I can only hope they took some of the non petty criticisms to heart. And I really hope TPC gives them more than a year to crank out another pokemon game... But they won't, not as long as it prints money annually
Agreed. I played my friend’s copy he graciously let me borrow after he finished playing, and it’s still a good time, but it just doesn’t feel anywhere close to the quality most other Switch games have.

It's still moving slower than the last few gens so it's not a total wash. The idea that it would sell under 8 figures was a pipe dream anyway so as long as it stays noticeably under sun and moon I'll call it a win.

Just please don't outsell smash, that would break my heart
If the new pokemon outsells something with as much love and care put into it as smash, then it will be a travesty... Then again, somebody thought .png files would be ample and adequate representation for fan favourites so... My sympathy in that scenario is somewhat diminished.

Breaking News: Pokémon Sword & Shield have sold 6 million copies worldwide in one week (making them the fastest grossing Nintendo Switch games).

...I'm not exactly happy with this. I want Game Freak and Nintendo to actually see complaints and take them to heart (also, that accomplishment for quickest selling should still belong to Smash). All that statistic shows is that people will just buy anything it seems. @Fatmanonice The other day I asked Nintendo's reaction to the Sword / Shield backlash, and you said you couldn't say anything yet aside from pointing out things that Nintendo has already publicly done.

Well now I'd really like to know what Nintendo and/or Game Freak think after this statistic. Because now I worry they will just be like "oh, false alarm, I guess. Pokémon is fine."
I’ll remind you: Last year, despite all the controversy surrounding it, The Last Jedi made one billion dollars. It wasn’t until the next installment released that the effect on sales was actually visible, and boy was it visible, with Solo actually bombing at the box office and early estimates for Episode 9... not actually looking all that great.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if we’re in for a similar situation here, with copies mostly being bought in droves by people not really following all this, but when they see the massive cuts in roster and the general poor craftsmanship compared to Nintendo’s other first parties(and even Let’s Go), they could very likely end up getting turned off from future releases.

I'm noting the wording "in regards to Smash, it'll be shared when I can." Which implies that they intend to leak it themselves, or at least pass the information along to others (which I still think is a Bad Idea, given that you're basically saying, publicly, "yeah I'm still leaking stuff I'm not supposed to but I'm getting other people to say it").
I see what you're saying, but I guess Sabi is okay with passing the information if she doesn't leak it herself perhaps I don't know.

I mean, it's already a good chunk of the way to Sun and Moon's overall sales already, and it hasn't even been a month.

Please, Internet, I am begging you, do not take this post as an opportunity to scream more about the Last Jedi.

“The effort put into this product is objectively less than Let’s Go” Cite that. No, really, if you’re gonna say something is an objective fact, show me.
I hope you don't consider this a cop out, but I have no interest in airing my grievances with the game in this thread. This is only like the fifth or sixth time that Pokemon has derailed "puppet man good" thread, and I would just prefer not being a part of that for too long. You have just as many resources as I do to find the cuts in quality between just LGPE and SwSh, not to mention Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. I tend to compare it to LGPE because thanks to those games, we know this isn't Gamefreak's first rodeo on the Switch, so we can't blame hardware unfamiliarity, and just to scratch the surface, thanks to the same sort of datamining that we adore here in the Smash speculation community, we know that the models in SwSh (and LGPE) are just upscaled, retextured Sun and Moon models, which were probably X/Y models. Moving to 3D in itself is a one time effort investment to allow developers to cut corners focus on other features, which The Pokemon Company chose not to do.

Actually I am curious, what is everyone’s Star Wars film ranking? And yes it is relevant to the discussion because Geno is a Star Warrior
they're all kind of bad.

I think the original trilogy were better films than the prequels but I don't know how I would order them more specifically than that.

I have only watched Episodes 1 through 7 so I'll just rank those movies:

7. Episode II: Attack of the Clones
6. Episode I: The Phantom Menace
5. Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
4. Episode VII: The Force Awakens
3. Episode IV: A New Hope
2. Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
1. Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

1. Empire strikes back
2. Return of the Jedi
3. A new hope
4. Attack of the clones
5. The force unleashed
6. Revenge of the Sith
7. A two way tie between the phantom menace and the last Jedi (I can't in good conscience call either one better than the other) (I might put phantom menace slightly above because of duel of the fates though)

My list is
10. Attack of the Clones
9. Phantom Menace
8. The Force Awakens
7. Rogue One
6. Solo
5. A New Hope
4. Empire Strikes Back
3. The Last Jedi
2. Revenge of the Sith
1. Return of the Jedi

Though my list is kinda volatile tbh and Empire seems to move up every time I watch it recently. RotJ is my absolute favorite movie of all time though

Is it bad that I was a little disappointed when rogue one had nothing to do with rogue squadron?

That kinda disappointed me too. I think the idea is supposed to be that Rogue Squadron was named after Rogue One, but I was surprised that they didn’t directly acknowledge it.

My star wars ranking:

1-10: Never seen it.

What’s with people ranking Revenge of the Sith so low? That’s my favorite and leagues better than the Disney movies.

My Star Wars ranking:
10. Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi
9. Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones
8. Solo: A Star Wars Story
7. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
6. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
5. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
4. Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
3. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
2. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
1. Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

(I think that 2,3 and 4 are pretty much interchangable, but Empire is in my top 20 movies of all time, and it's sticking there.)
(Also to anybody who hasn't seen it, the first two episodes of The Mandalorian are spectacular, and would probably go between 2 and 1 for me.)

Don't really have to explain the original trilogy and their placement for me falls in line with the fandoms generally
4. 3- I think 3 is pretty good aside from Anakin going from hesitant to murderer of children in like 30 seconds. Still good and something I enjoy
5. 7- It's not bad. It's basically 4 again but still a film you can watch
6. 2 - Pretty meh
7. 1 - I don't think I'll ever go back and watch it again
8. 8 - I get wanting to deconstruct the tropes that Star Wars was built on to make it feel fresh or surprise us with subversion but holy crap was it done badly and almost ruins 7 as a result since all the mystery built up in that movie was shown to not matter at all.

10. Last Jedi

Also if I can include both Clones Wars shows they’d be at the top of the list.

Despite the poor writing of the prequels I think the world building is incredible. It wasnt prefectly done but it set up expanded universe content very well. The sequels dont feel like an actual universe to me, though Rouge One did it decently well (though it has its own problems). Plus theyre poorly written and just feel like a retread. The old canon did the post-return of the jedi period much better. And I have a feeling Disney is about to uproot the old republic storylines too, and man that’s gonna suck

I thought it was hilarious how the Mandalorian gave me 60 minutes of a faceless character I've never seen before and STILL did Star Wars better than the Last Jedi.

I didn't see these until just now but here's tip for the future: the brush tool has had anti-aliasing built into it for a long while now, so if you want thick lines without the artifacts (if you intend to use the fill tool, that is), select the pencil tool and either use the "size" dropdown (right next to the color picker) or do the pro gamer move and hold control and tap the + or - keys on the number pad. Unless you were going for that look, then keep doing you

Nobody is consistent with their ideals, and there's definitely a non zero amount of people who bought the game to spite people who were criticizing it. (I know this because I've seen people posting about it) and at the end of the day, it's pokemon, you could play as a piece of poop and it will sell like candy coated crack based on it's pedigree alone.
I love how ****ty some people can be for doing things solely to piss others off. It just strikes me as the ultimate **** thing to do when you screw over someone else's ideals simply for the sake of doing it. In their efforts to troll the "complainers", they just told Game Freak that we would love nothing more than a continued stream of lies, half-ass games, annual releases, cheap cash-grabs, horrible graphics, terrible and temporary gimmicks, etc. Good job, morons. You've successful set the world on fire just to watch it burn. Joker would be proud.

If you could replace any character of the roster with your most wanted newcomer, who would it be?
Oh boy, here we go!

Toon Link with Vergil from Devil May Cry
Lucas with Geno
Lucina with Jet stream Sam from metal gear rising
Plant with Magnus from Kid Icarus

I think that’s actually it from me! What do you guys think?

Tangentially related to SMRPG, Source Gaming did a review on a Paper Mario-esque game called "Bug Fables". It looks really cute.

Star Wars has always been that thing that I've heard everybody talk about, everybody obsess over, but have never watched myself. I've kept up with the recent goings on regarding the newest movies via internet reviewers and commentators, most notably MauLer with his Critiques of the seuqel trilogy, as well as numerous episodes of the massively celestial EFAP podcast. Speaking of, I would highly recommend you guys check out MauLer's TLJ Critique. It's really good, albeit very long and thorough.

From what I've seen/heard from others on the subject, the best/worst list typically goes as follows:
The OT are almost always at or near the top, with Episode 5 being considered the best, 6 being the middle, and 4 being the worst of the three (Not that that's saying much). The Prequels are ususally rather low, though have been bumped up in recent years for... obvious reasons. Episode 1 is usually considered the worst, with 2 and 3 being higher rated, but nowhere near the top. The Sequels, due to their being rather new entries, find themselves all over the place, with Episode 7 often being considered either good or average depending on the person. Episode 8 on the other hand is often considered one of the worst Star Wars films of all time, and rightly so if you ask me. It's so bad that it's often considered on par with or even worse than the Prequels. Rogue 1 and Solo are typically left out due to being rather bland and forgettable, but when they show up they're either considered meh or bad.

I've considered watching the OT on several occasions, more specifically the original versions, but given the current state of the Star Wars franchise I've never been that tempted.
What a horrible day for the Geno thread

I don't care on how much you hate the new Star Wars

Comparing it to Sword and Shield is extremely disingenuous

Like, one is "bad" because "the writing"

While the other is bad is because of sheet laziness and incompetence

Also fun fact Pokemon makes so much more then Star Wars

Tfw your attempt to have a conversation on the Internet about Star Wars that isn’t people writing treatises on how much they hate The Last Jedi culminates in someone linking your a video of someone’s treatise on why they hate the Last Jedi so much.

TLJ is worse than the prequels (except for MAYBE Attack of the Clones. That cheesy romance was cringy AF).

Let me tell you about my experience with TLJ. The first time I watched it was in the theater. A couple of scenes stood out as awesome, at least in the moment, but after the movie was over and I started to think about it, I realized how dumb the majority of it was. Several months passed, and the movie eventually ended up on Netflix. I figured I'd give it another try, but after the throne room battle I just lost interest and turned it off. A couple more months went by and then I tried again. This time, I didn't even make it past the "your mama" joke at the very beginning. The acting was just horrible and the writers had to have done some really bad shrooms when they were working on it. Bottomline, I've never watched a single Star Wars I couldn't stomach until that one, and I've been a fan since I was like five. I WANT to like it, but I just can't.

Sooooooooo, anywho, how about dat Geno?
