Was waiting for a reply like this. Of course it would be you, Eric.

The only notable one there in that list of your is Lara Croft. The rest aren't even close in terms of being iconic or notable and are up where they are due to fan support, and I feel like Reimu and 2B have only had this recent mini-surge of support.

Frankly, that list posted was very based and would be the best way to finish off Ultimate. I don't think a single character change would be an improvement and I will point out that my own bias would rather have Spyro over Crash but I acknowledge that what I want wouldn't be as good as that list.

We don't need a female character to make it good and thinking a female rep would make that list better is silly. It would have been one thing if you had said "I'd rather have 2B over Waluigi" because then it would be you showing fan support for a character you like, but saying "Would be nice to have any female character over Waluigi" shows that you just want any female rep just to have a female and not true character support but rather to meet a weird quota. Also, Waluigi is a fantastic pick and if you hate on him because he's memey remember that many other people look at Geno like he's a joke as well.

My own buddy sees Geno as a meme pick, which I can't understand because Geno's situation is nothing like Waluigi's, but that is just proof people see Geno as a memey pick.
It's not that complex mate. I don't like Waluigi. At all, and it goes beyond memes just because I find him unappealing and boring. I like the other characters I listed better and I would like there to be female character somewhere in DLC because there are some cool female characters with cool moveset potential and many of them are gaining a fan base right now anda lot of people would enjoy seeing a little bit more inclusion in Smash. This is a point that Sakurai said that he even wanted to address in Smash 4 for crying out loud, it's not the end of the world or something you have to fuss at every time somebody suggests it. It doesn't have to mean anything to you and you can just enjoy a character for being a character, but it can mean something to other people besides yourself. We have more obscure/niche picks such as Travis, Geno, and Isaac on this list anyway, so I don't think it matters too much that we consider someone like 2B or Reimu, and like, we shouldn't just take a fixed point in Smash and have everything revolve around it. If other characters take off in support prior to the end of DLC, why not possibly include them as well if they're interesting and it can work out.

It's not a perfect list for a lot of people. Maybe in this thread it is, but there are lots I know elsewhere that be disappointed and that's fine. It's not some objectively "best" list across demographics or anything of the sort.

But like, why does throw you in a fit every time that I bring up I might want a women character to be in DLC because there are some genuinely great options and that it would make a lot of people happy? It doesn't matter how "shallow" you think it is because it would make some people happy and the character themselves would probably please some people because it does matter to some people. It's no different than asking for another Kirby character or a first party or whatever. So would Waluigi as much as I loathe to admit it and really my distaste to the character shouldn't matter.

All it was, was another dig at a character I care negatively about and showing support for a really inoffensive idea that is gaining more and more traction in Smash communities when you have GameXplain bring this up multiple times and more threads popping up in support of the idea on Smash websites. I don't want just any female character, but there are several great options that I'm willing to support on any given day. You want me to get more specific, fine, I choose Reimu and then as I mentioned before, KOS-MOS over Rex. But I wouldn't be unhappy with other choices like 2B or Lara Croft or Nakoruru or Shantae. This is just how I would personally mold the list to my tastes (and I forgot to mention subbing Master Chief for Doom Slayer because Halo > Doom every single time) and that's a pretty common thing people do when we see these lists made.

Hmm. I like those Geno's rival ideas quite a bit.

It made me wonder (not sure if in Mario RPG it's brought up or not) if there were more members of Geno's particular 'kindred' or star beings that had the power and ability to possess objects like he can do so.

Or if ALL of the star entities had the ability to do so but Geno was the only that step up to the front to help. I doubt it because otherwise there would be more of them or references to it as a whole when we met Geno at that iconic forest...

Oh well, I honestly think there's more of them, but like Geno, not that many.

But for the few that there are, I'm sure they look up to Geno as the Star that helped in saving not only the Mushroom Kingdom but the world the Mario series takes place in.

You just keep happening to be pushing female characters really hard, and it bothers me because it comes off agenda-based rather than genuine love for the characters, and when I see something that seems agenda-based I'll fight it every time. I see lots of this 'we need a female character stat!' all over and it's like the idea of having a character get in that has bobs and vagene is more important than having a character that everyone loves.

Sure, all the characters you mention have support and love and I'm down with that. If any one of those characters got in the game I'm sure I would learn to appreciate them and maybe even enjoy the character as that has happened for me multiple times in Smash. Very rarely am I against a character's inclusion (Tracer being a good example) and never once has it been due to the character themselves (**** Blizzard!). My issue is strictly the vibes you give off and that others flat-out admit that there is an agenda and not true lover for the character.

This idea goes for anyone who is pushing a similar narrative, for example those who want more Nintendo characters and don't care who they are just because of Smash Bros purity arguments that are just as stupid. If you are pushing for any character under a qualifying umbrella just because you think boxes need to be ticked, I will strongly be against you.

Also, I wouldn't say it's throwing a fit. We've had people in here throw fits, and I would like to say that my responses to you do not fall under that category.

That said, is Reimu your most wanted character? That's what I care about: not who you think should be in for whatever reason, but who you want to be in. No narratives or agendas, just pure desire and wishful thinking.

Perhaps Geno's a special 'combat' spirit with object possession and transformation powers, or something like that, while others are purely the wish-granting sort with little fighting ability. Either the Star Road's shattering sent them into such chaos that Geno was the only one available to go down to the planet, or he's an elite star or specifically suited to being given the mission to recover the pieces.

Can we stop this, please? Aside from this being completely off-topic, there's nothing wrong with people wanting more women in Smash, especially if we're working with the idea of there being three full Fighters Passes.

I mean, I don't think anyone pushing an agenda should necessarily be discredited any more or less than anyone else supporting a character is my thing. Our disagreements boil down to the fact that I just don't really register much of a difference between specific characters and ideas of more support. Now, I'll be the first to admit, I've been very critical of pushing for ideas in the past versus specific characters because I think we've obviously seen which one actually makes progress happen. Character specific support will get characters almost every time versus pushing an idea primarily. I just don't have any issues with other people who push them and I've pushed a few myself. It just doesn't bother me nor register as an issue. At the end of the day, our speculation is about supporting your vision for Smash. Maybe that's all specific characters, maybe that's more idea based. Doesn't matter to me.

Fit was a wee bit strong I admit, but still, it's just such a strong resistance to it that catches me off guard every time.

Reimu isn't my most wanted character across the board. My top five most wanted characters right now are Geno, Master Chief, Sora, Crash Bandicoot, and Travis Touchdown hence my initial approval of the list. If I expand that to top 10, however, it would include KOS-MOS (who I've recently come into really liking because I think she could have a wickedly cool moveset and I like her way more than other options from Xenoblade as an actually fairly prominent crossover character), Reimu (she's my favorite Indie choice, bullet hell character from a weird as hell franchise with dope music? Sign me up), Dante (he's in everything already and Resident Evil went best, it feels weird that he isn't already here TBH with how perfectly he fits), Heihachi (a Tekken character could be really dope if done well and Heihachi is ****ing great despite the fact I know he's somewhat less interesting than other picks), and Ryu Hayabusa (He's literally perfect for Smash with all of his abilities, the classic NES connection, and some great music).

True, it is off topic. That's why I moved to the Star Road Discord server as we can actually have conversations there.

However, I can't disagree enough.

Wanting a character because you truly love them >>>>>>>>> Wanting a character due to needing to meet an artificial quota based off an agenda.

Fortunately, I know for a fact Sakurai doesn't think like this, as it's a very American culture way of thinking and is honestly only very recent. If Sakurai puts in a character, it's because he loves them or he knows people love them and he's a true gamer that respects the origin of the characters and their games.

I mean, I don't think anyone pushing an agenda should necessarily be discredited any more or less than anyone else supporting a character is my thing. See, there we go! That's what I'm talking about! Screw 'we need more of this' and let's go 'These are the characters I love and want in Smash'!

Since we agree to disagree on that first part, I'll focus on the latter part and say that I'm actually jealous of you because you can branch out to 10 characters genuinely while I myself get stuck at 3. After Geno, Sora, and Spyro...I have to shove in characters other people really want because I really don't have an attachment to many characters or they are all ones that are already in the game/have no chance to be in the game (Goemon would have been my fourth but uhhh...we all saw the third Mii Costume Wave. Characters like Viewtiful Joe, Krieg from Borderlands 2, Peacock/Big Band from Skullgirls, Blaziken, or any character from obscure games like Dokapon Kingdom, Dragon Warrior Monsters or Magic Pengel: Quest for Color just are not going to happen).

I've missed out on a lot of iconic games as a kid, but even so a lot of those characters ended up in Smash anyway, so I really don't have a lot to choose from in terms of who I would want.

This is one of the reasons why I'm so ride or die for Geno and why I keep saying Sakurai could end with Geno or pretty much do whatever he wanted after that and I wouldn't ask for anything else because Geno is the top of my VERY small list of characters that I care about and the separation between him and Sora is unbelievable in terms of how much I want the blue puppet boi.

God, I really feel like he's coming though. Sakurai, GIVE ME STRENGTH!

EDIT: Little fun fact about me, originally the my list was ACTUALLY just Geno and Goemon. I was so upset with Kingdom Hearts 3 that I pulled Sora from my list out of spite, but the 12-yr-old in me eventually worked it's way through and my love for the series runs too deep to not want Sora in Smash. I root for it to happen for the younger me who would cry tears of joy at the reveal even if older and jaded me could care less. Spyro is a recent addition after playing and completing most of Spyro 1 from Reignited Trilogy. Lots of people want Crash and we got Banjo & Kazooie, but Spyro was the character I grew up with as my 3D platformer favorite and I would love to play as him in Smash.

I hope that if Square were to ever make another Mario RPG, they would in some way refrence the other Mario RPGs.

One of my favorite little touches in TTYD is the subtle shoutouts to Superstar Saga (the Beanish bartenders and, in the English version, Chuckola Cola). A new Mario RPG that ties in references to all the past games would be wonderful. Mention Nimbus Land, Star Spirits, Glitzville, beans, Shroobs, the Blorbs, Sammer Guys, and Pi’illos all in one game and I’d be so happy

Let us not forget that M&L gave a few nods to SMRPG as well(Geno being in SS and the SMRPG styled item block in PiT). I imagine Paper Jam's events will make referencing Paper Mario a bit more awkward though.

My head canon is that the Paper Mario storybooks are retellings of actual Mario adventures (because I refuse to accept a reality where TTYD is not some sort of canon)

But it is canon, it's just in a pocket dimension within the Mario universe.

Likening this to Smash bros information, I wonder how much nicer it would be if Nintendo at least gave us a release window for each character up front rather than randomly dropping bombs in between periods of famine. For example, if they said:

Fighter#5 release (Late Dec 2019-Early Jan 2020)

Fighter#6 release (Late Dec 2019-Feb 2020)

Fighter#7 release (March 2020-May 2020)

etc.
No joke, I think this alone would help alleviate speculation a lot and make it way less painful. If Nintendo wants to draw out all the reveals, fine, but at least tell us when we can expect to find out. It would certainly be helpful in light of Smash fans tuning into the Game Awards hoping for a reveal and then just getting nothing.

Lets say those nintendo interns™ made the mother of all oopsies and we suddenly found out this is our dlc lineup. How would you feel about it?

All fan favorites, all awesome.

My only problem with this would be the price. The ten "Fighters Pass 2" characters should be split into two separate passes (the last five can be Fighters Pass 3) and sold for the same price as the first Fighters Pass (possibly less depending on whether they come with stages, music, and/or spirits again).

Attention Genobros, i'm bringing you great news!
My insider-sources told me Geno is guaranteed to be revealed for Mario RPG's 24th anniversary next year as the first character of the 2nd Fighter Pass!
At first I knew 100% that it was either gonna end up to be Lloyd or Dark Souls, but after that I was previously told there are 4 frontrunners, similar to each other but also each from a different company and one of them was a 100% lock. I immeditaely backpedaled when i was told it was more likely Nightmare from Soul Calibur until Namco was deconfirmed to be the company and then I thought it was Dovahkiin.
But now I think Geno really is a lock, so just trust me!!!

Imagine having this sad of a life.

Anyway, does anyone else kinda worry if Waluigi gets in, that it might hurt Geno’s chances? Would we really get three Mario characters as DLC and 4 total in Ultimate?

Wait, when did Waluigi's chances go up in terms of becoming a playable character, may I ask?

And how would it hurt Geno's chances?

Hey ForsakenM i read your recent comment about not wanting female representation in Smash. We are living in the 21st century! Even if Geno is our most wanted, being mysogynist isn't cool and an incel thing. I recommend you overthinking your current opinions

Not really. Waluigi and Geno aren't from the same part of the Mario franchise or even from the same company, plus they're so wildly different in terms of design and moveset that it shouldn't matter either way.

Star Hill was also the location's name in Mario & Luigi and had a similar aesthetic to our game's Star Hill.

Odd, I was thinking about saying something like that. Yes, Waluigi and Geno are two very different characters, and not just personality based, but other reasons, too, like being from different companies, and how being from different companies affects their chances individually.

I don’t know if they did or not, it’s more of a hypothetical. It wouldn’t necessarily hurt Geno’s chances, but it would be 3 Mario characters as DLC.

I don’t know if they did or not, it’s more of a hypothetical. It wouldn’t necessarily hurt Geno’s chances, but it would be 3 Mario characters as DLC.
If you can even call Geno a Mario character, since he is owned by Square Enix.

P.S.: That character in your avatar, I want him in Smash Bros. Ultimate as a playable character.

I'm pretty sure Sakurai puts in whoever he wants and if someone doesn't get in, it's a case of him not being willing or maybe not even able to get an agreement worked out, or it's a case of lack of development time or funds. I'm pretty sure he doesn't go into a project and give himself restrictions like 'Okay, so I can only put in this many characters from this series...'.

Yeah, but he’s still a Mario character(then again I’m someone who counts Banjo as a Mario Universe character since he debuted in Diddy Kong Racing lol). Mario is my favorite series and I think it’s deserving of the amount of reps it gets, but not everyone thinks that.

Black Shadow has been in my top 10 for awhile. I was kinda surprised he didn’t make it in as an echo honestly.

If you say so, though Geno is still owned by another company, Square Enix, which I have heard is tough to use characters from. We're lucky, though, as they let us use Cloud and Hero, and so we may get Geno next.

And yeah, Black Shadow deserves to be in Smash Bros. Ultimate, even if as a playable echo. Why have they not added him in yet?

Odd, I was thinking about saying something like that. Yes, Waluigi and Geno are two very different characters, and not just personality based, but other reasons, too, like being from different companies, and how being from different companies affects their chances individually.
True. Aside from people who absolutely can't stand more Mario characters for whatever reason (which I think is a stupid stance to take), I think most would be ok with Geno and Waluigi both being DLC because they're so different anyway.

..I'd say Kamek should get in Ultimate, but do you think it might be easy to mistake him for Geno and lose track of who you're playing during fast-paced matches?

So would I. I can tolerate those kind of characters. I would actually love to see both of them in. And like you said, they would be different. Not just as characters from Mario games, but in terms of movesets, too.
