btw matt u should delete, not deactivate ur fb, if you're a real man, cuz if u don't i bet you come back
It was never intended to be permanent, it was just to see if facebook was the root of my time management problems. However, I've learned it's not, because I've been wasting about as much time as usual, just on other things. The one thing I've learned is that I can't just try to get rid of all distractions because there are too many, I just have to get in the habit of being productive regardless of the things around me.

to add what fly said lately tournaments are either near LA or in irvine, about an hour's drive apart. s2j/lovage/wes are closer to the LA area, while Zhu/Macd/Connor are in Irvine and Eddy in Mexico. Fly is really the only one of our top players from Irvine that goes to the near LA tournies lately.

So yeah location and traveling and stuff. I too would like to see s2j vs zhu, hopefully itll happen eventually..
Lol. An hour is a lot of time in SoCal. In Arizona, we do 2 hour drives for tournies no problem. :(

but cutting out one distraction is good even if you do replace it with others. i think throwing your hands up and going back to fb would be defeatist.

i realized yesterday i'm doing the same thing, replacing fb with smash boards. but that's still a good thing. one, i cut out one time sink. two, cutting that out helped me become aware of the fact that i'm replacing it with another time sink. the mere fact of being aware is a revolutionary act.

for me i'm learning that the higher my homeostasis energy, the less appealing distractions are to me. simply (not to be confused with "easily") raising my energy has given me the power to almost effortlessly conquer previous demons (for example: eating out and smoking weed), while before when i would try to tackle the symptoms (bad habits) without addressing the root (low energy) i would always get really depressed and lose willpower after 2-3 weeks.

dude fb is straight azzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

nothing gives me lower self esteem
and everybody's on it, too

i hate it when people DO things for the sole purpose of posting pics/statuses about it on facebook

since deactivating my facebook i still get distracted by lots of other things (pokemon puzzle league, other things on computer [just recently decided to super commit to not jerkin it])

but i figure at least now it's all out in the open. previously all that unhappiness would have gone straight to my web browser, and dissolved in a haze of vaguely entertaining, ephemeral distractions. now that the noise is gone it's like, "wow, i can't believe all this was underneath."

don't have to keep up appearances for SH*T anymore, which is nice. i don't feel obligated to go here or there or keep up with the zillions of people i met thru fb groups for smash, climbing, slacklining, whatever

the onus is on me to figure out what i like and don't like, who i want to be, and what i want to do.
it's really scary, honestly. i *think* it's worth it though. i have to be a lot more disciplined; willpower, for the strength to carry through with the important things, and self control, to pass wasteful opportunities by.

my 2 cents ;]
can't wait to see yall

Since we're on the topic of life-improving ****, i think you gotta hear thisfrom someone man. Daniel, as a friend I highly recommend you start following a work out routine. After seeing hugo go from being chub chub to what he is now, i believe you can do the same with dedication. Honestly, a bit of consistency will take you a long way. You'll lool better, feel better and be healthier. Buy yourself a nice pair of running shoes and gradually start doing distance running and other cardio. Also try and watch what you eat more. I suggest you talk to Adam about that stuff since he seems really knowledgeable about a good diet. Really generally, what I'd recommend is avoiding fried food.

Being productive all the time seems like such a gigantic effort. I'm pretty happy about how efficient I am on a daily basis but making the most of my time gets harder and harder as I cut out the fat. It's to the point where I feel like I NEED at least some time to screw around on the Internet.

that's because you do need time to spend on fun

dave went through phases of "OMG I QUIT ALL VIDEOGAMES AND FACEBOOK AND HAVE TO BE PRODUCTIVE 100% OF THE TIME" you just gotta learn how to not overdo the fun or waste time doing literally nothing on the internet. so people just try and have hobbies they personally feel are productive and fun.

some people like reading, some like making things (sewing, woodwork, etc), some like cooking, some like gardening, some like work on cars, some like videogames, etc. I'm sure there are people who can give arguments for why all those things are either a waste of time or productive in some way.

also don't be too hard on yourself. life is all about balance. you have to find yours. all work and you go crazy, all play and you can survive in the world. some people like keeping busy with work, some like having extra fun time.

uhhhh, yea i feel like this is probably just a jumbled mess but my brain gave up, guess it's bedtime

yea matt thanks for that, its been something that ive had to deal with/think about for a while. as dumb as this sounds school really takes up a **** ton of my time, and its hard to find/dedicate parts of my day for stuff like that (as much as i should do it). duly noted, however, and its something i will work towards. (i have some ideas for the coming months and we'll see how it goes...problem is is that i need the discipline)

No matter how much work you have you can always spend at least 20 minutes running or something, the hardest part is starting it

I've been running recently it's not consistent at all but it gets really easy to do after you've done it like 3 times and also I don't do it if I don't have my music it just gets too boring for me

I don't think anything is a waste of time but being able to prioritize is freakin essential and I am not going to procrastinate when school starts a week later, ya heard it here

it is.

but only if you look at the big picture.

you can't live your life but one second at a time. i don't concern myself so much with being "productive," whatever that means, but with being aware and mindful. the rest sorts itself out magnificently.

(i have some ideas for the coming months and we'll see how it goes...problem is is that i need the discipline)

just goes to show you everything american culture preaches is the exact opposite of what you should really be doing if you want peace and health
ya i like this, american culture is pretty bad for you

nothing gives me lower self esteem

theres actually a new "disorder" called facebook depression

it hits teens and they are all sad bc everyone else looks like they're having a good time except them

the no jacking off thing sounds like extreme bull**** but im doing that right now and i already feel huge benefits, biggest thing is that everything is now seen in a positive light, like i just feel like going out and getting things done, i get more excited/interested about things and can focus on them for longer periods than before. also i feel everything much better, my senses are more aware. i feel the wind across my arms, i see every tree, i notice a LOT of details i never saw before in places i go to all the time. it's hard to explain without sounding poetic but it's amazing. havent felt any big testosterone rush yet, will see what happens =)

and ya it could be placebo.. but honestly if it works i don't really care

also im not wasting time watching porn anymore

June 9th is definitely on a Saturday

unless you meant your final is on Monday, which would make a lot more sense.

Both actually! Thanks for reminding me that Saturday finals actually exist. I have a physics final from 8-11 am on saturday the 9th (UCR suxxxxxx).

If this tournament does happen I'll just get someone to hold down the fort for me if I'm late (which I probably will be).

I have some slightly inconvenient news if you want to get the VDC dining room as the venue again.

I will probably have a conflict on June 9, and given the past situations, I will probably be required to be present at the venue if I am to be the main person to rent out the room. We'll probably need Anthony Zhu to take that role instead if he's up to it.

Why is it that we're able to finish Melee Doubles, Melee Singles, Brawl Doubles, Brawl Singles, Project: M Singles by midnight then? :(

Can't we just be super strict on stuff?

Alternatively: Crew Battle...Fly and I vs. the world in Project: M.
