Onett should always be banned >_>

How come the South EVO wasn't mentioned in the first post? Isn't it the first one and like the qualifiers or something in Texas?

Yo Cort. You gonna show at the CT one?

Lance and I plan to attend the CT East Qualifer. Any chance of us getting housing? ^_^

We'll see what happens when the time comes around. There's a few CTers that could offer housing..

Wow, I'm really elated to hear this news. I've been a fan of the SRK community/ EVO for a while and obviously I love Smash at least equally so. I'm glad that this community has a rare opportunity to represent at such an acclaimed event.

BTW, what's this I hear about MLG dropping Smash? That wouldn't be cool, but then again, I hear people being on the MLG pro circuit is what lowered SSBM's credibility in some players eyes.

Well, regardless, I hope this turns out nicely.

They are. In Austin during the SXSW Festival. Idk why they aren't listing it. And Hank, if everyone could just use an AR and magically make that lame edge not be a problem anymore, then great, but you need to enter the real world.

It's not listed on the main post here because the south tournament wasn't announced until after topic creator made this thread.

Question.

So whoever wins the SSBM Tournament at EVO - are they considered the newest "World Champion" of Smash? Because EVO is partaken globally, so basically, the cream of the crop will arrive from Europe, Japan, USA, etc., and not necessarily those that have had access to MLG Tournaments in the past.

Who knows, maybe Daigo will rip up the entire scene, and shake the entire SSBM community to its core. Would love to see that happen, as it means a huge burst in players absolutely perfecting their game for future EVO Tournaments, if it happens. *crosses fingers*

I don't know if "the cream of the crop" from Japan/Europe would be able to come for an EVO but there's always a chance. A lot of them couldn't even attend FC6/OC2 because of money most likely or work in some cases. So if they can get the money somehow then it would raise their chances.

Yup, that's what comes to most people's minds when they think of Evo. I went and watched that clip on YouTube as soon as I had heard that Smash was announced for Evo.

Can anyone make a thread with every date for the major tourneys this year? Its a good idea and could help people organize their big tournaments.

EVOSouth Registration

EVOSouth has begun registrations. Registration is free, but there is an entry free of $10, which is still a pretty good deal for a chance at $1000. Plus, they have the Mario Golf Challenge. If you can make a hole-in-one on the course that they have set up, you get a whopping $10,000! From what I remember, NOBODY got it last year. Go register now! :)

I'm confused about prizes. Which is it, $1000 or a percentage of entry fees? The website makes it seem like it is just a percentage.

my impression now is that it's a percentage, with $1000 guaranteed (for South at least, since it's sponsored by toyota)

Wait, scratch the registration part. Looks like they took registrations down. I guess they're still messing around with it.

about 30 japanese came last year for EVO world finals for fighting games, and I'm sure effort will be made to get them to come for smash. Japan year last won GGXX/, 3S, and CvS2. Expect them to be back in full force in those games as well as a new game, VF5.
So champions are pretty much world champs. Only thing better for fighters is to win Super Battle Opera in Japan.

Yup, that's what comes to most people's minds when they think of Evo. I went and watched that clip on YouTube as soon as I had heard that Smash was announced for Evo.
That clip tripled the popularity of 3rd strike. Unfortunately, It also presented the fallacy that parrying everything is a good thing, Daigo only parried b/c he HAD to, he would have died from chip damage if he blocked the super.

Free registrtion for the tourneys themselves, 10$ "door fee" it seems like. All games have 1000$ prize "Pool". Which probably means 700/ 200/ 100, unless they dole out more places.

Austin is an exception for many things, due to sponsor involvement in SXSW.

Even if the prizers arent MLG calibur its aight. This will be a good experience no matter what , u gotta remember when mlg started with smash the prizes were extremely low too even tho they got ridiculously high in 3 seasons . Either way imma try to attend them all.

Renegade do u think teams would be included? or will it just be singles >_>

I am well aware of this. Altho I suck at pretty much every game other than smash, I have kept up somewhat with many goings on with most traditional fighters, and I know at the very least the basics of most games, or at least enough to know what's going on in vids.
I do appreciate your input tho. :)

PC, you say you're going to try to make it to all of them? that includes South? If so I am going to house you. You have no choice in the matter.
