Well, I'm not for Prop 8 because of that, that's not the issue. My issue is how they'll treat everyone else because we don't accept their lifestyle. I don't hate gays, but I don't have to like what they do. But... with all the bad things happening, apparently the government can force me and my children to go against our personal morals and accept them. THAT is why I'm against it. I have every right to disagree with their lifestyle, for any reasons. That is a freedom I have as being an American, and well... it will be taken away from me and my family if Prop 8 fails.

No, the government can force you to allow them to get married and have the tax benefits that married people enjoy. Nothing else.

Oh wait. Yeah. They can also visit their spouse in the hospital whenever they want, and will never be denied visitation rights.

All this has oh so much to do with you and your children accepting gays. You don't have to accept them, you just have to let them get married.

Despite the treatment of them being the same? Blacks and white were segregated for ages after being freed, and now they're doing the same thing to them.

Race can't be changed (not counting Michael Jackson) and neither can sexual preference.

Being black doesn't harm anyone, neither does being gay.

Both are things that people discriminate against, even now.
I know I might be misreading your seriousness as sarcasm (or vice versa), but you do know I was sarcastic right?

I never thought there was anything wrong with having two parents of the same sex, even as a child. I've been raised by two moms all my life, and surprise surprise, my life isn't inside out. Or maybe it is, and the fact I live with gay parents makes me ignorant to the horrors around me.

Because all the people who have been married before would be all "oh noes now we don't love each other as much anymore, our love doesn't mean the same because two guys/girls can and their love is less than ours and they suck and they're mocking us with their mararages.
"Despite the fact I've never seen these two men/women before in my life and probably never will again, the fact they are happy makes me unhappy."

It counters out all the people who aren't voting for him because he's black.
lol.

Won't be any worse than how you treat them. We won't be seeing any 'Segregate straight people' bills.

I don't hate gays, but I don't have to like what they do.
No one's saying that you do. I know while I accept gays and feel they can do whatever they want, it still doesn't stop me from cringing when seeing on screen gay kisses and not desiring their sexual acts. I've got no problems with them doing it, I just personally don't want to.

But... with all the bad things happening, apparently the government can force me and my children to go against our personal morals and accept them.
Yeah! How DARE the government think that EVERYONE SHOULD BE TREATED EQUAL! I mean, how dare someone's lifestyle choice, which is different from MINE, be taught that it's okay to be that way? I mean, would god accept everyone? Aren't they still a person with feelings like any other?

THAT is why I'm against it. I have every right to disagree with their lifestyle, for any reasons. That is a freedom I have as being an American, and well... it will be taken away from me and my family if Prop 8 fails.
Just as being gay all you want is fine as long as it doesn't affect others directly, you can disagree with anyone as long as it doesn't affect others.

Not that anything I say will make a difference. I wish you luck on your fight for the right to discriminate others because they aren't you.

EDIT:
I know I might be misreading your seriousness as sarcasm (or vice versa), but you do know I was sarcastic right?
No I didn't, sorry XD

Racism really isn't a moral issue. Its more akin to gang violence where you set someone or in this case a group up as your scapegoat to rally against and to unite your side so that you can build or retain power.

Racism is a control devise. Hitler could probably not give a flying **** about jews but he knew that he could captalize on them and thus Genocide and the rise of the Nazis

This is the kind of self-righteous hypocrisy that I see in people who call themselves Republicans more and more often.

You need to look up some definitions too.
Dictionary.com --- moral: of, pertaining to, or concerned with the principles or rules of right conduct or the distinction between right and wrong.
If someone thinks racism is right and you think it is wrong, then together, you have made it a moral issue.
Theoretically, because the human mind has no laws that regulate it to inevitably form extremely specific opinions on topics (although this is contestable), it can be assumed that someone else will always disagree with you on a given topic judged right or wrong by someone.

It's times like this where my hope in mankind falters.

I thought this thread was for the election not gay marriage.

I like Obama better but I feel sorry for McCain. I mean, it's his last chance.
Crap! I'm falling for the sad old grandpa tactic! NOOOOO!

Sorry but thats how people think of it.

I as a man am straight and prefer women over men. Saying homosexuality is a sex preference shouldn't be that offensive.

It's not like he said ZOMGQUEER***LUZERIHATEMENWHOTAKEITUPTHEASSPHAILZ

Edit: sorry for double post

Why I voted for McCain.

I really don't like Obama though I dislike McCain almost as much.

I like McCain's tax policies better (a 120,000$ income isn't rich in my area).

I think it's dumb to put a timetable on Iraq (though we shouldn't have entered in the first place).

I also want offshore drilling. If it messes up the environment well w/e. All the major sources of energy will mess up the environment somehow.

Bidet is just as weird as Pain.

laki - i don't find the term offensive as im not gay, i find it incorrect. the term signifies theres a choice a person makes about their orientation. all the gays i know didnt decide to be gay, it's just the way they are.

It's not about rich. It's about being able to afford a tax increase. 120k is a lot of income. Even if its not a lot in your area, it's more money than like 80% of Americans make unless that's both parents. My dad makes 70k working 2 jobs >_>

When should we be able to find out the winners of the election

Awesome. We are facing a future as a communist socialist country instead of a nationalist socialist. It means nothing really to me.

That being said, if Obama is killed, I am turning race traitor. **** you crackers.

Visiting from above.
Sometime tonight a winner will be declared. Keep in mind that they don't really need results from all 50 states, if one of the candidates makes it to 270 electoral votes first.

*EDIT* Wow it was called and like 5 people posted in the time it took me to write this very short post.

Idiots are running down the halls like the Red Sox won the world series. It's like they think Obama is going to fix everything/anything.

Edit: not that I thought McCain would do anything incredible either, just less bad ****.

Flawless Victory. I didn't think I'd see the day...

Now, we'll have to see if he can keep his promises... Granted, I've always wanted a black president, but I do realize that his being black doesn't necessarily mean he'll fix any and everything.

Regardless, though... this is an amazing spectacle...
