This is important -

Now that smash is featured for EVO, I think it's important that we start discussing smash on shoryuken.com

Like, take this topic for example:

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=126505

Some are slightly wary about adding smash because they don't see many topics asking for it. The problem is, of course, the fact that smash has smashboards and "the rest" of the fighting games have shoryuken.

I think it's important that people show their support for smash on the shoryuken forums. That is all.
This can work both ways as well.

I may not be a Smash player due to lacking a GC but I have wanted to learn game if given the oppurtunity. :0 You can help SRKers with Smash and SRKers can help with any other fighter~

For example, the GG thread could use some major updating. =(

Anyways, I just hope that as many Smashers come out to Evo as possible,

Make it an Evo to remember, yo. ^^;;

Now, they just need to announce TMNT: TF and it will be perfect.

considering the judge system that evo has in place for every game to prevent foul play (they personally preside over every match) and the expected turnout, i bet there'll be no shortage of people who know their stuff

Hey, I'm pretty familiar with the GG scene. A friend of mine is a mod at dustloop.com (I think) and he placed in the top 10 for reload at Evo2k5. He also played smash with the Austin crew and tried to teach me GG, but I got tired of getting owned by some of the best in TX. I have Slash now but I can't really seem to get into it even tho I know there's a good scene around here. Mainly because of how wrapped up in SSBM I am. :p

Anyway, I will be at Evo South at least and I will be happy to help anyone with smash, and if anyone would like to help me learn how to use Millia and Slayer in Slash, that would be great. :p

If the people at EVO are smart, then they will just use MLG rules with maybe a couple of modifications. Since no official announcement about rules pertaining to Smash have been made, there shouldn't be too much worrying as of yet. :)

If renegade is convinced, I'm convinced

Renegade runs some of the best tourneys in the MD/VA region, and runs smash along with the 3S and whatnot tourneys.

Rofl, Wii Boxing was announced.
That was a joke on CvS2 players. It's changed now to Capcom vs SNK 2.

That game was pretty much a lock, but so many SRK'ers were refreshing evo2k.com, wizard pulled a prank.

It was madness for about 10 minutes until someone saw the video they put up was pretty hastily done.

Really funny stuff.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm hoping they use the same rules for stages that OC2 did, where they had to compromise with the Japanese players who only play FD and Dreamland. Basically they just limited all the stages to the six neutral stages, and I think they made the first round of each set random between FD and Dreamland. Either that or it was just a random neutral like usual. But yeah, it seems kind of absurd to play stages like Rainbow Cruise and Poke Floats in a serious tournament match. It's like people are asking "why not," saying that there's no specific reason to not ban the stages, like Fox being able to camp or something. But I would rather ask "why?" Those stages are ********, and force you to play the game way differently. Playing on Rainbow Cruise and Poke Floats, it's not really the same game, and it's not...it just sucks. I don't know. Pretty much all you're doing is waiting for an opportunity to gimp your opponent at a certain part of the stage, where there's no ledge to grab back onto, or where you can just back throw into the wall at low percent or something. Kind of ruins the beauty of this game as a complex fighting game, in my opinion. I mean why do you choose to play Smash competitively over something like Mortal Kombat? Because Smash has a great system, and works well when played at a high level. Sure you can practice Mortal Kombat and get as good at it as you can, but what's the point? It sucks when played competitively. Same with playing Melee on Rainbow Cruise or similar stages, as I see it. Maybe I'm wrong though. Feel free to disagree, I'd like to hear people's opinions.

Edit: Haha, that's awesome what they did with Wii Boxing. I wish I could have seen the page they had set up for it.

If it's not obviously broken as a stage (flat zone, Icy Mountain), or give certain characters HUGE advantages (Peach:Fourside)... then it shouldn't be banned.

It's it's not game breaking, don't ban it. You have counter picks, use them if you happen to lose.

It's like tennis, play on grass, on clay, on hard.

Just be prepared to play.

Rainbow Cruise and Poke Floats are some of the best stages available.

better than yoshi's story and FD
Too true, every week I seem love pokefloats more and more. FD is bleh, your options in many situations are reduced by several fold as compared to other stages. Onett is another quality stage and should be available for at least teams at evo! =)

Heya Fonz. You, G-Reg, Aho, and other leaders of TA and MD need to shoot me an im in the next day or two. My AIM is ownzjoo4free. I'd like to bounce some stuff off of you guys, and see what your plans are.

Moar stages ftw. I'm all for canning this recent "get stages down to as few as possible" stuff. More variety, more strategy, and more enjoyment.

Hey Renegade, I'd like to be involved in commentary for smash if they do that kind of thing at these evo events. I'm sure Omnigamer would agree that smash, with the proper commentation, is extremely entertaining. Evo-Commentary FTW

From what I know, they had commentary at the last EVO for the finals and what not. I'm guessing they'll prolly do it again this year

Question.

So whoever wins the SSBM Tournament at EVO - are they considered the newest "World Champion" of Smash? Because EVO is partaken globally, so basically, the cream of the crop will arrive from Europe, Japan, USA, etc., and not necessarily those that have had access to MLG Tournaments in the past.

Who knows, maybe Daigo will rip up the entire scene, and shake the entire SSBM community to its core. Would love to see that happen, as it means a huge burst in players absolutely perfecting their game for future EVO Tournaments, if it happens. *crosses fingers*

There is a thread on SRK about potential commentators.

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=126442

According to seth, commentary positions are still open, so here's a chance to be one of the voices of evo.

Capture audio and/or video of yourself doing commentary on a match video in one of the evo games, put it online somewhere and post it up here.

If you can't do video and audio, just post the audio at least...

One does not simply post in a legendary thread, he SPAMS

when I read this yesterday I was like. wow how many people in Evo are gonna hate this. I visit the forums of course not surprised by the smash hate lolz.

clearly this is a good idea, anyone else noticed the trend though? mlg drops us in their pro-circuit and evo picks us up. hmmmm interesting. <_<

This is mad exciting stuff. Just a few years ago Mattdeezie, Scamp, and several others were really pushing hard for EVO to hold Smash, but Melee just got couldn't break past the "cutesy" images to many serious Shoryuken players at the time. The metagame has also come a long way since then, and there are so many good smashers scattered around the US it's just insane competition nowadays.

Personally I'd love it also if a lot of the Shoryuken crowd tried their hands at Smash, it could mean so much for both communities.
