This may be wishful thinking, but with all this talk of needing to work over the internet and what not...

Is there any chance that Sakurai and the Smash team are finally coming to realize how incredibly awful the Smash online is, and maybe they might try nd fix it?

I heard something about the team planning to fix online for Ultimate once all DLC is released. You might want to ask someone else about that, though.

Looking at the stuff I posted, there's definitely a sort of "flow" to DLC. February, April, and June are heavy release months and June, November, and December are heavy announcement months. Mapped out, you basically have this:

Feb (release), April (release), June (announce and release), November (announce), and December (announcement).

First half of the year is heavy on releases while the announcements typically come in the second half. The announcements have come from E3, Fall, and special presentations like the VGAs. Now, as you'll notice in my previous post, there's several characters that were announced or released very close to these "checkpoints."

Mewtwo- late October announcement
Byleth- late January release
ARMS- late March announcement

We also have Imran Khan's word that several characters were supposed to be announced or release at different times:

Hero - June release
Byleth- December announcement

Based on these factors, let's remap the DLC calendar:

February- Corrin (release), Bayo (release), Plant (release), Byleth (release)

April- Mewtwo (release), Lucas (announcement), Joker (release), Arms (announcement)

June - Lucas (release), Roy (announcement and release), Ryu (announcement and release), Hero (announcement and release), Banjo (announcement), ARMS (release)

September- Banjo (release), Terry (announcement)

November- Mewtwo (announcement), Cloud (announcement) Plant (announcement), Terry (release)

December- Cloud (release), Corrin (announcement), Bayo (announcement), Joker (announcement), Byleth (announcement)

Notice what happens when things are adjusted to be "on time."

February is a very strong release month, largely because this the month DLC has "ended" twice so far.

April is mixed largely thanks to the Spring Direct with both announcements and releases being reasonable expectations.

June is strong in both releases and announcements thanks to E3.

September just kind of exists with an announcement and release being a reasonable expectation thanks to the Fall Direct.

November is a very strong announcement month.

December is the second strongest announcement month after June thanks to special presentations. It should also be noted that in the "on time" model, these would have also had the final announcements of their respective DLC seasons too.

Hey, Fatmanonice Fatmanonice ; what would you say on the chances of a Smash reveal next week with that other Pokemon presentation happening in the same next week?
Pretty likely because both Tuesday and Thursday are currently open. Smash announcements have been on Tuesday this year almost perfectly. As we've pointed out in this thread, we kind of have a rolling schedule of spirit events and tournaments announced on Tuesdays, typically in about two week increments. A spirit event is one week and a tournament of some kind has been announced the next like clockwork. So, with this in mind, a spirit event was announced yesterday and the the open invitation ends this weekend. By this this measure, that means a themed tournament would normally be announced next week... or would it?

https://www.ssbwiki.com/Online_Tourney

Something notable about the themed tournaments is that every DLC character since Hero has one attached to them and announced shortly after their release. Banjo and Terry were released early in the month so their tournaments were the weekend after their release. Hero and Byleth were late in the month so their tournaments were at the first full week of the next month. This being said, ARMS's tournament likely won't be until the weekend of July 11th. Why is this notable? Watch:

June 16th- spirit event announcement
June 23rd- ???
June 30th- spirit event announcement
July 7th- themed tournament announcement

Based on this, the announcement on the 23rd won't be a spirit event announcement and it likely won't be a themed tournament announcement either because the invitational wraps up this weekend so, this then begs the question, what's the Smash event announcement going to be on the 23rd?

Obviously-not-Fatman here, but I wanted to get my two cents in: I'd say 99%+ given that next week is the week of the investors' meeting on that Friday (the 26th), and if it's not next week, the 30th would be the last option to do reveals. Talk about scummy.

Pretty good, then. Just one question, (not that it will probably matter, though) have we ever had two presentations in the same week? Just curious.

I suppose the only point to discuss left is FP7's reveal/release date. If for whatever reason we don't see FP7, what would you speculate to be the earliest time to see the trailer reveal? I'm hoping we get more than ARMS frankly because I can't see the first 2 or 3 characters of this pass delayed at all, maybe the last 3.

Oh right, the investor's meeting. They should have some things ready not just for us, but for the sake of the investors, if you ask me.

Yeah exactly, and the more they've shown off, the better. I'm sure investors are privy to NDA stuff (in which case, I might throw $50 at them for a share and check it out sometime, haha), but getting fan reactions and seeing the huge amount of positive buzz they get from stuff is definitely a good thing to show to investors.

Well, in that regard, we already have an answer... September for the release because of the leaked Amiibo wave. Based on past precedent, this heavily implies 7 will be announced in June; why? Because of what was supposed to happen with the Fighter's Pass. Hero was supposed to be a shadowdrop at E3 2019 according to Imran Khan and Banjo was announced, only to eventually release in September. You'll note that the Fall 2019 Direct had Banjo's release and Terry's announcement, something that will likely happen again. This is further supported by the fact that we've had a September Fall Direct the last four years and Isabelle was a September Fall Direct announcement too. This said, the Fall Direct is likely to have both an announcement and a release too, meaning that, in order for their to be a release, someone would have to be announced beforehand and shadowdrops have only ever been planned for E3. This means that, at the very least, 6 and 7 are safe predictions for the upcoming Smash presentation.

I really do hope so and that it wasn't delayed for our sake.

After doing a look through Nintendo's direct history, I can't find a single instance of them holding a multiple presentations in the same week outside of Japanese only stuff for specific games which mostly stopped after around 2015, and E3 2015 with the Smash Presentation, which feels more like an obvious exception than anything else. That being said, these are weird times, and stuff seems to point to next week regardless. Also checked, they haven't held a presentation of any kind on a Monday since the Micro Direct before E3 in 2015, which was a shadowdropped NA only thing, so if we don't see it next week, we are actually waiting until the goddamn 30th. Jesus Christ Nintendo.

If they just held the Pokemon stuff on the week of E3 and last week, I think there would be a lot less frustration with where we're at right now.

Or maybe they could have just PUT IT ALL IN ONE PRESENTATION! Seriously, I nearly spat out my coffee this morning when they announced the second presentation, it feels like a meme someone would put in a Youtube Poop or something. What could be SO important that they couldn't just reveal it with the rest of the stuff, NO, this needs it's own week, clearly.

Not sure if this was brought up, but I find it very interesting that Nintendo Of Europe randomly tweeted this out of the blue.

There was a problem fetching the tweet

I know this year has sucked and has felt like crawling death but I suppose one thing I want to say about this year is that everything that I heard about gaming in 2020 back in 2019 is basically coming true: every company is basically going above and beyond and companies across the industry are reviving unexpected things left and right. We're technically not halfway through the year yet but, seriously, let's notarize this ****:

-Special announcements for Sonic's 30th
-Special announcements for Super Mario's 35th
-Special announcements for Tales' 25th
-Special announcements for Pac-Man's 40th
-Special announcements for Crash Banicoot
-Special announcements for Kingdom Hearts
-As bored as we are of hearing about it, let's not forget that Nintendo getting its own theme park and officially teaming up with LEGO are both enormous deals.
-Of course, we have (at least) 6 more Smash DLC characters to look forward to.

And this is just what we currently know. Now let's look at all the dead franchises that have been revived so far this year:

-Streets of Rage
-Alexx Kidd
-Little Big Planet
-Rachet and Klank are getting their first brand new adventure game since 2013
-Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
-Pokemon Snap
-Tony Hawk Proskater
-Crash is getting his first true new adventure game since 2008
-Panel de Pon was brought over to the West for the first time in 25 years
-Duke Nukem
-The Wonderful 101 successfully got remastered

Again... this is just what we know and we've barely touched the Nintendo stuff but it's pretty notable. Two revived, heavily requested dead Pokemon spinoffs, a Japanese game that people have been begging for a Western release since I was an awkward teenager, and a Paper Mario that doesn't make most people want to immediately jump in front of a train. Also, little known fact, do you know that Trials of Mana is actually a Super Nintendo remake of a Japanese exclusive from 1995? Seems like Square's already started on its promise to remake CLASSIC SQUARE RPGS ORIGINALLY RELEASED ON NINTENDO CONSOLES for the Switch, huh? People are sick of me saying it and obviously I've gotten a lot of flak for it since last August but I once again want to say that, as much of a pain in the ass this year has been, the wait for Nintendo will more than likely be well worth it on multiple fronts.

So I made this 60 pictures of Most Wanted/Likely Characters to appear.

Of course my (and our) most wanted is Geno. Then I just put the people I hear most and some others I would like to see.

Scorpion is mixed with Sub Zero cause I think it if happens, it would be a Ryu/Ken situation. About Pokemon, Urshifu would come the 2 in the same slot of course; probably the same with Z&Z. I also added my random pick “a Tetris piece” just because I think Sakurai love this kind of stuff and I don’t see a problem if he gives this figure a moveset.

Also of course you can make a 100 list characters, but this is what I think it’s more likely. And of course it’s very stretched cause if it depends on me, I would make just a 15 list. I tried to put what all people love, not just me.

I can’t imagine a character in the Fighter Pass 2 that isn’t in this collages I made. Probably all the FP2 will be chosen from here.

What do you think people? And of course it’s nice to see what Fatmanonice Fatmanonice and @papagenos think.

ANYWAY, I’m just hoping and giving my 100% on Geno. With him playable, I won’t ask ever again anything in gaming, and of course I won’t be that passionate with another character like Im with Mega Man and now, mostly Geno. But of course I would love other people accomplishing their dreams, or the rest of mine (Skull Kid, another Sonic, or other from Zelda, Scorpion, Hayabusa, more indie Reps like Hollow/Ori and of course Crash, which I think is a 100% closed deal right now, together with Geno). Crash and Geno are happening without a single doubt. But I have to admit I was half paid with Mega Man reveal in 2013; and now I would be fully paid with Geno reveal in 2020. My 2 most beloved third party babies.

GENO SHOOTS FOR SMASH!

EDIT: there are 2 Captain Toad; one was intented to be Reimu but I made an error editing.

EDIT 2: the roster is now fixed and I put the missing Reimu over the duplicated Captain Toad.

EDIT 3: no particular order. Just Geno in first place.

I think it makes sense for smash to be the same week as Pokemon if it was delayed. What I'm thinking is that it was initially planned for E3 week like we were all expecting at one point, but when the PS5 event got moved to that week Nintendo rushed to reschedule. Smash news would be white noise alongside the PS5 reveal, so they probably would have wanted to wait if that was the case. Now I don't think they can really tell the Pokemon company what to do or when, so they probably just decided to plunk the smash presentation in a week with Pokemon because what other option is there besides moving it out of July when Pokemon takes up the rest of the month?

Like the saying goes, "good things come to those who wait". The closer we come to the end of June, the closer we are to the Smash announcement.

yes this has been a bad semester because the Virus and no Smash News, but I’m pretty sure the CGI we are about to see during the ARMS presentation will make all the wait worth. Just imagine all the ideas we have discussed they can do a Geno reveal there.

Keep shooting for the stars!

You should want who you want because you like the character or franchise.

One shouldn't worry about realistic choices alone. Plus, wants and likeliness can coexist and be separate. I wouldn't worry about that. There's a lot of non-game characters I'd love in Smash.

I think that the original plan was to reveal both ARMS fighter and (a teaser?) of CP7 at E3 (june 9th). Release date for arms was going to be the same day as E3 direct or maybe between 2 to 7 days later. Release date for CP7 was always planned for september.

But now I think we will get ARMS fighter released next week, CP7 reveal at september direct, with a release later that month. Maybe we also get CP8 reveal (with a tentative release of early december to conmemorate 2 year Ultimate anniversary).

To be fair though, a lot of these aren't really that strange. Sonic and Mario have both done something special for their last anniversary milestones, with things like Mania and Mario Maker (let's forget about Forces). As far as I can tell Tales is in a weird position with no solid Arise news for nearly a year, and the only thing being a mobile game. They delayed the Tales festival to next year, so it's it's difficult to see what kinds of "special announcements" they'll announce. The PAC-MAN stuff has been cool, but aside from Minecraft nothing huge has come out of it (yet). And announcements for Crash and Kingdom Hearts are not strange at all. Crash became one of Activision's biggest series, so obviously more things will come out. There's always special announcements for KH every year.

Ratchet and Clank were never really dead. They got a full blown remake with substantial enough changes and a full blown movie. Crash getting another game isn't surprising, and we don't even know if it's a full blown adventure game or just a 3D platformer with traditional stages. It's not really weird that Trials of Mana got remade, considering that Secret of Mana got remade back in 2018. It's a different situation then say something like SMRPG or Chrono Trigger getting remade. It just seems like Square actually advertised Trials of Mana both inside and outside of Japan this time and it sold pretty well for a "budget" title too.

That said, there definitely have been a lot of surprising revivals like you said. No one was really expecting a new Snap or Pro Skater anytime soon. It looks like we're potentially getting a TWEWY sequel too, and there are a rumours for a ton of underrated franchises returning.

Bonus:
Kid Icarus.jpg

I find it strange that Pit/Dark Pit are getting rereleased figmas, and especially that they got revealed right around the time of E3. Perhaps we'll see KI:U ported soonish and it was meant to be revealed at E3, but again this is pretty loose information and it could just be a coincidence.

If they had a reveal trailer for Fighter 7 planned then I would expect them to have it done and ready to show, especially since we've already known about the ARMS character for almost 3 months. The reveal is at least happening this month, and the release in September.

I find it strange that Pit/Dark Pit are getting rereleased figmas, and especially that they got revealed right around the time of E3. Perhaps we'll see KI:U ported soonish and it was meant to be revealed at E3, but again this is pretty loose information and it could just be a coincidence.
how is that strange? Figmas gets re releases all the time

What will happen to this thread if Geno is released?
To me, it´s the final guy from the long time wishlist that isn´t a trophy.

The people on here probably won’t be as active but we’ll all still be here. There’s still work to do if Geno gets in. The next step is making Nintendo aware that we want to see the mario RPG rights back at Nintendo and then have mallow and Geno in games. It’s a tough job but it’s one that needs doing. We’ve come all this way and it would be a shame to stop.
