I distinctly remember not MMing you in Melee because you were being a *** about NTSC. If you won a Melee MM (LOL) it was vs Gords.

My name's not Nathan.

I've seen this talked about before, but don't know why nothing has been done about it - why the f*** is the entry fee for a tournament taken into account for the character rankings?

All that does is show what characters are preferred in a difficult tournament setting - thus skewing the results towards being a tier list rather than a character ranking list.

Number of entrants is still important, but price of entry is harmful to the results.

The tier list doesn't show which characters are preferred in a difficult tournament setting - that would still be the ranking list.

Tier list shows which characters are good in the game, taking into account tournament results (or so they say) and excessive amounts of theorycraft.

Better characters (i.e. higher tier) are used more in a difficult tournament setting, because they give the user a better chance of winning.

I'm open to an explanation of exactly why a character ranking should reflect who is more popular, and furthermore how that differentiates it from a tier list.

IMO, the ranking list should reflect actual results, not which characters people prefer.

I think it'll only take a tournament like Rocky to get people to more carefully consider what characters they are using - the money offered is going to be far higher than what we are used to. The difference between winning and losing a finals match could cost hundreds.

1. This isn't a tier list
2. Hint: it is a popularity related list, hence why it's seasonal.
3. Read 1 and 2 over and over again.

I don't appreciate your stupidity Luke, never have, never will.

you would be a really good primary school teacher :)

i like the way this list is set up, and it seems statistically sound from the methods i've been told it uses

every 2 months this thread has the same argument, shaya goes to all the trouble to do this,

there are alternatives if you're not interested in this data, just stop *****ing plz

*Turns left*
Luke, your red hair is nothing to be ashamed about.
In fact, I'd say it is quite fetching.

The true Metagame comes out when people are playing their absolute hardest to win. Money does that, it's something very substantial to put on the line.

Vyse, I'm terrible with this kinda thing, but I'd have to say you're just all-around too goods.

No, more often the "better character" in a tournament setting is the one you're most familiar with rather than the one higher on the tier list. Have you tried using Meta Knight -- or any higher-tier character you're unfamiliar with for that matter -- rather than Samus in a tournament setting? You'll get smashed.

Tier lists do not take into account every nub top 8, tier lists are more than simply a contest of tournament mains.

I'm not talking about switching to MK for a tournament. I'm talking about changing mains because your low-tier POS can't do anything against MK.

It's kind of irrelevant anyway since shaya is keeping the current system & everyone else seems happy with it.

Every time I pick up metaknight it is refreshingly easy.

I have a lot of trouble with Liams snake when I use PT, but I 2 stock it with metaknight.

If I used metaknight in a tournament I would do at least as well as with pokemon trainer.

:)

Dangit Toby, now I have an urge to MM your MK. I don't even know why! $1 best-of-3?

Also I don't really think that changes what I was saying, there are quite a few variables to consider which is why I said "most of the time." But the point was more directed at unfamiliarity, not MK. I don't want to speak for you, so correct me if necessary, but at a guess I'd say you at least have an idea of how to play MK. Would you use him in a tournament final?

I have an idea of how to use him, because he's incredibly easy and straight forward. The familiarity concern is only a problem for players who are so bad that they can't do the basic metaknight actions that net you a victory.

I'll money match you if you want :)

edit: sam you're cool

Okie, we'll MM next time we both go to something. Gonna get *****. xP

I don't really have anything to add on the familiarity issue, although I still think using your main is generally more competitively viable than any other character. I didn't really mean to turn it into an MK debate, so I'll stop there.

I would have more confidence in my Falco than MK.

My MK is terrible. I once got 3-stocked by a Falcon whilst using MK.
