If Undertale was owned by a big company I'd agree, but It's nature as an india actually helps here. Instead of months of negotiations with another company, you just need Toby Fox (who is a big Smash fan) to say yes.

Yes, but keep in mind how last second and fast that would have to be. Nintendo was likely already looking at candidates for CP10 and CP11. They would’ve had to see Sans success and almost immediately jump to an Undertale Rep as an option. Its not impossible, but its even more implausible than it already was. I do hope I’m wrong though. Undertale would be an amazing inclusion.

Oh, since we were on the topic of Touhou yesterday: Gensou Skydrift got into a few indie release spotlight videos. I know it's on the Switch, but is it out already? I think this is a good time as any to ask the resident Touhou people about what counts as a "real spinoff" for Touhou.

Simply put, the Touhou hierarchy goes like this

• Mainline - The official, ZUN-made shooters. Use whole numbers to indicate their placement in the series.
• Spinoffs - ZUN-made games that don't fit with the "usual" shooters, such as unorthodox shooters and the fighters. Sometimes some fans are brought in, most notably Twilight Frontier, but ZUN is still calling the shots. Listed with numbers and decimal points (i.e. 12.8), based on the games they were released between (For example, IaMP released between Touhou 7 and Touhou 8, so it's numbered 7.5).
• Fangames - Anything helmed by fans. ZUN usually has no involvement in these whatsoever beyond his blessings, though there are some occasions where he's stepped down and composed some songs for them. Since ZUN didn't take control of these, they don't have any numbering.

Gensou Skydrift would be placed under the latter.

Some of the other Mii Costumes probably did well, but not "the main topic of discussion on the internet for a month" like Sans was. None of the other costumes drowned out the release of one character and the reveal of another.

That’s kind of irrelevant when they likely already had the second pass decided before they even announced the Sans costume, seeing as how they were both announced in the same presentation. That mentality assumes that they’re just deciding on characters as they go, making their decisions based on fan reactions on YouTube. There’s a plethora of other characters that are equally if not more beneficial for them to add for a multitude of different reasons, and yet you think they’d go with Undertale just because the Mii costume got a big reaction. You must be new to Nintendo. They always drip feed info with their big titles, especially Smash. You really think they’re gonna give out all the details in the same presentation that they revealed Banjo’s release date AND announced Terry? No fam. They’re gonna milk it like they always do. Not to mention that Sakurai specifically said like a month later that all the characters had already been decided.
