ok man, but fairy tail is your favourite favourite series, which is kinda what requires a greater perspective to judge atm

this isn't an argument for why one piece isn't amazing - it's actually the opposite, given how good it continues to be these days

do you know what it takes to keep a manga serialised this long AND keep it interesting enough to sell jaw-dropping numbers of tanks?

either go read it or stop making thinly veiled hipster jabs, it's regarded as the best shounen atm with good cause, and there's a reason people ceaselessly mock bleach and naruto, but generally steer clear of one piece (or just call it 'shounen trash', which speaks more about the person insulting one piece than the manga itself)
The only reason FT beats Ao No Exorcist it's for my favorite is because of how slow Blue exorcist is at times.the. Here t arc won't shut up about Izumo's backstory. I read the series to watch Rin to cut things to pieces, not huge ass back stories. A little development is great, but overkill much. I know huge battles against the eight demon kings are coming, but it's going too slowly.

Main character wise, Blue Exorcist stomps FT. Just a few chapters ago, Rin got put in his place by Amaimon, who is the weakest demon king.

No, I genuinely do to get why it's so popular and what people see in it.

FT is my only weekly series, most of my others are monthly.Speaking of reading, I got to catch up on iron knight.

I'm wondering what you consider to be "a little development."

Not that there's anything wrong with that, but...

the last 3 chapters have gone into her character development, there hasn't been any real action since he impure king arc, which ended in volume 8, also there are more characters in Blue exorcist that need to be fleshed out. The development of a character is always good, but I'm ready to watch the demon kings unleash hell already.
i assume you mean 'dont get'

maybe you should try, i dunno, READING IT

how can one possibly judge something if your knowledge about it is limited to the number of chapters it has, and the general premise
My phone is auto correct derping. I hate it. I've read a portion of the beginning. I'm also watching the anime on toonami every Saturday.

people say one piece starts up slow, and i tend to agree

it's not bad, it's just pretty average - once it hits baratie, it starts kicking up, and alabasta is where **** gets real

then stuff happens, then water 7, then enies lobby happens, and you're hooked

The anime is in water 7 right now. Luffy VS. Usopp ended. Worst fight ever! I wanted luffy to roflstomp Usopp.

So what you're saying is that your most recent exposure to One Piece has been the the Davy Back fight, the weakest arc in the series which the anime padded big time, and added some filler arcs afterwards.

It's no wonder why you don't understand One Piece's appeal.

He kind of did, Luffy only needed to land one punch. Though I'm not sure I understand what you consider a good fight to be if you're disappointed that Luffy struggled somewhat against one of his closest friends.

Anyways, Enies Lobby should be exactly what you want.
And believe me, we can talk **** about Bleach and Naruto for days.

My first post in this thread, because I've recently gotten into anime and manga.

On manga, I am reading Fairy Tail and Assassination Classroom, and I've also read Soul Eater entirely. As for anime, I've watched Soul Eater and Sword Art Online. Currently, I'm watching Fairy Tail.

I agree that Fairy Tail has some interesting plots, but I also agree it is bland on some aspects. I think the whole power of friendship thing could be toned down, because it gets tiresome at times. With the Tartaros arc going now, I think things gotten more interesting.

So far, Soul Eater was my favorite anime/manga series. I will be checking out some suggestions in the OP too.

I will always enjoy my FairyTail, and I am really curious how this will play out. Given Natsu's current....condition. This will be an interesting arc.

As for other series, here are some I recommend (NOTE all of these have animes)

Ao No Exorcist (Blue Exorcist outside Japan)- good story, the anime follows the manga pretty well, episodes around 14-15 is where they caught up to the manga, and they made up an ending. Its a good series. The manga is going monthly in shonen jump.

Death Note- a seriously cool series, one of my personal top 10's. It's a large scale mental battle between highschool student Light Yagami and a mysterious detective, L. It's a fun ride full of twists and turns, and the artwork is amazing.

Bakuman- by the creators of death note, this series shows the backgrounds and inner workings of being a mangaka, and has a nice love story to boot.

FullMetal Alchemist: Aweosme series, I've read up to volume 6 of the manga,(borrowed from friend), artwork is good, and the story is superb. (If you're going to watch the anime, watch Britherhood, it's superior to the original anime in every way)

Soul Eater Not!: a prequel to the events of soul eater, it follows a young weapon who is just joining the DWMA, and is getting use to life there.(Anime is confirmed; no release date, but the animation team behind soul eater will be doing it)

~Fairy Tail's anime is returning in April. We assume they will continue where it ended in march 2013.

i thought they specifically confirmed they weren't just picking up where they ended last year

whatever, not like i watch it \o/
No, they've confirmed little about it. But the images they've released showing the new look specifically shows Fairy Tail's grand magic games team, in grand magic games clothes, as well as the teams from all other participating guilds.
image.jpg

Th director and story writer are the same, from what we know, the art director is the only head guy changed. A-1 pictures is going to partner with bridge rather than satellite.

See this:http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2014/01/07/site-for-new-fairy-tail-anime-launches

The fact the images depict the grand magic games' teams could mean exact continuation. It wouldn't make sense to start back somewhere else, they have source material to follow after all.

As of right now, they are keeping further details under wraps, but the announcement does heavily allude to the fact that the series may not begin exactly where it left off, i.e., in the middle of the Grand Magic Games.

so yeah i dont really know, but i also dont really care :happysheep:

The article you got that from is older. It was posted in late December, and the website and images were posted early January. I think the fact that all their artwork depicting the grand magic games is a very good sign. The image that I posted above is from the /official/ site, and it clearly had fairytail A-team uniform. The way I see it now, it could go either way on where they start

I should really give Bakuman another try. I watched season 1 and while I didn't think it was the best, I generally enjoyed it. For whatever reason, I couldn't get into season 2 at all. Each episode felt like a pain to watch and I gave up after like 4 episodes.

My friend annoys me so much...

I was telling him about fairytail (he tried to get me to watch darker than black, I hated it) I told him the solution to evil future rogue, and he went on and on about how destroying the portal through time would create an alternate universe. He said "The bad guy is still there, they just created a parallel timeline where that are alive"

He doesn't get that time couldn't fix itself. That they watched all the dragons disappear. That they were still standing in the wreckage in the end.

I know there is a theory on how every decision you make results in a parallel universe where the opposite decision was made, but that is only a theory (A GAME THEORY!) and hasn't been proven.

I can't discuss anime with him, that's why I'm here, he too technical

Anyone else have a friend like that?

I can't believe you hated Darker Than Black. I could understand if you disliked the show's second iteration, Gemini of the Meteor, but the first one...?

As I told my friend, it just wasn't my thing. I am already waiting for iron knight to have an anime, but it won't happen for a long time.

Thanks for reminding me of Darker Than Black, I need to rewatch the first season. I remember really enjoying it, then the second season happened, I never even finished that.
I don't like that I remember more about the second season than the first now, that needs to be fixed.

I've seen season 1 with my friend recently. It was alright. Definitely wasn't my cup of tea, I wasn't very fond of the characters and the only respite for me were that detective and his assistant that sounded suspiciously like Asuka from NGE.

I had no idea iron knight was weekly, and that it was running in shonen jump! 5 chapters, really good story so far, good art. I'm looking forward to more. People say its comparable to attack on Titan.

Knowing me, it'll get axed after 10-15 chapters JUST because the universe hates me. It is really cool, I hope it does well.

I think I should post here as I've recently gotten into watching anime.

I've watched Cardcaptors, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and Lucky Star. Enjoyed all of them, especially TMoHS.
Watching Honey and Clover now.

As for manga, the only manga I've read a lot is Pokémon Adventures. Though I'm reading Watamote.

Soul eater is a good anime/manga for people just getting in, as is fullmetal alchemist:brotherhood. Check out sword art online as well, only the first 13 episodes are good

I'll those in mind, thanks.
If you're gonna watch the Soul Eater anime, read the manga too. The story diverges at a certain point, with the manga being longer and resolving certain plot points that are left unanswered in the anime adaptation. The English dub is actually quite good, in my opinion.

As for Sword Art Online, I have watched it and liked it, but I don't think it is that good as some people make it seem to be, but it's not bad.

I also recommend the manga Assassination Classroom.

Hahaha. Black Lagoon is coming to Toonami in March, can't wait to watch it again.
The dialogue is going to be full of bleeps, it's going to be wonderful. I'm so damn hyped for this.

And to make it better, soon that horrid show SAO will be gone, Toonami's future is looking good, just need to lose Bleach.

Bleeps? If you're referring to censoring anything, toonami never censors anything unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary. As far as replacing SAO, I believe Blue Exorcist is going to take it's time slot.

I think Black Lagoon will replace Soul Eater, as it is in the final episodes now. There are 7 more episodes if I am correct, which would end it in march.

I am just waiting for Funimation to dub Attack On Titan, that series is destined to end up on Toonami one day. I would be MORE than happy if it replaced Bleach. I finished it in sub, and it is absolutely fantastic. (dat intro 10/10)

I just want FLCL do freaking end already, I hate that series with all of my heart Q.Q
