Here's something I just thought of that I'm not sure we discussed: what would be the name of Geno's reveal trailer? Like Rivals, Vampire Killer and so on.

Personally, I'd love it if it was just his true name.
I'd go take inspiration form the title of this thread: The Starsend Savior

Y'know Geno and Kirby have both been called "star warriors?" And they both follow plots that are essentially the same. Geno seeks to restore Star Road by finding 7 stars, and Kirby seeks to restore the Fountain of Dreams by finding 7 star rod pieces. All so everyone can Wish/Dream again. Something like that.

Geno is the Kirby of Mario is all I'm saying.

Not only that, but the Star Rod from Paper Mario is almost literally the same item from Kirby. Looks similar, has a similar function...

Maybe these dev teams are just sharing notes? A lot of notes, lol.

Hey Geno fans, I'm rooting for you now that Ridley, and King K. Rool are in, Geno is definetly one of the big characters left to be added.

Hope he gets in I'll be cheering for him and you guys.

The waiting is killing me. We have what, close to 3 months left before release?

I really hope Nintendo has another few directs soon.

Was thinking about it. Out of all of the unique characters that have been revealed with their own trailers (meaning I'm excluding Inkling), they have been done so in chronological order. Ridley was August 1986, Simon was September 1986, K. Rool was November 1994. I'm hoping this is done on purpose, because that could mean that our boy in blue could be next as he was released in March of 1996.

This is probably over-speculating, but they did do the All-Star mode in chronological order in Smash 4, so it wouldn't be the first time they've done something like this. It might also make sense because Skull Kid was revealed in April of 2001 (unless you use him in OOT). This could allow them to reveal Geno in a similar way they revealed Simon, where they can talk about him and the things included from Super Mario RPG, and then end the direct with Skull Kid. Again, probably over-thinking, but I just thought it was interesting for what it's worth!
I would imagine that Inklings were revealed first for marketing purposes, which I feel is probably the guiding principal for how the reveals are timed. Simply put, the later a character is revealed, the less mileage Nintendo can get out of them as advertisements. A fresh face like Inklings are perfect for marketing towards a broader audience and slapping on posters and such, while specific fan favorites among the inner Smash community are better utilized as later reveals in Nintendo Directs and such, when they know their target audience will be watching.

I agree with this. Splatoon was fresh in everyone's mind, so it makes perfect sense that they were revealed with the announcement of the game. That's kind of why I excluded them from my thoughts and started from E3. But yes, I 100% agree that Inklings made perfect sense for the the initial Smash announcement.

You would think if they want to beat the leaks. By Early Nov. We should know the entire roster by then.
Sakurai said they plan on revealing every fighter before release (presumably to avoid another ESRB situation). When are games usually submitted for a rating?

I believe the game already has it's official rating, so the ESRB must have access to some footage and screenshots. That being said, another ESRB leak likely would've happened by now.

Here's a question, besides Geno, is there some item or something from the Mario RPG world that you'd like to see in smash somehow?

Mallow as an assist would be the best case scenario, but if not that, maybe the Froggie Stick as an item?

To me, the best case scenario would be if Mallow AND Geno were playable

For reference, the ESRB leak was on August 19, 2014. The 3DS version came out (in Japan) on September 13, 2014. So it was less than a month. I think that means they'll want to have the last reveal ideally done by the first week of November, and mid-November at the latest.

In a perfect world, I'd love playable Mallow, but I think asking for two playable reps from Super Mario RPG is a bit much. With that in mind, I agree that playable Geno + assist or Final Smash Mallow is the best case scenario.

How about some of the actual items, like Yoshi Cookies, or how about a Bright Card that when you get it there's a casino game that pops up and you can get some random prize from it. Or how about an items that turns characters into scarecrows for a little bit?

The Yoshi Cookies would probably just function like the Bunny Hood as I can't see summonable Yoshis, but I LOVE the Scarecrow idea!

Considering we are getting a nindies this 28th and there was one back in 30th of august 2017… I think it's HIGHLY possible that we are getting one near/around the time 13th of September, just like last year.

Here a pict for you guys so you remember how we got directs last year, might be similar this time too. (replace xenoblade in november one with smash and it makes total sense too)

so the people at the ESRB know ALL now o.O We must locate one of them and force them to tell us WHO. lol of course just kidding.

Indies this tueday and probably mid september to explain online. I think we can get a reveal there. Then another full dump late october/early nov. (final smash direct) ? or who knows they might have one right before. who knows but i would imagine the other info dump will be the last i think.

Another idea I had, is a 2-part item, where you have to get the Seed, and the Fertilizer, and then a vine would appear with two boxes to hit (that anybody could get), one for the Lazy shell armor, and the other for the shell Weapon. The armor would make you take almost no damage (maybe some less knockback too) from attacks, While the Weapon would be a big shell that you can kick around that deals heavy dmg.

Culex or Smithy or Croco or Booster as boss/AT, earlier times as an item (someone mentionned it on a previous post) and Boshi as a Yoshi echo fighter.

But the best would be Jinx IMO, could be funny if his real strenght would be his ultra small hurtbox (compare to other bosses being usually big or in some case enormous like Rathalos).

Maybe there could be a Bowyer Assist Trophy that disables a button momentarily

well that kind of fits with the CSS layout they have going. It is ordered by appearance in smash bros itself but it still makes sense in a way to have them revealed in order of appearance in their games. It is a stretch i guess and could be a coincidence but it seems like the kind of thing sakurai would do,

This is a very interesting point. I would have never thought that they would be revealing the characters by their first appearance but if you stop to think about it it makes sense. That's something Sakurai would do.

That would mean that, if he's in, Geno would probably be the next character announced? Oh gosh now I'm nervous.

So in anticipation of Geno potentially making it into Smash after all these years, I've been replaying Super Mario RPG! However, this is a big deal for me because while I've played it a few times, the farthest I'd made it before was beating Punchinello, and then I'd stopped playing for a while for one reason or another, (not at all related to interest in the game,) but I never came back to it on that save file afterward. I had experienced and fallen in love with the full game nearly a decade ago with chuggaaconroy's (admittedly very dated) LP of it though, so I knew the game in full from beginning to end, but I figured after all this time, it was finally time for me to complete it from beginning to end. Currently, I've just beaten Yaridovich, so I'm getting pretty close to the ending now! This experience has been a lot of fun, but it has really allowed me to fall in love with Geno, Mallow, and the game as a whole all over again, as well as remember many little moments and pieces of dialogue I had forgotten about. The game, while overall very easy, is nevertheless a gem that has aged incredibly well, and I hope that if Geno does finally end up playable in Smash, it will lead to a younger generation of players trying it out for themselves, (if Nintendo re-releases it in some playable capacity on the Switch, of course.)

That's all I wanted to talk about, but I figured I'd leave you guys with a funny voice-acted webcomic that points out one of the game's more humorous logical failings. Since it's ProZD voice acting an Awkward Zombie comic, there's a strong chance a lot of you have seen it in some form or another, but for those of you who haven't, I figured you might appreciate it.

It's the type of thing I kind of hope I'm right, because then he may be revealed next. But if he's not the next one revealed, I REALLY hope my theory is wrong (which I probably am anyways)

Plus, the sooner he's revealed, the sooner we can enjoy the rest of the time leading up to Ultimate. Course if that's the case then if Isaac is going to be revealed after Geno, so I feel bad for the Isaac fans at that point.

But then again, the inner workings of Sakurai's mind are a mystery.

Anyone think Geno making it in would put him and Mallow back as playable characters in a game of their own?

If Geno's confirmed, I think we should do something akin to what the K. Rool fans are doing. Sending a mass of letters to Sakurai would be pretty difficult so maybe we could try to organize something where we send letters and artwork to the Nintendo headquarters of our respective continents. I also know the Geno community has really talented people like Terminal Montage so maybe even a tribute video would suffice. I dunno. The oldest among us including myself have waited 22 years for Geno to come back so I think our show of gratitude should be something notable.

Anyone else keep on getting highs and lows of Geno actually happening in Smash? Like one day your all like "Oh man, it's finally going to happen! After 12 years!" then the next "Aww...It's not going to happen, is it? Maybe he didn't do well enough on the ballot" (12 years since Brawl)

There are some people planning stuff.

I'm thinking about doing an animation, but how long it'd take me is probably longer than the time period we'll know if he's confirmed or not

I have to say, I appreciate you keeping the helm after all these years. For Smash 4, I was really pessimistic and grad school was making me miserable so I largely kept my distance to not come off as a bitter buzzkill to other Geno fans. Still, thank you for basically being the go-to Geno fan on this site for over a decade because I'm sure other stuff has been happening in your life and I know from experience that it can be exhausting being the proverbial spokesperson for a fanbase.

I agree we should do something, but let's make sure to do something of our own. The letters are good and always are good, but lets make sure the Geno fandom has there own style of thanks and celebration.

Hm...well aside from a letter of thanks, maybe one of us could make an actual Geno doll or paper geno doll?

That Comic makes me wonder, you guys ever thought about how the star road works, i know it's probably something your not supposed to think about but i still find it interesting

i thought of it as that the Star Road gives the People that wished on it more Determination to follow that wish rather then actually grant it outright

I agree. A nice thank you letter similar to what King K. Rool fans did for Sakurai via twitter. Of course it will be different but via twitter is the best way to do it.

Yes this is happening to me as well. With all that has been said and done you would want to believe that Geno is like a 100% lock but i can't get there. Im at 99.99%. There is still that .01% that can stop it from happening. Sigh.. Gonna be a long 3 months.

My big thing is people keep predicting like five more newcomers plus echoes. My thought is we only have so much time to get those characters revealed if they are all going to be done before the launch date. I guess it could make sense if we have two more directs and we can get two unique fighters in each, but we really are running out of time. I guess we could get a reveal at the Nintendo Online Direct. I just think Geno is the one character who kind of sticks out now. Ridley, K. Rool, Simon, Geno has to be in that category. I will never be 100% sure like you, but I think it would be a disservice if they neglected him after everything that has happened.
