This isn't meant to bash Sora fans, but I don't quite see what he's got going for him late in the game. Of course Smash can't include Disney characters, but Disney is such an integral part of Kingdom Hearts. If you just bring Sora and no Disney, it'll feel like half of him is missing. That is an issue I can see.

Also, I'm not sure how much trouble it would be for Nintendo and Disney to cooperate. But I will assume that it probably won't be easy. And I'm not really sure if Nintendo or Sakurai would want to go through all of that trouble to include another anime swordsman sword wielding fighter.

Yes, Sora is a great character, but there are legal boundaries and territories that will certainly be troubling for Nintendo to navigate. Implementing Sora without any Disney properties potentially presents another issues. There are easier Squeenix characters to snag, like Geno and Slime.
I'm not even really a Sora fan, I was just positing a lighthearted hypothetical. Even if it didn't read this way, I meant it as more of a "this won't happen by could you imagine if it did?".

No I understand, that post was not addressed towards you. I saw your post, and that made me think about something I've wanted to get out there.

What do you mean?
They technically didn't have permission/rights over Geno but put him in the game.

Something tells me Nintendo just didn't prioritize it.

I've been playing Mario RPG again these past few days. I'm in Smithy's factory atm. Geno's Star Gun is so cool.
I'm facing Exor; I unfortunately run Bowser and Peach, so Geno doesn't get screen time.

Literally watching a video on YouTube of all his moves and the fact they put someone like Isabelle in over him makes me want to burn my copy of Ultimate.

Yeah but could you imagine a Final Smash where Mickey, Donald, and Goofy show up to aid Sora similarly to Ness and Shulk's Final Smashes?
His Final Smash would just be one of his forms or something; I'd be surprised if they even allowed Mickey's head on the keychain.

Geno Alliance sure is a great, positive place. I love it.

Was pondering and realized even if we dont get dialogue voice, we still will likely get a voice for geno for grunts/hurt. I cant even fathom the direction, nor do i want to hope for a certain thing because i just want to fully accept the version they give us.

However I do hope many of his attacks are timed attacks, and down special better be Geno Boost. Could see Geno Whirl on Side b and working like duck hunts honestly. What would his Up b though?

Geno Flash maybe? I think I've seen a Brawl Mod of that...
Also, I imagine Geno having an old-sounding, yet friendly voice. Idk why it came into my head, but have you ever seen the famous old commercial for Tootsie Pops? I imagine him sounding like Mr. Owl, for some reason. Don't ask me why. :dizzy:

I feel like Geno would sound young with a hint of a British accent and tons of confidence.
basically a British chad.
i dunno maybe.

Geno's voice, huh? Hmm. I have not given it that much thought, honestly. Maybe semi-serious conflictive and easy-going voice if we go by his characterization in Mario RPG?

:bowser:.

I don't really want to leave it to Smash to come up with voices for characters (especially if Nintendo wants to reuse the character and is stuck with whatever voice is decided on), but I guess something similar to Marth's voice in the World of Light trailer, but not as wimpy, or maybe Buzz Lightyear's efforting sounds in Toy Story 2 on the PSX, lol.

I've never really talked about the moveset, but I think Geno Beam should be implemented in the same way as ROB's beam, Blast could be a cool FS (but could also be a down-B with the star spirits being his FS).... there's literally unlimited potential for the character; it's just how you want to implement the moves.

At this point it'd be kind of funny to see the super crown appear as a power up in another Mario 2D platformer, just so the game could have a long running joke about practically every character putting on the crown and finding out what happens. Kind of like the cat suit enemies in Mario 3D World.

I wouldn't say he has "unlimited" moveset potential, rather, he has JUST the right amount, which I think works in his favor tremendously.

think about it.
before K. Rool was revealed, everyone had this idea that he would have his crown toss, his blunderbuss, and his propeller recovery (the only move we didn't see coming was his counter). his boxing gloves were even thought to be pretty compelling, and most thought he would be great at grabs. and then august comes around. BOOM! ITS K.ROOL! and its JUST the way we all imagined him to be! the crown!, the blunderbuss! the propeller! the boxing gloves! his BELLY! GOOD LORD HIS BELLY! and did you see the range on that pivot grab?!
it would have been really hard to disappoint those fans. like seriously. that's where I think Geno benefits from this.

when I think of Geno, I get the idea that Geno Beam is a charged neutral B, Geno whirl is a Side B, and weather or not Boost and Blast are up/down B is up to personal preference (for me, geno boost is UP B). and of course theres Geno Flash for his final smash. all the moves that make Geno Geno are right there. he would also make use of pellets and the like for his regualar moves along with some melee options, maybe rotating his body around for a cool multi-hit down smash, or a Rocket propelled fist for a forward smash ect ect.
does any of that sound familiar? it should. im willing to bet most of you imagine something like that day after day. and I think that's great. not only does sakurai have the moveset already in front of him, he just has to make it look really cool. its already the moveset we kinda expect, the moveset many of us want. easy-peasy.

just thought i'd put this out there!

It's kinda funny seeing this thread go back to previous topics like moveset and voice. I remember these conversations when we were under 100 pages. But i agree, most of us have a pretty good idea on how Geno would be implemented in the game, with probably the most variance coming from his normals if anything. For a different direction I was thinking about potential taunts for Geno, like up would be his nod, down his laugh, and side be him pulling a random SMRPG item sprite from his hat as a cool easter egg.

Yeah despite everything, the focus is on Geno's Moveset and potential taunts and such which is great!

Looking forward too see how if he gets in that plays out !

Not to mention, I previously verified my source with Fatmanonice and a few others, and he has also heard Geno's name going around within NoA. There isn't a single credible smash leaker who hasn't mentioned him being in.
If you say so. Although I'd rather not say anymore and cause another uproar like I did in the Shantae thread.

If Hitagi hasn't heard about Geno we are facing the impossible here... Unless Verge explicit says that he heard.

A reminder to everyone; based on verge’s statements a long time ago about how square handles leaks, keep in mind we likely won’t know anything until Nintendo or square wants us to. Just wait things out, that’s all we can do atm.

Also, its kinda in legal hell from what I recall.
Yep, unfortunately. Dragon Quest and the Chrono series are legal nightmares. The games were published by Square Enix but Armor Project owns the rights to them and, even more convoluted, the composer of those games has all the music copyrighted separately. For Nintendo to make a deal, they'd have to effectively negotiate it with all three parties.

I am unfamiliar with when Senjou backpedaled. If you could provide the source of when he has backpedaled, that would be terrific.
I'm on mobile so you'll have to wait on links. But verge himself pointed it out.

Senjou's first sash posts says they know Katalina is in. Then a week later they said "Well, talks for Katalina could've fell through." And then just days ago they claim they "haven't kept up with Katalina."
For me, saying a character is in for sure, and then sayjng "well, maaaaaybe" is a clear backpeddle.

When did Vergeben say that?
- "... thats not to say Geno isn't one of the names I've heard." on gamefaqs.
- "3 of the names are recurring and make sense."
- Me hearing Geno from NoA, a place Verge no doubt has sources tied to.

It seems really obvious. Especially with the first point, he has already implied it himself. We already know how he replies when he hasnt heard of a character being in.

I think the other thing to point out when reading the Reddit thread is no one has asked if Hitagi could name at least 3 DQ names he has been hearing. If he lines up with Vergeben, he should at least know of 3 to 7 different names floating around instead of just a single franchise. Hearing 7 different Dragon Quest characters makes more sense than assuming all the characters in the running are Dragon Quest.

>Says fans will be satisfied with the DLC.
>Proceeds to disconfirm or doubt literally every major remaining character fanbase.

Uh... This DLC would pretty much be the total opposite of Smash 4's if true. Three of the most wanted cut characters, a gaming icon, an ad character that wasn't really wanted but still cool, and two popular characters that most thought were literally impossible vs 5 characters with virtually non-existent Smash fanbases and no Ballot choices. Hoo boy... It's just disappointing enough to be probable.

Just wait for senjou to do what they did with Katalina and granblue

Katalina also flies in the face of Sakurai's philosophy of picking characters because:

1. It's a Japanese exclusive which Sakurai has said for 17 years that he tries to avoid.

2. It's from a series with a questionable future. It was a smash hit in Japan but that doesn't necessarily mean anything and it could just be flat out done for all we know.

Why would they choose a character for DLC that nobody wants, nobody recognizes, and doesn't promote anything readily accessible to like 95% of their global audience? I honestly resent the fact that this character keeps getting brought up and that's probably just me being a salty Takamaru fan.

Umm, uhhh, Geno. Duh. How would you pick Katalina over him? XD
I mean, people like anime and people like swords over guns.

Bad tastes, I know but tastes never the less.

I would so be on board for Katalina though. I figured she looks really cool regardless just by watching some gameplay and I usually get tired of these typical anime sword archetypes but she might be an exception.

I don't know why Sakurai couldn't just give us 5 Ballot picks instead of just K. Rool alone. K. Rool was my most wanted character and I voted for him during the Smash Ballot, but Sakurai just making the exception for K. Rool instead of not the other 4 top requested Ballot characters as well makes me kind of ****** off at Nintendo and sad for other fans that really wanted their character in.

I think Sakurai would have given us those other highly requested characters from the Smash Ballot in the base roster if it was completely up to him instead of Nintendo and said companies that own any of those characters. Nintendo probably pushed Sakurai to put in Isabelle and Incineroar in the base roster instead of fan favorites like Geno and Banjo & Kazooie because of promotional reasons. They could have saved Isabelle and Incineroar for DLC, but that might not have just only been on Nintendo's part, but also on said companies as well. They clearly probably want a profit off the money they could get off of those highly requested Ballot characters through DLC.

It's funny to see the Smash community change so drastically after DLC.

October: This game really is ultimate! Fan-favorite characters everywhere!
November: This game is just an ad! They don't care who fans want!

Saying K. Rool is the ONLY Ballot pick doesn't seem right. Ridley, Dark Samus, and Daisy definitely got votes, and I'm sure Simon and Chrom got a good amount of votes. Heck, "Everyone is Here!" was definitely the result of the Ballot. You can't tell me people didn't vote for Snake and Wolf.
I do agree that the DLC should be based around Ballot picks and not advertisements, however.
