Make it the 3rd! Screw everyone else =P
I can make it thats all that matters....I can make the 10th too but that's besides the point.

Ha, when was the last fest anyway, quite a distance between it and the next one...

in good news guys brawl is now confirmed at my ranbat in bolton. i have recording equipment and 5 tvs! not recording equipment for all 5 at once. tho i suppose you brawl players and your sd cards you have no use. helps for you melee enthusiasts tho :)

also theres a large chance that i will be moving to licolnshire in like 6 months or so, if and when i start my training at the air force officer acadamy in Cranwell (is that right?) in Licolnshire. So i'm quite looking forward to meeting alot of you guys in advance :) :)
While I'd like to be enthusiastic about this tourney as much as you obviously are coey I don't think THAT many EM players will be making your monthly. Most of us haven't travelled out of our region yet, the only people to do so are me, Calzorz and Yeniths. So you'll probably only be seeing us 3 from EM if we all decide to go. :ohwell:

thats cool man i just wanted a sort of introduction as well. plus 3 players isnt so bad, if we went off the last NW ranbat then 3 more players would have been like a 50% increase haha.

so is you name actually will then, mine is you see and i feel a MM in order for the name :p

Well this isn't confirmed yet, although more Brawl players will be most likely at this. So personally go with NW atm Pedo3.

ugh, im afraid that im probs in the same boat as trio. Its costing me bout £50 to go to any one of these and at the moment, NW is enticing me a lot more, probs because of the higher melee competetion. Id rather go there with no chance of winning money back but playing top ppl than go to EM and have every chance of coming 1st, no offence guys. Also, deathgazer didnt get into loughborough and getting to play him was quite a large pull for me to come 2 ur ranbats lol.

Also, willz, u were asking why the nw ranbats were getting more hype than EM was already, well there are a number of factors. First, them lot are never ashamed to advertise well. Also, its a lot more accesible cos tbh, em is faaaar to get to, and much more expensive. And finally the hosts are very well known and respected. No offence to u two, but joe and coey command a lot more respect amongst the community becuase they have been around longer, thats not to say you two arent doing a good job. I think to get a community going up there speaks volumes of your dedication to the game, so keep it up. :)

guys if its a problem finding a venue were happy to have you all up for the 19th if your able/funded.

Were really not trying to steal interest were actually trying to formalise the smash scene, making sure theres events every single month eithout fail! Me and Coey have run monthlies for about 3 years now rofl so were pretty good at it =)

Leicester is a lot nearer than Bolton, and it's the same price to get to Leicester as it is to Manchester (according to the National Express website). I understand your point about us being hosts and that they advertise a lot more, I agree with that. But getting to Leicester is quicker and just as expensive as getting to Manchester from London. (If I didn't make it obvious enough, this is targeted at London because not many of them come to EM fests. Only Auroreon, Ixis and TC have come to ours)

by the sounds of things would it be worth having a, or a series of, mini fests?

has anyone else had any trouble posting btw?

willz: well my travel time to bolton is 3 hrs whilst my travel time to leicester is 5 hrs, and £10 more expensive (i live in oxford now, not london so that doesnt apply to me) Travel is very **** in oxford, especially to leicester as it seems i would have to go down to london, but to manchester, its pretty straight forward as i have quite a few options

Willz- If your having problems with attendance theres always reasons why, some fixable others you have to bear with =/.

Firstly Londoners will never understand what its like hosting events outside of london, they have a million peeps who dont travel outside of london, they cannot comprehend NOT instantly getting 50 people without any effort other then 'im having a fest, wanna come?'

Advertising is important and so is being good at the game but the biggest factor is getting yourself known. Sitting back wondering why people dont travel to you isnt gonna help.
Me and coey went to every event in a 2 year period and neither of us has ever missed a tourney. You gotta be social at tourneys and if your an easy going dude who respects everyone then youll get the same respect in return.
Start drumming up interest well in advance by having a tight knit group who will always attend and if need be pay for certain 'pillars' to come and when theyre booked others will follow suit. There is such a horrible 'ill come if you come' mentality especially in Brawl atm, breaking that down is intrical to success. One of the best ways to do this is simply to take the effort of becoming good friends with them, that way they'll WANT to travel to you, not be hesitant.

Lastly you gotta tackle the 'maybes' rofl. Honestly i dunno why but some people are so lazy they are incapable of booking for themselves. Get these people to travel with other people or friends, on top of that you gotta proper annoy people to book rofl, the boards doesnt do it justice, you gotta get on msn and shove booking info in their faces haha. sending them links and even booking for them on condition they pay you back obv.

Imo lazy people who choose not to travel dont deserve to be alive.

Thanks for all that Joe, it's a great help too me as I should be becoming a regular host now.

woop I forgot something mega important rofl, repeatability.

If you guys played melee, and Ed was running a tourney, youd deffo want to go, why? coz Eds tourneys are the best!

See what i mean, you have a good event and people wanna go to others. So what makes an event special =o

Authority. Making sure an event is smoothly run is mega important obv, and you gotta do it with authority dude, being clear and commanding, doesnt matter if you appear a **** about it, if you aint strict then peeps may walk all over your rules =/, so make sure your as precise and final on your word as a football referee!

Socialising. Your a host, so your not just catering for smash, but for the people. get to know your fellow smashers, and encourage them to get to know eachother obv. You dont have to brown nose them rofl, people are gonna respect the fact that not everyone can be awesome mates with everyone else, but making the effort will go a long way for sure.

Alternate Shiz. Allocate a smash free zone/room! dont ever underestimate this lol. The amount of events ive been too were ive wanted a break from smash but had nothing better to do is heartbreaking =(. Even if its just a deck of cards or some beers or just peeps in a room talking, having an alternative to smash is a life saver. Not every will use it, but its essential for those who cant play smash all night.

Alot of everything is obvious always, but i cannot stress how important the points are.

Hope it helps, even if its just a smidge =D

Another set of useful tips, cheers again dude, i'll be taking this into account.

Authority will be fun, I'm hoping to get everything done asap, might piss people off, but everyone will be happy once theres time too play as many friendlies as you like. And I'm not a sociaphobe so thats all k for me.

Thanks again fo' tho good tips.

Ohey guiz.

Haven't been on here recently because I'm lazy >_>; Oh, and I lost my Wii. -.-

Good news is I found my Wii. (it had inexplainably been dumped in the corner of the downstairs landing, behind a pile of junk and the vacuum cleaner :ohwell: so I got that set up. yay.

Not sure if I have the money to make the next theorised fest (19th?) especially if it's in leicester, but if Calz wants me and a bunch of EMers at his place this weekend or something, I'll get £10 together and come up.

I need to train my Yoshi and Wario. **** you Trio for that video. I'mma practice DJC egg lay now :p yay for invincibility frames. :3

Its on the 19th, should be a doable journey for ya if ur free that day

here's a link
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=247662
thing is i usually work sat mornings and can only get em off by gettin someone to swap with me. If it was a regular thing my managers would have to have a word with me. currently it's only been twice ive done it so theyre fine with that, if it was very regular id be screwed.

Rake go to NW and take me, brado and calzum yeyeyeyyeye.

.... =3

Hmm i would but I'm just wondering atm cos I'd love to go but as i said before, it could be hard to get people to swap umerous shifts and my managers will be like "why are you not working saturdays, it's your shift". Hmm, ill give it some thought, if i do i'll give some lift....diesel money will be required of course ;) seen as going via leicester adds 100 miles overall (thats the combined for there and back, overal that makes it 300 miles so will cost me bout £30 in diesel)

If i did go to the ranbat though i probably wouldn't do brados

Hmmm i think it would be better if u guys all went to Manchester one, the turnout will be alot bigger IMO, and plus there will be rly good melee players there for Willzarth to play.

Yeah Calz is the best easily.

I'm decent at Melee. Probably about as good as Yeniths or Aiko. Just need to practice and go to more tourneys.
