Dang, it was nice to see all the other stuff I had forgotten about! I forgot about the Megasmilax quote.

Could Nintendo have shadow bought the rights to SMRPG? Or maybe Square is just loosening its grip a bit? This is still weird, gang.
You don't need to own or license the copyright to say a name.

So if this rumor amounts to anything it one of two scenarios

1. Nintendo and Square have shared rights and since Nintendo's big "what's a PR?" thing ATM is taking down tunes on youtube, they didn't have to list Square as well.
2. Nintendo has bought the rights to the soundtrack, or at least two of them for some unknown reason.

Which leads us into part two of the second scenario
A. Nintendo is bringing Geno back for some form of cameo role with two music tracks to go with it (Maybe in a game where superb brothers get smashes?)
B. Nintendo is getting the right back to Super Mari RPG back piece by piece.

Oh indeed, I meant all of the stuff and not just the name lol. That being said...VOLDEMOR-- *Gets struck by a bolt of energy*

EDIT: All this aside, I think the time to wait is here. I have hit a wall in trying to find the actual copyright to SMRPG's Music. (Like Chinder said earlier, people outside of the company do not need to know every single thing). So for now, time to put my detective hat away.

And it leads to showing everyone how terrible Square-Enix are at keeping things a secret. :ulthero:

Idea for the weakest case scenario of the songs being used, which is still a pretty good thing all things considered.

With the Hero, the Geno Mii costume returns and as a bonus, when you buy it adds both the songs to the Mario Tracklist.

To me nothing indicates this is anything more than Square still being willing to license SMRPG content to Nintendo, for the right price.

If Nintendo had stealth acquired the SMRPG rights, you'd think the Geno costume would be in base, along with the other Nintendo ones. And they might have included at least one track from the game.

If anyone is wondering BrawlBRSTMXs3 said: "The songs were blocked yesterday (July 12th), but Nintendo had been blocking uploads on my channel since since earlier this year (Zelda, Xenoblade, Super Mario Party, Kirby), buy they were all manually blocked. I deleted thousands of Nintendo uploads, but ended up missing some more that got blocked yesterday.

I wouldn't read much into this, since my uploads violate Nintendo's content guidelines. They're really just sending these reminders through video blocks, leaving the rest to us to remove the videos. They've refrained from actually issuing strikes."

This does not look good everybody, This does not look good.

It may not look good, but at the same time, it seems weird that Mario RPG only had 2 tracks removed rather than large playlists like the others.

So we know this isn't the result of some automated quackery... but it still feels so incredibly off to me. Why those two songs in particular? If Nintendo had manually taken down Brawl's entire playlist instead, I wouldn't have batted an eye, but... I dunno. My suspicion is raised.

I am asking them if this is the first time Nintendo has targeted his SMRPG tracks. This is the most important question.

Which is what makes "spirits deconfirm" all the more nonsensical. If they were ATs or background characters, I could buy it, but they're all images that only impact how a puppet fighter will behave in WOL, and even then some only show up on the spirit board.

A character's image doesn't suddenly decrease their likelihood, yet it does for some people. It's a given that most wouldn't be playable later down the line, but assuming that all of them aren't is just plain silly.

Sure, some will bring up "b-but every DLC character comes with a spirit board!", but as of right now that only concerns the current fighter pass.
Hasn’t the whole Spirits deconfirm been exclusively talked about in the context of the Fighter’s Pass with some exception due to the obvious trolls and bad actors? Like I think literally everything opens back up with future DLC since this whole season was planned, and I think a lot of people are more willing to open up speculation again if we get more. But that is contingent on us getting more.

Yep, it makes sense now. Nintendo has been nuking this dude’s channel for ages and removing stuff left and right. I’m sure they’ve just been slowly taking claims on everything with their titles in question. They just finally got around to the Super Mario RPG stuff, and while it’s not explicitly their content, owning Mario might suffice enough to still make the claim on the music since YouTube copyright claims are stupidly easy to make anyway. They clearly have some issue here with this specific uploaded and have been taking his stuff for some time.

Yep, this one’s deader than dirt.

BrawlBRSTguy kind of addressed this in the very same quote. Instead of issuing copyright strikes, they've manually taken down a few as a reminder to remove the rest.

EDIT: And guess what, they're all down now, "Removed by the User". Meanwhile SilvaGunner still has his BotFM up.

As much as I want this to be laid to rest, it ain't quite dead yet. Not until the uploader answers whether this is the FIRST time Nintendo has gone after SMRPG tracks of his, or he says "Oh yeah, this is like the millionth time this week!" I am content either way, but we have to know this much.

EDIT: I feel like we are in a Phoenix Wright case right now lol

Why? Even if Nintendo owns some part of the soundtrack, they still don't own Geno, nor does this appear related to Smash in any way.

But again, what does it matter that they’re going after Super Mario RPG tracks now if they’ve been gradually removing stuff for a while now. Like if there was anything remotely connectable to this music situation I’d understand, but all i see is Nintendo just continuing to remove videos from one user and eventually getting to Super Mario RPG and making claims on that.

That’s the part I still don’t understand, what does this moment in time actually mean towards anything that makes it worth paying attention to?

The only thing I can think of as to why Nintendo would claim the music is if their employees saw "Mario" and just assumed their company owned the music.

Either that or they co-own the music with Square, or they're jerks.

To answer in a very non "Geno Smash" way, I just like mysteries being solved is all :) . This is more of a "I want the answer" as a personal thing.

EDIT: EricTheGamerman EricTheGamerman Lets say the uploader responds with "Oh yeah, Square went after me before about SMRPG, but now Nintendo is." Though he never stated anything about Square before, because all he said is Nintendo has been targeting him. IF by some off chance he responds with that, THAT should raise some eyebrows! Again, I just like a good mystery. So pay me no mind on this one if you want.

If it was the entire OST being removed, I wouldn’t think twice about it, but “Beware the Forest’s Mushrooms” and “Fight Against an Armed Boss” being the two tracks does seem kinda weird but then again, YT’s copyright system/algorithm has been bonkers lately. It’s just one of those things that make you go hmm...

Let's say Geno does return to mario games. What would be the worst monkeypaw scenario where if he does return, but it's not in the way we want. For example, here's a nightmare scenario I thought of: Geno returns, but only appears in Mario mobile games like Dr Mario World.

Just so you guys actually understand this, this isn't "Oh great, look at YouTube's algorithm being an ass again!'

Nintendo SPECIFICALLY blocked both of these videos. He says that he's gotten hit before for Nintendo music, but he hasn't answered on whether this is the first time the SMRPG music got hit. Also, HE is manually taking down the rest of his SMRPG vids, not Nintendo: Nintendo only got BotFM and FAAAB.

Now if this is the first time Nintendo went after his SMRPG vids AND they only went after two? Hmm...

Also, I'm calling you out papagenos papagenos because you forgot the other SMRPG reference again!

Why does everyone forget the lil' Chewy boi?

That wouldn't be too bad. Then, at least, demand can start for him to get into other Mario Games.

To me, the monkey paw scenario would be something like the cameo in Superstar Saga returning. Or being a cameo in the next Mario and Luigi style rpg. Like his hat or something is just mentioned.

EDIT: Better yet, he is a summon of some type in the next Mario Luigi game. He is a character, but you don't have him as playable.

You say that, but I see getting Geno as a doctor as a win. And at least in stuff like that he would very likely be playable, which would increase interest among people who likely don't know the character.

I'd like the idea of a doctor outfit for the fella, but hate the idea of using him only for heavily p2w mobile games. That was my main point.

I'm certain the Phoenix thread regulars would come in handy for this one, yes. :smash:

They demonetise videos on certain channels but ignoring others, too. It's a bit of a mess. I won't say which ones, that's confidential.

Yeah, just about, though there are some reasonable people that legitimately believe the supposed deconfirmation. Until there is definite proof that the 16 WOL slots get used further, barely anyone will believe there's anything coming past the pass. Although it would be a little funny if the immediate next characters don't come with extra modes like Home Run Contest, people would feel real puzzled at that.

Phoenix Wright case? Where's Jovahexeon Joranvexeon Jovahexeon Joranvexeon when you need him?

By the way, fun headcanon: Geno's sense of humor is admittedly pretty bare bones. It's... not very refined or used to the usual wise cracks. What do I mean by this? I mean that it does not take much to destroy him with a joke. Worse yet, he comes to adore the worst, most groan-worthy kinds of them, jubilantly laughing all while his teammates are just... absolutely through.

"Haha, hey, check this one out: What's a fruit lover's favorite instrument? A limoncello. Hahaha! Clever! ... Okay, fine, fine, put those hurly gloves away."

Mario just laughs with him to not make him feel awkward. Bowser is absolutely done. Peach does the weak "hehehe..." laugh and hurries on. Mallow just doesn't get the jokes, so Geno keeps explaining them.

Also MissingGlitch MissingGlitch I was wondering when Winnie the Wright was gonna show up! (Its better than Phoenix the Pooh, personally...)

Muahahahaha, alright.

Seems an innocent enough “why” at first. With Geno and Mallow appearing in a mario and sonic at the olympic games. They are unremarkable, yet happily enough, this is the most successful game in the series and Geno and Mallow can never be denied again.

But for some reason they become identified as sonic characters. Sega latches onto this and purchases the rights.

Their next appearence is in the unique Sega/Square collaboration “sonic rpg.” The game is a buggy mess that takes place as a direct midquel to Sonic ‘06. Smithy’s gang appears and Exor develops romantic feelings for Big the Cat. Geno and Mallow also seem to act different in the sonic universe, With Geno sounding like a ‘60’s hippie who’s catch phrase is “Out of this world, man.” And is used as often as “Excuse Me Princess” in the old zelda cartoon. Because of how terrible this game is, it still becomes a cultural zeitgeist with positive sales as too many people wanted to see how bad a sonic rpg could be. Since there are positive sales, this becomes hardened canon for the characters. The sonic chronicles: the dark brotherhood rpg by bioware now becomes fondly remembered just because of how bad this game is.

And a cartoon is developed but only in conjunction to their next game (a collaberation with ubisoft): Sonic X Geno X Rabbids: Minigame Mayhem! A game that continues these terrible trends and still sells well because society is equally terrible and fell in love with the Rabbid Dating Simulator vs mode.

9/10, one point missing because there was no Froggy joke between Big and Mallow.

I love the Rabbids. Why are you trying to appeal to me?

(Not joking. I'm okay with Geno being bought out if it means more use, and if a combination with Rabbids happen, that's even better for me~)
