This is probably my last tournament for the year, because December will have all kinds of nasty finals and other stuff for me to deal with. So this is going to be a heck of a lot more ambitious than the last two.

WE NEED CONSOLES AND COPIES OF THE GAMES.

-PS3's
-PS2's
-Dreamcasts
-Wii's

IF YOU CAN BRING AN EXTRA TV, THAT TOO IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. If people want their matches recorded please bring equipment.

And while it's usually obvious: BRING YOUR OWN CONTROLLER! I CAN'T BRING A CONTROLLER FOR YOU! (Okay, maybe a few loaners.....) but please seriously bring it. It holds up the tournament if you have to constantly borrow someone's controller or someone else has loaned it out.

Where:

Gamelot
7007 Bandera Rd
San Antonio, TX
(At Bandera and Huebner on the corner with the Church's Chicken.)
210-684-0101

Events:

Doors open at 12:00 pm. You may register as soon as you get there, up until the start of an event. The first event will begin at 2:00 pm. (Again, 210-684-0101, if you are running late.)

Super Smash Bros Brawl 2 pm
Soul Calibur IV 3 pm
Third Strike 4pm
Guilty Gear Accent Core 4:30 pm
Tekken 5DR 5 pm or after Soul Calibur IV finishes
Marvel vs Capcom 2 5pm

The schedule is currently under development. Final Schedule to be posted at a later time.

Entry Fees:

Venue Fee: $5 for a wristband. You will need this to be allowed into the tournament area.

Each game will be $10.00 to enter.

To make it simple:
One game is $15, two is $25, and so on.

Prize Layout:

All events will pay out as such:

1st: 70%
2nd: 20%
3rd: 10%

General Rules:

Double Elimination
Rounds: 3/5 (2/3 for 3rd Strike)
Best 2/3 matches
Finals (Winners, Losers) will be best 3/5 matches
Grand Finals are best 4/7 matches

Pausing will result in the loss of a round unless the opponent lets it slide.

All button changes MUST BE DONE before the rounds begin. Binding is allowed, macros and other controller enhancements are banned.

If any rules are broken, you should report WHEN IT HAPPENS, not after the fact.

Game Specific Rules:

***Soul Calibur IV***

There will be both Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles available. If both players wish to play their match on Xbox 360, that is fine. However, PS3 is the nationals standard, therefore it will have priority when two players argue over what machine to play on. (Besides, it's no secret the 360 controller just plain isn't that good for fighting games)

Banned Characters:
Guest Characters, Custom characters (Color/costume edits are still allowed), Algol and Yoda/Darth Vader are banned from use in the tournament.

First match can opt for a blind pick, first stage is random.
Winner stays character.
Loser can change character and pick a stage if he/she desires.

All infinites/glitches are banned.

***Marvel vs Capcom 2***
You may not use any glitch that prevents the game from being played. This includes game freezing, game resetting, player freezing, etc.
Deadbody infinites are allowed to gain a positional advantage, but not to delay the game.
Button switching during the loading screen is allowed (e.g. Holding ASSIST 1 to switch your first assist with the point).
You may not use the same character twice on one team.
Winner keeps the same team, while the loser can switch teams.

***Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike***
Winning player must keep the same character, but can change super art's. The losing player can choose a new character.
Gill is banned in tournament play.
JUDGEMENT will NOT be used to determine the outcome of a match if it should so come up. That match will be played over again until a true
winner is determined.

***Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection***
If the players do not agree on a stage within 15 seconds the match judge will enforce blind random stage select.
Jinpachi is banned from tournament play.

***Guilty Gear XX: Accent Core***
#Reloaded characters, Kliff and Justice are not allowed in tournament play.
Use of EX, Gold and Shadow characters are not allowed in tournament play.
Winner keeps the same character and the loser can change characters.

***Super Smash Bros Brawl***l

Everything else is banned.

No items
Time Limit: 7 minutes

At the beginning of a match players can opt for a double blind pick.

Each player can strike one non random stage.

At the start of the first round, players flip a coin. Players then take turns to elminate stages one by one until there is only one remaining. The remaining stage will be used.

After the first round the loser picks the stage, the winner decides what character he will play and then the loser will pick their character and the next round will begin.

ALL Stall tactics such as MetaKnight's Infinite Dimensional Cape glitch are banned, unless they are for recovery purposes.

Post if you're coming, give me feedback, let me know if you can bring stuff, and if you want to stay in tune with any other tournaments I'm making, add me at myspace.com/kyletheband. I'm also on facebook: Kyle McClusky

Interesting considering Gamelot 2 Brawl tournament was a first for me this year as Geoberos ("Beros"). Should be able to make this one for more experience.

No melee? :(
Oh you and your wavedashing and l-canceling and all that jazz.

I should really start playing again with Jiggz in Melee tournaments. I mean, she can pwn without using either :p

Besides, playing Caveman again after so long sounds pretty fun.

3S noobs...

of course Gill is banned
actually ive seen local tournies with gill in...this aint evo

he's not has bad as jinpachi in tekken 5

Yup.... more importantly is everyone in favor of banning MetaKnight so that Espy stands a chance of getting first?

So espy stands a chance? no so everyone else stands a chance without having to use mk themselves just to counter mk.

Yeah... lets the be odd man out and alienate ourselves even more from the rest of the country... as it is most of the non Texas smash community thinks that Texas is the worst brawl state and full of noobs (Azen and M2K think we're decent now) Neither east or west coast is banning MK yet and SBR hasn't either. Plus if we do it now we'll suck anytime anyone from Texas travels to another state as they'll simply get ***** by all the MKs which they won't have had any practice against.
I'm all for banning the character once everyone else does and it's official but until then it simply seems like a bad idea.
Not that I'm planning on going to any tournies or anything, simply speaking from a logical perspective.

On a side note I want to play this melee 2.0, does anyone have it? How can I get it? (I do hear MK should be banned in melee 2.0 though, is this true?)

Edit: and as far as the reason so Espy can win a tourney... There were plenty of ways for him to have beaten DMK. Espy simply lacks practice against human MK opponents, it's one of the costs of only playing against computers and scrubs. No I won't list how to get around it as I want to punish his scrubbiness with the cheesiest tactics I can if I ever play him again =P. Not to mention he's playing Sonic... vs MK the best character in the game... there is nothing stopping him from picking another character. No he doesn't have to pick MK just to fight MK... people continuously beat MK with non MK characters.

Those can't be very serious tournaments.

Not only is Gill the final boss, you can't play him in the arcade version. That's usually an auto ban.

And he's far and away the best character. A super that does 25% on chip? Hits everywhere? Can't be parried? Several infinites? Yeah that's not broken at aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall.

I played Melee 2.0. it's hard to wavedash because it's not quite the same, plus there's the issue of no light shield and having to fully hit the trigger down. My friend Chester got it on his wii, and if you go to Brawl discussion there is plenty of info on how to get the homebrew going. It needs an sd card and Twilight Princess.

I don't even play 3S too often, and even I know that Gill is banned.

Also, since when were we the first to ban MK in a tournament Kite? NM, Louisiana, and several other tournaments ran in other states have also banned MK at least once. Why not give it a shot?

You're just saying it cuz you want the money, since you'll spam b like no tomorrow if we play again. :p

I'd like to see you try to find a way around nado with Sonic, Kite. I know what can and cannot go through nado; For Sonic, ONLY fsmash (which has pre-lag startup and lag cool down, and WON'T connect unless the fist touches MK) can eat through it, and it's almost impossible to approach from above it when you play someone who KNOWS how to space it. He can't even use his speed because by the time he gets to MK, if the MK properly landed he gets almost no lag and can retaliate almost immediately.

We won't suck against MKs if we ban them from tournament play. Most people develop their abilities in friendlies as well, where MK is free game. It wouldn't be too hard to ask someone, "Hey, wanna play friendlies? I need MK practice."

The fact that playing a character like MK to win is enough for me NOT to play him, as from my perspective, playing MK is lame, regardless of the excuse. Yes, it nets you the wins and the money, but it's never NOT lame.

MK fanboys are the worst, btw.

I lol'd.

Funny thing though, except for that one match on RC with Hylian back in September, I've been knocked out of the winners/losers bracket of every tournament I've been to by a Meta Knight.

4 out of 5 times. Srsly, that's hysterical.

Anyways, I also am in favor of a ban on MK for this tournament. It should be more interesting to see what characters can get to the top that aren't named MK.

*disclaimer, a good portion of this post will just be a repeat/rewording of what I said in my last post because people tend to have selective reading and skip over what was already said because it then voids their argument, or will be useless rambling so feel free to skip reading it*

I never said we were the first. The point I was making is that the majority of the smash community and the regions that matter 'east and west coast' and the 'so called' elite(backroomies) do not yet ban MK. Once you ban a character it is much more difficult to unban it. Not to mention that other places that do not have a ban on said character may think badly of / not go to said tourney with it's 'house rules'. Also once a character is banned it becomes much less rare that said character will be played in friendlies at all as it is 'cheap'.

Yes if I played you again for money I would use your weaknesses against you, but that just seems like common sense to me. But again I'm not saying this because it's a character I play or because I want money as I doubt I would even be at a brawl tourney seeing as I still don't really play the game (though I do like the idea of going for melee friendlies), but for the reasons I have already presented twice.

What you know are the things you have thought of, by no means do you know all the possibilities in the Sonic vs MK matchup. I watched you play DMK at the tourney and even saw a couple of the youtube vids and played you myself, there is more you could have done. The matches with DMK were close enough that had you known more / had more experience I believe you would have won, but you can simply be pessimistic and think it's impossible to beat a B spamming MK with Sonic all you want and not bother trying to figure out how to get better if you wish. This is not to say that MK is not >>>> Sonic but that there were ways for you to have won vs DMK, against a MK like say Dojo or Infinity I would not know as I've only see the matches at that last Gamelot.

As far as playing MK himself, he's fast and semi fun to play as. Brawl in general for me is a bit boring after a few matches. Not that it's not competative it simply seems like it doesn't have things to practice or work towards or try to pull off with enough frequency to allow me to play for long periods of time. Even a game like 3S I could probably play awhile because I still need to learn to pull off specials regularly or parry regularly, there are things to 'try' to do in a certain sense. Melee I can try to pull off a cool combo and L canceling/wavedashing/dash dancing gives the game a good pace. GG is awesome and has most stuff. Brawl on the other hand is slow for my taste... low tech skill requirements and is all spaceing / outthinking (not saying this is bad, but not what I look for in a video game) MK has some cool tricks I liked and is fast so he was kinda fun to play, though once I got the basics down it got boring a little. Fox, also, is kinda fun for me since he's still fashish. Again I have no problem with MK being banned but logicially speaking I think it's better to do once the majority of the community as whole decides to do it.

If I want a pure strategy game I'll play Go. When I play a video game I like there to be the strategy which makes the game competative but also a competant and ever improving level of tech skill which also adds to the competativeness and allows many differnt levels of play, games like Melee and Starcraft.

Side note I still don't mind playing brawl some with other people, it's decently fun and is skill based, I just can't play it for anything near a long period of time.

*end semi on topic mostly off topic rant*

Okay, here we go... :psycho:

*disclaimer, a good portion of this post will just be a repeat/rewording of what I said in my last post because people tend to have selective reading and skip over what was already said because it then voids their argument, or will be useless rambling so feel free to skip reading it*
I hope you're not implying anything, or I might have to spite you.

I never said we were the first. The point I was making is that the majority of the smash community and the regions that matter 'east and west coast' and the 'so called' elite(backroomies) do not yet ban MK. Once you ban a character it is much more difficult to unban it. Also once a character is banned it becomes much less rare that said character will be played in friendlies at all as it is 'cheap'.
This entire piece is completely subjective to any change. The east/west coast aren't Caesar, and the broomers have been discussing the topic consistently, not to mention that there are now three hot topic threads in Tactical Discussion which are all pretty much discussing the same issue.

Can you please elaborate on how "difficult" it is to unban a character? I don't see why it's such a gutwrenching decision to say "okay, bring MK back".

Some players from other regions can also, on the other side of the coin, be attracted to other regions tournaments due to the 'house rules'. These people would also think highly of that region for taking that action.

As for the bolded statement, I won't even touch. It's to silly to take seriously.

Play to win...for money. No one likes physically unrewarding wins.
:psycho:If you don't realize that that was a joke, then there's no hope for you...

What you know are the things you have thought of, by no means do you know all the possibilities in the Sonic vs MK matchup.
Let me correct myself then: At the moment, there is only one semi-consistent way to stop the 'nado, and that's f-smash through it, which I discussed before.

And of course I don't know the Sonic vs. MK matchup perfectly, so don't stay something so silly.

There definately was something more I could've done. It's a simple lack of experience, something I'm personally already aware of. I'm pretty **** sure you're aware of the difference between knowing what to do, and the application.

I had difficulty in applying my counters, and because of that, I had a rough time with 'nado. The fact that nothing can really be done as Sonic v. MK's nado doesn't help either.

I'm a pessimist by nature because it pleases me more when I win the match. It also helps me focus on abusing the opponents weak points. Oh wait, MK doesn't have any weak points, does he? :p

Also, again you say silly stuff. Of course spammy MKs are beatable. I mean, I did beat him a few times, didn't I? Quit saying goofy things.

This is not to say that MK is not >>>> Sonic but that there were ways for you to have won vs DMK, against a MK like say Dojo or Infinity I would not know as I've only see the matches at that last Gamelot.
Definately. Infact, I almost DID win.

I played Infinity at Lee's tournament over the weekend. It's much more difficult, if not impossible, to beat a competent MK.

I'd choose spammy MKs like DMK over good MKs like Infinity any day of the week, personally. That, and I almost beat Infinity in one round (I don't care if he was/was not sandbagging), so again, it isn't impossible.

It's just so absurdly improbable that it might as well be impossible.

As far as playing MK himself, he's fast and semi fun to play as. Brawl in general for me is a bit boring after a few matches. Not that it's not competative it simply seems like it doesn't have things to practice or work towards or try to pull off with enough frequency to allow me to play for long periods of time.
Well, you play MK...he doesn't really need anything that isn't basic to be good. :p

Fox, also, is kinda fun for me since he's still fashish. Again I have no problem with MK being banned but logicially speaking I think it's better to do once the majority of the community as whole decides to do it.
Every game has somewhat unlimited technical skill and such, even Brawl. It's just that you play Meta Knight, so you really don't have to worry too much about it. :p

Personally, I now prefer Brawl > Melee. It's so much more fun to me.

Side note I still don't mind playing brawl some with other people, it's decently fun and is skill based, I just can't play it for anything near a long period of time.
I'm going to abuse the living crap out of this if I play you again.

Let's pretend I quoted =P
You have much patience, I'm impressed =)
I don't know how to eaisily separate the quotes thing aside from recopy/pasting the quote thing to every section and I'm just to lazy for that... But If you can tell me an easy way to do it I'll be happy to reply to everything ^_-

A couple things though. Saying that an argument is silly or bad without providing good reason why, itself is a bad argument. Second, I don't understand what you mean abuse the crap out of? To warn you probably the next time we play will simply be for fun. When I play for fun I hardly ever use meta unless people specifically ask me to and even then I don't play really gay since I'm not so much playing to win. I normally just go through most of the cast not using the same char twice... when I do use the same one twice I've probably been bored for awhile.

As much as I can........

Tekken players have a bad view of Gamelot thanks to a tournament that happened ages ago, and Guilty Gear is somewhat of a niche game.

I hope at the very least Marvel gets a good turnout like it did the last time I had one.

1st Bolded: Thanksies. I'm trying to apply that patience to my game...
2nd Bolded: The first time I said your statement was silly was because your statement was just subjective to your viewpoint. The second time I said your statement was silly was because it's obvious that I don't know the Sonic v. MK matchup perfectly.

I would've won v. DMK if I did. =P

And what I meant by "abuse the crap out of":

Next time we play IN TOURNAMENT (that's what I meant, but didn't specify), I'm going to abuse the fact that you can't play Brawl for long periods of time. Of course, it was a half serious/half joke jest at best.

We should definately have friendlies, of course. You should play my Jiggz.

-----

Can't wait for this tournament. I can't play MvC2 without being scrubtastic, but I can play the other games at a moderate level.

lol

Brawl: Sonic
3S: Ibuki
GG: Baiken
Tekken: King
MvC2: uh....?

i JUST realized there's no melee at this ;_;

and btw people who only come for "melee friendlies" suck! You want to play the game (rightfully so, because it's AWESOME :)) but you dont want to support the dying melee community by paying the entree fee...so you bum off us by taking up one of our two melee setups...ones that we need to practice for our tournament matches : / just annoys me!

i JUST realized there's no melee at this ;_;

and btw people who only come for "melee friendlies" suck! You want to play the game (rightfully so, because it's AWESOME :)) but you dont want to support the dying melee community by paying the entree fee...so you bum off us by taking up one of our two melee setups...ones that we need to practice for our tournament matches : / just annoys me!
So? Learn to player.

Word up peeps: If you guys can bring at least 3 full set ups for Melee I think I may allow it as a side tournament. Side as in I don't to have to worry about running it. I'm pretty sure that Taylor or Kal could handle.

I really would like to add Melee but I'm only one man.

But you didn't even enter Melee the last time you came to San Antonio >.>
Uh, Yes I did. I played all Falco (Well..one match fox but I lost that match lol)

I've never been to a tournament with Melee and not entered it.

As much as I can........

Tekken players have a bad view of Gamelot thanks to a tournament that happened ages ago, and Guilty Gear is somewhat of a niche game.

I hope at the very least Marvel gets a good turnout like it did the last time I had one.
lol why? wat happen with tekken?

SCHEDULE UPDATED!

Super Smash Bros Brawl 2 pm
Soul Calibur IV 3 pm
Third Strike 4pm
Guilty Gear Accent Core 4:30 pm
Tekken 5DR 5 pm or after Soul Calibur IV finishes
Marvel vs Capcom 2 5pm

Taylor, you can run Melee at any time you please, Preferably in the evening, around 5 or later because some people will have left or began to have left by then. Also I'm think I would have you in the backroom, because it's more space and it would be kept alongside the Brawl. But don't take my word on that, it depends on what happens.

Tell me what time you want and I'll add Melee as a side tournament to the first post.
