I gotta say, feels like this last week has been kind of rough. The whole thread has turned into Lloyd General and despite Fatman's insistence on Geno's likelihood post pass, something is starting to feel really off, and I think it's legitimately just Lloyd. I'm stuck on repeat when I say it, but you guys who would be happy to see Lloyd are really turning your backs on Geno because of the implication it would have. Sakurai intended to end the DLC on upgrading a costume... and it wasn't Geno. Even with the guarantee that we have more characters coming, it feels like a move like that just wouldn't bode well for Geno, period, and it bugs the piss out of me, not gonna lie.

If I've been especially snappy or disagreeable, that's the reason, because of what the slight possibility of Lloyd Irving as Fighter Pass #5 implies. This drought of information and this wholesale murder of speculation in the last few days has just been a lot to stomach and it's putting me into a mood where if Geno's in just let us know so I can stop having to pretend to care when a character gets announced and if he's never happening just put me out of my misery, again, so I can stop pretending to care about the others.

The fact that Final Fantasy only got two spirits in the base roster makes me skeptic. Maybe since the fact that Dragon Quest was DLC meant that Sakurai was able to get some spirits. But still, the fact that Square Enix is so stingy with any content makes me fearful for any Square Enix characters. As much as I want Geno, Sora, and Lara Croft, I know that they would most likely only get 2 songs unless Sakurai is able to negotiate to get songs from multiple games since Square Enix seems to have a rule of only 2 songs per game because they want to sell their songs on their music platform or whatever. Maybe Sakurai could work out a deal with Square and get some more content for FF7 if he picked Sephiroth as DLC, but there will probably still be some level of backlash. Hopefully Final Fantasy gets more content in the future, but I'm hoping we don't get too many more Square characters as, quite frankly, there are many other publishers and developers that would allow a lot more content and thus more bang for our buck. It's a shame because Legend of the Seven Stars and Kingdom Hearts have such great soundtracks.

Dude dont worry about a what if were there was not extra dlc and geno did not get picked. Its better to focus on what can happen in the future rather then worry about something that does not matter in the long run. Let just hope and pray for out boy rather then get made a something that does not matter.

As much as I like Final Fantasy 7, I’m not really into the idea of Sephiroth, or even more final fantasy before Geno (and Crono). Sephiroth would be probably be very poorly balanced. The sword is longer than Simon’s whip, and its always at full length. It’d probably be clunky to play if not over powered. I wouldnt hate his inclusion but I cant say I’d be thrilled.

Im not gonna get hung up on that scenario. I kinda doubt Lloyd is #5, but even if he is, I dont think he was chosen over Geno. He probably wanted to keep it at one company per pass, and of course the grandfather of JRPGS took precedence.

I got mad and shared it to shut people up and get them off my back despite saying over and over again that I needed permission first. I apologized to the Private Discord about it months ago and the fact you're actually using it as a line of attack is totally out of line. If my closest friends on the matter forgave me almost four months ago, including the NoA source, what's your excuse?

looked up the nightmare theme at planks suggestion and holy ****ing ****, ive got to say this is one of the finest pieces of music ive heard when it comes to gaming. badass and epic

i remember playing sc2 as a kid but i was too young to appreciate this theme. it would b cool if they included this with lloyd along with other nice bamco songs the way they did snk with terry. remember when sc2 had link and heihachi as guest characters? its funny to think that all these years later we hear rumors and speculation as to now nightmare and heihachi being in smash. #soulcaliburdiditfirst

Sephiroth has a damn fine chance in my eyes (and while I'd mourn Geno, I'd be very happy for his fans and FF7 fans in general, they were really ripped off with the lackluster content with Cloud), although I wonder how his inclusion as paid DLC would go over with the FF fans, especially if all he gets are spirits and music tracks. Would he be as expensive as a FP? As expensive as Plant? Wouldn't a sizable chunk of fans be upset that they couldn't just give us more music with Cloud, or otherwise patching in that music and those spirits for free? I mean, if I were them, I wouldn't mind in the slightest, because hey, more content! Even if I have to give more money for it, that's still awesome! I could still see a smaaaaall amount of backlash with it, though, especially if the music is all just MIDIs from FF7 with no remixes... or heck, just another song or two with nothing else to give.

After DQ, I would have expected people to see how much more open they have become, specially considering the reffered franchise had even more parties involved.
I don't think it will be the same situation as in 2015.
I believe spirits, music and a stage would be feasible, and it would cost just like any other DLC. SE gets a bigger share from the content anyway, and with them being more experienced with lending IPs to third parties, the huge amount of praise from within SE of how Smash treated their chars, I don't think it's impossible to get much more content. After all, considering the content we got, it isn't far fetched they could have gone with a renewal of content from S4 and go for DLC for extra, as SE never lends their IP for the base game of other companies, given they get less share. But it goes to show how much they love Sakurai's work and how much they trust Nintendo. They have been the biggest third party partners for Ninty this gen, with only KH and the Remake missing, which both are speculated to arrive later with a possible DQXI treatment.

And I'll be here hoping for the best for everyone. It will be fun.

And btw, I love the original enough to not even care about remixes. The MIDI songs were great.
I just hope we get the orchestral One Winged Angel from the early 2000s CDs that later landed in Dissidia.

If Geno makes it, I'll be happy for all of you.

He has been present for a long time among other people.

There is no way that I could’ve known that. Because like you said, that was a private Discord.

My problem is, you claim to just be speculating. However, you then go on and share information that isn’t previously known to the public. (Not just the Starling, I also mean all of the names you have supposedly heard as well.)

The definition of “leak” is to “intentionally disclose secret information”. Even if you were given permission, you are still leaking information that only a private Discord has heard.

Therefore, I simply can’t view you as just a “speculator”.

While I'd personally like Nightmare over Lloyd, given I grew up with SCII... I'd prefer to see Lloyd get in first. His fan base is so dedicated and have wanted him for a long time, plus they got his costume in the last game. I really feel like now should be his time.

I think I know what this about. Jon was on Twitter saying Rex & Pyra have the safest shot on getting in, I was telling him that they are not getting in because of the Mii Costume, little back & forth happen. Honestly people can go on and say there are no rules but there totally are. Characters become Assist Trophies, Spirits, or Mii Costume because there's no plans for them at all. If people still think Rex & Pyra are a save bet then they're just fooling themselves.

I think the big reason is Lloyd is in a similar boat to Geno.
-Both 3rd party Mii Costumes from Sm4sh.
-Both highly supported throughout speculation. (Biggest being Brawl)

The big difference is Geno is a Spirit in the game, where Lloyd never had that. He has a clean slate from Ultimate.

Now we have to consider that the Fighter's Pass was, more than likely, GOING TO BE IT FOR DLC. So it would feel...odd, if Lloyd was the final fighter. Lloyd gets the upgrade, yet Geno didn't? Of course, if this was it for the DLC, we could have seen Geno return as a costume. In that scenario, it would have people going bananas because Lloyd was the ONLY costume to get upgraded.

HOWEVER, that is not the scenario we live in. Thanks to our resident Fatman ( Fatmanonice ), Geno is all but confirmed at this point...Unless something really radical and drastic changes the insiders info.

So, let me get this straight...

You are salty at the idea that Sakurai potentially got Hero over Geno for the last Square DLC character and may have also picked Lloyd as a costume upgrade instead of Geno? I guess my question is...why?

Cloud beat Geno last time, and it made sense then. Hero beat Geno for now, and that also makes sense as well. Lloyd would be the first Tales Of rep since the requests poured in for Brawl, and considering thus far it seems like only one character per company in the pass...I fail to see why this would upset you?

If anything, I would be losing my mind for being grateful that when Nintendo basically told Sakurai to get ret-2-go for Wave 2, that Geno's costume hasn't returned and thus Sakurai could have immediately been like 'Wait, I get to do more? Yo Square, I got Cloud and DQ. Now, I'm here to get what I truly came for all these times, and nothing you have can stand in my way...' rather than ALSO getting Geno's costume with Hero and basically having Sakurai say he doesn't give a **** about us anymore.

Or FP#5 could be some rando none of us have any idea about, in which case your selfish reflection is no longer accurate and you are justified in your hopes.

Really the only ways to look at it.

I wish what Jon said in the recent Gamexplain video is true about how Smash truly has no rules and if Nintendo wants they could easily put in Isaac, Rex/Pyra, Skull Kid, Etc. etc. but I doubt they would do it.

And it's not even that it's necessarily a rule people have it's just that people think Nintendo won't do it and that they don't want to do it but hey if we're wrong and we get Isaac, Rex/Pyra and more then I'd be happy.

Obviously I'm not including Geno in this cause he's one of the few spirit upgrades I could actually see happening.
