion.

That's really a good question... It's all but confirmed now that 7 and 8 were supposed to be our E3 reveals so does that mean they'll be revealed together or will 8 be our September reveal. Somethings to consider:

-Every Direct since the Spring 2018 Direct has had a Smash announcement of some kind.

-Most have had a least one character announcement but not all.

-The Spring Directs in both 2019 and 2020 did not have true announcements. 2019's was Joker was coming in April and 2020's was that ARMS was coming in June.

-They could theoretically announce 7 and 8 together but the Smash announcement for the Fall Direct is simply the announcement of presentation/release for 7 and/or 8.

-This means 9 likely wouldn't be announced until November/December but 8 could release as early as October.

I've speculated for a while that 8 would be the September reveal, so not much has changed on that point. Still, FP7 should be revealed before too long I would hope

I don't think 7 and 8 are going to be announced anywhere near each other. I think E3 would have been Min Min and 7, and then we'd wait until September/fall if not later for 8.

This is how I feel as well. It would be incredible to see 7 and 8 reveal around the same time ESPECIALLY if its Geno AND Waluigi. I am banking on 7 being revealed alone then 8 is down the line.

The only thing that still seems weird is Fighter's Pass 2 has one more fighter than the first. I'd figure it would be another pass with the same number of fighters as FP1. Sooo...who knows?

Would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath. Whether it was or wasn't due to Covid, there was a delay on their end, so I'm not expecting them to reveal a third of Vol. 2 in a single presentation. I think the earliest we could be getting the next character reveal is early July, but even then I'm skeptical they'd do that. I feel that we're likely going to have to wait until September for the next fighter to be revealed.

So, you know how both the E3 presentation and the May Mario presentation were pushed back? I decided to look into things a little and, sure enough, the tinfoil wrote itself:

-Original ARMS Amiibo wave: Friday April 17th, second full week in April.

-Original Min-Min release according to our Amiibo to Character release analysis: Tuesday April 28th, final week of April.

-New ARMS Amiibo wave: Friday June 12th, second full week in June.

-Min-Min release: Monday June 29th, final week in June.

-Paper Mario: the Origami King trailer: Thursday May 14th, second full week in May.

-Original E3 date: Tuesday June 9th, second week of June.

So... Let's check the calendar.

The second Tuesday in July is July 7th, second week of July.

The second full week in July has the 14th on a Tuesday the second full week. The Origami King is releasing that week.

Um...

Well, at least the upside is that I'm pretty sure we'll know who we're getting if they announce that the next character is from Super Mario RPG. I could see it now....

Nintendo: "Hey Smash fans! We're pleased to announce that the next fighter is coming from SMRPG!!"

Fans: "OMG! IT'S GENO!!!! FINALLY!!! AFTER ALL THESE YEARS!!"

Two months later......(out plops Mallow)

Fans: "................"

Seriously, though could you imagine the level of troll-factor if Sakurai tried to fake us out with Mallow like they did with the Krool/Banjo reveal? You see the silhouette of Geno (fans crying with joy), then Mallow appears with a laugh (jaws drop), then Geno drops in beside him to take the spot light for real. So many emotions.

At that point, I would want both Geno and Mallow playable

AFAIK that person isn't really super reliable. They've said something around the start of June stating that we'd get a big announcement that week, and the biggest thing we got was Nintendo posting a Origami King picture. Then the next week they said that we'll get another big announcement, and we got a Origami King trailer; they said that Origami King wasn't the announcement (that was the 6/12 leak).

The biggest thing they have to their credit is the fact that they leaked the date for the "March leak", even though that was common knowledge amongst insiders. She also claimed we'd get BOTW 2 and Metroid trailers in the March direct. I think another insider (NateDrake?) came out and said that she's not really the kind of person you should be listening to for super accurate leaks.

Currently her track record is about as accurate as a 4chan text leak (which is to say dodgy at best), and for all we know those dates could have been lucky guesses. That said, even if the 7/7 date is right; unless it's a full blown Nintendo Direct (which I doubt) I can't see the announcement being for Smash. Insiders have already stated that a direct that soon is pretty unlikely, and I doubt Nintendo would do another reveal a week after Min Min becomes playable. During these times, their best bet is to actually space out announcements/content especially those relating to something like Smash (if it were before COVID then 6 and 7 would have definitely been shown at E3). If it is an accurate date, it's probably unrelated to Smash; and either another Origami King Trailer or something else entirely.

With the Smash fanbase just getting Min-Min after several months of waiting, I doubt that Nintendo is in a huge rush to appease the fanbase even more. I can't see us getting anything (Smash related) until towards the very end of July or much more likely August.

I would be extraordinarily confused if we got Mallow but I wouldn't be against it at all, I love the little tadpole.

But I would still be extraordinarily confused.

I thought Mallow was a black mage and Geno was the red mage since Geno could be used for either built for physical or magic.
While Red Mage's in final fantasy can use physical attacks, they're generally more well known for combining offensive magics and healing/support magic, Black Mages are purely offensive powerhouses while White Mages focus entirely on support with one good offensive spell in Holy.

Red Mages also have the best hat.

I do hope Mallow gets some sort of expanded upon role beyond spirit as a result of DLC, but I would rather Geno be the character.

You guys have any idea of what role Mallow could fulfill with Geno as a playable character? The only ideas I have is background cameo or appearing in Geno's FS.

Now that I think of it, NateDrake also said the Mario 3D Collection was likely going to be announced close to or after Paper Mario TOK’s release, and we also have that HotGirls person with the potential 7/7 and 7/14 announcement dates. If Fighter #77 is a Mario character, maybe July will really be the Mario news blowout?
But wait, if that's true along with Papa Genos' info that FP7 will be a 3rd party, then what Mario character could also be simultaneously 3rd party...

I feel like writing a long tirade about what a Red Mage even is to explain it and the history of the FF class, but i'm lazy and pretty sure no one wants to hear it.

'Red Mages are Disc 1 Nukes, destroying difficulty early game and freeing up class options since you don't need a specialist White Mage or Black Mage on the team. Then they become laughably bad after they stop learning spells past the -ra levels and people only stick with them in order to level max the job to unlock dualcast.'

At least, based on FFV.

Well yeah, that's them in FFV and a good description of the basic concept of the Class. They get worse Late Game Magic in return they can do a bit of everything. This goes backs to the D&D roots of FF1, where the Red Mage was based off the Bard, letting them use offensive magic, heal, and wear medium armor and weapons. Black Mages meanwhile are the best offensive Mages in general outside of Perhaps Summoners in later ones, They are Offensive powerhouses in return for not being tanky or offering a lot of support.

Mallow fills the role of a Red Mage, giving you early offensive and healing magics when your party is still quite small and you need both while not compromising on other aspects, falling off later as Peach and Geno arrive and are more specialized then the others, having better Healing and Offensive capabilities.

Red Mages were invaluable in the original FFI where magic was like gold and they had an option to physical attack, until the other mages.

I always attributed Mallow as the black mage, but he does show signs of red mage too. He gets a Cure and Scan spell from white mages and Thunder, Blizzard and Meteor from black mages.

Peach is straight up White Mage, getting healing, raise, status effect spells and ending with her only attack spell. similar to White Mages and Holy.

I would say Geno is a Ninja: good attacks, great speed, defense as strong as a bubble so he and the floor get to know each other quickly and spells unique to him, like Edge.

Guess Ninja ould probably be the best class if we were apply traditional roles to him. Still think Red Mage fits for Mallow though, mostly because he fills a similar Niche early game as other red mages, but you could say he transitions into a black mage as it goes on.

That's interesting to know. Assuming CURE means support spell in any way, doesn't that technically make moves like Geno Boost a Cure type spell though?

That way you are looking at

I’m sorry but you don’t speak for everyone when you say “the fanbase is appeased”. They ended a pass I paid for with Byleth and I was not pleased by that. They are now beginning the new pass with another character I find underwhelming so they don’t have my FP2 money yet and I am not appeased.

However!
If they reveal Geno
the 77th fighter
from the 7th DLC pack
from the game
Super Mario RPG Legend of the 7 Stars
On 7/7/2020

My money will fly forth from my wallet
And be given to Nintendo

Best case scenario, though highly unlikely, would be if we got him as a new surprise AT. Otherwise, I could see him as part of Geno's final smash or maybe a victory screen. (and as a costume, of course)

Thats fine if you aren't personally appeased, but I'm just drawing a conclusion about the larger fanbase not individual cases.

Min Min was met with a positive overall reception, even if it wasn't really huge or anything. Most of the fanbase is pleased by having Min Min be the ARMS rep. And while many people are probably looking forward to the next reveal, I doubt that they're thinking "we haven't had Smash news in forever".

Nintendo aren't going to reveal 7 quickly just to appease the part of the fanbase that were disappointed by Min Min, they didn't do that with Byleth and that was much worse then Min Min.

Much like you didn't want Min Min, a ton of people don't want Geno. If 7 is really Geno, Nintendo isn't going to deviate from plans to rush 8's reveal because "some people out there don't like Geno".

While you definitely can choose to not spend money on the fighters pass. You have to understand that the Fighters pass won't make literally everyone happy, they aren't going to rush reveals to make sure they get as much money as possible. Especially when Smash is such a good marketing tool for Nintendo in general.

Min Min's basically did.

https://smashboards.com/threads/geno-♥♪-return-of-the-starsend-savior.446378/page-2460#post-23846826

It very heavily implied 6 would be first party and that theory was perfectly bullseyed. I don't know about the others because I don't know what characters restocked with specific waves.
But is it a consistent pattern? Like did Sonic/Bayo get restocked when Joker came out or did Cloud get restocked with Hero's original release, what about Fire Emblem characters with Byleth? I feel like just equating a first party Smash Amiibo to a Smash character is the wrong way of looking at things, especially when the majority of the cast is still first party so the chances of a 1st party amiibo being restocked is still far higher than a 3rd party amiibo.

Likewise, the reasoning for Cloud and Hero being restocked together in September could be entirely separate from a new Smash character. Perhaps, Nintendo/Square-Enix just saw it as a convenience since Hero is getting his first release, they may as well have reprinted Cloud along with him. So far there isn't really a large enough sample size to make a good conclusion behind this, this is all within the realm of pretty reasonable coincidence and doesn't really have to hint at Geno in Smash at all.

But while I don't personally believe in this, hopefully it's true because it does mean good things for Geno in a certain context.

Yup, but usually implies different levels of healing spells (Cure, Cura, Curaga, Curaja). Healing is the most vanilla of support abilities, unlike say Geno's support skills that are completely combat focus.

I really cannot overstate how great it feels that the spirit curse was broken by a character who won a literal popularity contest. We have this in the bag

I must ask while I am here. Does anyone else think the fact that Nintendo didn't go for Spring Man as the ARMS rep, the literal posterboy of the franchise, hurts the chances of seeing assist trophy upgrades? Personally, I am 50\50 on that. On one hand, Sakurai did end up going for someone who wasn't an assist trophy, but at the same time, he did show a trailer of Spring Man trying to get an invitation and the fact that he went with Min Min is simply because Sakurai and the ARMS director wanted her, so maybe they do think assist tophies are elligible.

What are your guy's thoughts on this?
