I can see it now. TGA reveal, world premiere trailer and everything.

The trailer starts with a bunch of characters fighting a huge horde of generic zombies. Everyone immediately assumes that either the Spirits were misdirection and it’s really RE, or maybe something like Frank West or even an L4D rep.

But no.

Just as our heroes are about to be overwhelmed, some kind of green burst sends the zombies flying. A red explosive destroys a bunch more. Machine gun fire can be heard in the distance. Over the horizon, there’s a giant horde of Piranha Plants rushing in to help with the battle, lead by...

I don't think it's Master Chief. I still believe that each company won't get more than one fighter for this fighters pass. As future DLC? Likely, though he still has the problem of never appearing on a Nintendo console. Going by this logic, we can probably safely remove Sega, Square Enix, Microsoft, and SNK characters from the table for now. How about Monokuma? Danganronpa V3 was still relatively new and popular around the time they chose the DLC characters (as far as we know from speculation).

Also, with PlayStation being at that Smash tournament, I wonder if Sony will start playing ball with Nintendo? I don't think so, but it could happen. Warcraft is a possible left field pick and that honestly sounds dope. Let's see...Soul Calibur is a possibility, especially since Link appeared in one of the GameCube games. God, so many options no matter where you slice it.

I doubt it but man would I love too see him giving his definition of insanity speech then going crazy on the smash roster with riffles, knives, and and handguns and such.

Plus loved that game and Michael Mando doing his lines, from the game again would be great.

Recent stuff was: NoA says tales news are coming, but i dont remember him saying he heard lloyd for smash specifically. If anything, it's still a possible lead, and the fact the trademarks that came the same day he told us that, haven't been used anywhere yet (not even during the October tales event that happened, so that was very sus as it is). Lloyd's chances are high but i dont particularly remember NoA guy telling us he heard lloyd's name, i will have to dig on that chat log cause my memorry is a bit fuzzy.

Other than that, between NoA and Sabi's other big source that i can guarantee is a good one, they deconfirmed Tracer, Crash ( I almost combined those names and typed "trash"… i shouldn't be typing stuff this late in my timezone, lol), and ryu hayabusa.

Nightmare and Sol were names he (NoA) heard waaay back in summer i think, but he told us that he was 30% trusting the source HE heard it from, so not a bone i would be bitting personally. If it's not that solid, it's not worth sharing imo, but that's just me. We haven't heard anything around those names since then… so yeah. Just clarifying and recapping what we know in our private group so far.

Imagine how anxious we all would be right now if we didn’t know there would be more characters after the pass. I guarantee you that the general public has even less of an idea of whoever Yuri is than they do Lloyd. Not to mention Symphonia is the best selling Tales game

Not that I think either of them are especially good picks for the game awards but saying Yuri is more recognizable than Lloyd is kind of ridiculous

Im pretty sure that Yuri was the top of the official popularity polls especially the Japanese polls. Yuri would do a much better job gaining the interest among Tales fans.

Like, I get that Gordon Freeman was deconfirmed, and I guess some other characters, but....wasn't this all expected for awhile now? What made today's situation so drastically different? Was it cuz the RE cast just got a deconfirm now?

Y'know, I think I've figured out why we're all in such a frenzy right now. Because this stretch of time is the first time since before November that we have no idea what's coming, officially or not.
- November drops, Kencineroar dropped, Plant revealed. Game isn't out yet.
- December 6th, game almost out, Joker revealed. Game is almost out.
- Sometime after, it's discovered that Yuusha (Hero) is coming to the game via datamines. Game is out already, breedy guud stuff.
- Tail end of February, Plant drops. Joker is on the way, Yuusha (Hero) still known.
- Some random-ass day in April, Joker drops, Yuusha (Hero) still known. Stage Builder drops, generates nonstop memes. Game is ruined forever.
- Early June, Newman leaks Banjo, Yuusha (Hero) still known. Fanbase defecates itself in anticipation.
- June 12th, Hero and Banjo revealed. Pants confirmed brown.
- Late July, Hero drops, Banjo still known. Pants have been laundered.
- Late August, Intern-kun shames his family, leaks SNK character by accident.
- September 4th, Banjo drops, Terry officially revealed. Fanbase left waiting for Hat!Ken to drop.
- November 6th, Terry drops, Sakurai confirmed FGC man. Insiders have little idea as to who's next, everyone you think is coming is deconfirmed daily.
- Fanbase has resorted to cannibalism. Society has collapsed, nobody's talking about Geno anymore, Green Eggs & Ham is confirmed to be breedy guud.

Honestly, from a business perspective, even just a single extra character or two is worth avoiding the legitimate goddamn insanity that would be occurring at this point otherwise.

Also, when it comes to #5 in general, I just generally want to see something new. Give me a VN rep. Give me a puzzle rep*. Give me an FPS rep*. Even give me a virtual pet rep. Just don’t give me another JRPG or fighting game rep. Those can appear in post-pass all they want(especially Geno, of course), but right now for this pass, I just want more variety over anything else.

*unique, both do technically exist as clones of other characters

Heads up - I highly doubt it means much of anything - but they deleted and then re-up'd the announcement on the NintendoVS twitter. So now, instead of "Conquer the looming fear! For 5 days starting 11/29, four new spirits from the Resident Evil series are shambling onto the Spirit Board in Super #SmashBrosUltimate! Check it out!", they took out the "From the Resident Evil Series" part, and just added all the character names. What a weird change to make.

I believe they changed it so that people will know that it would only be those four characters as Spirits. When saying "new spirits from the Resident Evil series" people might thing that Nemesis would get a Spirit as well.

I only played Guilty Gear XX Reload, but I still remember how good the soundtrack was:

I've been thinking Sol had a solid chance after Terry was revealed. Sakurai mentioned crossover potential as one reason for continuing DLC. He has the ability, and we're in a unique place to witness the greatest fighting game crossover ever. Sol is a great candidate in that endeavor. Would love to see a Soul Calibur rep too. I'm excited to even hear Nightmare's name mentioned. Yoshimitsu would be amazing as well. Soul Calibur is another series with great music.

Out of nowhere, the spirits event is revealed? I guess this is the point were we go full in on overdrive with fighters and more info on what will happen with Ultimate and spirits. If Resident Evil it's a start, then we might get events like these in the future and they, chances are, mean deconfirmed status.

Again, so sudden. I guess this leaves the door open for other Capcom franchises if the company is that willing to share assets (spirits, but still).

Dante or Phoenix, attention it's in you now.

And if that bit of Fatman it's true, then Namco might be a factor as well.

Developments are happening and it's getting exciting once again.

And BTW, RIP Resident Evil rep. Time to pay respects for their respective threads.

Sol Badguy is being talked about for Smash Bros. For a week I was thinking of that character getting because ArcSystem should get a rep in Smash Bros (and that way Smash Bros could get all these famous fighting games represented). So that means that Sol Badguy ain't getting into Smash Bros just like all the others.
