In a vacuum, I personally thought Byleth's trailer was much better than Pyra/Mythra's. I think people's disappointment with the character itself is kind of coloring their opinion of the trailer. It had good moments. The too many swords, and the swords"man" jokes delivered for me. I think Neon's assessment of the Xenobae's trailer is spot on - the pacing was slow and it just felt kinda uninspired.

Wouldn’t You Like To Know?
Pyra/Mythra Impressions.
I like em, theres all these little things to exploit that it feels fun to use things like Ray of Punishment and Blazing End to gimp people when you couldn’t normally.

Normals aren’t my thing though. I know its the point but Mythra doesn’t do enough damage to feel satisfying and Pyra is just sooooo slow. I kinda wish they had the spoiler lady as an in between the two (they seem to be related somehow so I’m guessing shes some other blade, please don’t send me to XBC hell)

I’ll use them for fun, but I don’t plan on anything competitive. Still a cool inclusion and definitely my favorite Stance character of Smash.

Edit: Probably should’ve put this somewhere else.

Pretty much every DLC stage is scenery porn, ain't it? Whether it's Mementos and its stylization, Yggdrasil's Altar and pretty much the entire world of Dragon Quest XI, there's a lot of pretty sights to take in. Even Minecraft World is charming, thanks to it basically just being plucked out of Minecraft itself!

CP11. Octoling
You know what? This prediction is pretty crazy but I'm starting to get on board with it.

Splatoon 2 was only able to get minimal content in base game, and Octo Expansion clearly got nothing. In turn Splatoon representation is pretty skewed toward the first, especially through Inkling's moveset, while the series has continued to evolve and is en route to getting a third game already. Honestly Splatoon content is fairly standard and unremarkable for a series that has become such a cornerstone for Nintendo as of late.

I'm not convinced we're getting another first party, but I'd mark this as a more significant possibility than people are probably willing to give it credit for. More than enough content to work with in creating an original moveset (Splatoon 2 weapons and hell, Inkling just barely scratches the surface anyway) and additional content from 2 and Octo Expansion. Splatoon is obviously a huge deal for Nintendo nowadays and considered a major franchise, and it's also a nice bookend to ring in the next era of Switch games with Splatoon 3 coming the following year.

I dunno, it makes sense! At this point it's best to keep our minds open, and I'm hearing this one out and understanding it. I can dig it.

I Like Sakurai directing

But I'm also interested Another Director taking over and how they put their Spin on things. I'd be interested in what Smash would be like without Sakurai, but I do like Sakurai's Vision of Smash though

**** it my final two are gonna be oddballs

CP10. Either Reimu or Ahri
And
CP11. Octoling

idc what y’all say. Ultimate started with Splatoon. IT WILL END WITH SPLATOON. SQUID SISTERS MIIS BE DAMNED.
While I'm unsure about Octoling being in, I do have to say that you do bring up something

In about 4 days, it would be the 3 year anniversary of the Reveal of Super Smash Bros for the Nintendo Switch. that's very interesting, because I have a theory

I think for whatever June Direct that Nintendo has in store, they may have a Huge Smash Presentation in that Same direct, like the Same direct that revealed Smash Ultimate officially, or perhaps they have a separate Final Smash Presentation thing

FP2 is gonna be the end of Ultimate it seems, and I think on the 3 year anniversary of the Reveal of Ultimate, they might do another reedition of Everyone is here, this time with all the Fighters. I also do think that Both CP10 and CP11 should by that time have their Trailers ready, and perhaps be able to have their Broadcast recorded and finished, and at Least CP10 should be able to release around that time

Thoughts:

I think this was probably the lowest key reveal at least in terms of trailers. Compared to some of the other packs, Sakurai's demonstration didn't really hype me up too much. Aside from the joke about his totally innocent preferences between the two women, I can't really think of too much to meme about here. Am kind of curious as to how big Sakurai's desk is if it has to fit all of those figures in it. lol

The two of the have an interesting playstyle and feel mostly good. Pyra feels more satisfying with her stronger hits IMO, but it's definitely fun to zip around as Mythra, who for lack of a better term, feels like Fox with a sword. Like Terry, I'm very curious to see them in action in high level play. I'd assume you get the latter's Fighter Spirit in the shop as I completed Classic twice with no difference in result?

The stage is interesting though I kind of wish it changed from day to night to make things more dramatic. Could be a potential counterpick but who knows given how picky the competitive scene can be. I'm just glad they finally made a stage entirely where you're on the back of a living creature (RIP Grima). It's especially cool to see just how much dialogue Azurda has.

The extra Spirits are a nice surprise and I guess solves the mystery of the notification datamine. I am bummed that they are currently locked behind a paywall, but if it means Arthur gets a Spirit I'm all for it. I was honestly kind of hoping for a Ghosts n Goblins spirit event so we could have a Red Arremer Ridley fight.

Monster Hunter I think always had a modest chance, but not enough that I would have personally leaned in towards so the returning costumes isn't much of a surprise. Was actually thinking last night before bed that Arthur getting a costume would make a lot of sense given the new game so I'm glad he did. I always get bummed when people complain about him being in MvC or leaving him off of rosters.

Am surprised we didn't get anything in terms of Xenoblade X music. A KOS-MOS reference would have been nice as well too, I think would have been fairly hype, but that was always more of a cherry on top.

I'm a huge fan of FE:3H and am happy Byleth made it in (even if I would have preferred Edelgard or one of the other House lords atleast), but yeah the trailer was awkward even for me.

The swordfighter joke was the only thing about it I really enjoyed.

Honestly, I'm just disappointed by it because it could have been so much cooler. imagine if they had Byleth's trailer actually be based on the moment in the game you choose what House you want to lead, and during the trailer they scroll through the 3 houses as usual, but after the third house, it moves on to "House of Smash", showing a pic of the 7 other FE characters that were already in Smash, with a pic of Sakurai as the house leader portrait.

Would have been so perfect.

The stage does change time afaik. It just takes awhile.

Having played a round with every XC2 song, fought every Spirit Battle, and run through the Classic Mode, I think it's safe to say I've got a new main. I default to Pyra the most thanks to her ludicrous kill power, but Mythra sees some use, too; The switch can be activated on a whim, and the multihits are quite satisfying to pull off. Still, Prominence Revolt and especially Smash Flare are absolute monsters, and they're extremely satisfying to land. Between Pyra, Byleth, and Sephiroth, I think my true calling is heavy swordfighters.

The Xenoblade trailer is genuinely my favorite trailer ever. XC2 is one of my favorite games of all time and seeing more of it, not exactly knowing what it is, the build up, the music..all of it as a XC2 fan was absolute perfection to me. Is it bombastic and gives you the "omg wtf??" Moment like Sephiroth? No, but it made me genuinely more emotional than any other trailer has. I would not change a thing. Sakurai letting Monolith handle the reveal with the writing and cg speaks volumes of the respect he's giving to them.

The amount of love given to these characters and the fanfare. It's really special to me. Maybe it's lowkey to some but not to a lot of Xenoblade 2 fans. Then to add to that they're easily the most fun character for me and it's only been a few hours. I do not care what comes next. I have reached the largest possible peak of happiness.

I thought Pyra/Mythra's trailer was pretty well done for what it was.

If you wanna talk awkward, look no further than Byleth.
I still maintain that Isabelle has the worst trailer out the Ultimate newcomers.
I am referring to be the base game and the DLC fighters.
Considering the sluggish beginning which had no sense of tension or build up and the actual fighter is merely a semi-clone of Villager, I pity Isabelle fans for getting such a trash trailer.
I may not like Byleth, but I'll admit their trailer was pretty decent and the same holds true for the Ken/Incineroar and Steve trailers.

Also I think the Pyra/Mythra is among the best trailers we have gotten for Ultimate.

Idk, it’s pretty difficult to make a “hype” Isabelle trailer. I think having it look so much like a regular ass animal crossing trailer does a lot for it, because it was really the only one I didn’t realize was a Smash trailer until she dropped the line.
He might mean Heavy in Damage, and Smashing
Yeah I figured, I just wanted to be cute

The Fighter Spirit depends on who you start with. You can select Pyra or Mythra on the CSS like how you can change your starting Pokémon on CSS with Pokémon Trainer. Starting with Pyra gives you her Spirit at the end, starting with Mythra gives you hers.

The thing about the Byleth trailer was it was clearly meant to also be a fake-out trailer, but when whatever plans they had shifted and it was put into a Smash presentation, it lost the element of surprise.

Not saying that would've spared Byleth from getting lit up, just that the trailer obviously wasn't shown in the context it was originally conceived to be.
i'll summeris it in the way you summarized pyra and mythras reveal trialer

byleth
byleth in smash
byleth is swordsman
byleth lose's match
byleth is SwordsWOMen which
byleth is axe, spear bow women
byleth win's the match with a crusty png as their ultimate attack.

honestly that text would've been the trailer

cutting back and forth from FETH in game engine, smash bros and the anime style cutscense were really messy, and there really didn't need to be a separate reveal for female byleth.

even if it was a surprise trailer it wouldn't work because by the time the surprise where's off the gameplay hasn't even started. and when it does it lasts for like 8 seconds before going back to another minute long segment that shouldn't have existed.

plus the jokes were terrible "there are so many Anime Swordsman so instead im gonna turn into an anime swordswomen!!""clever girl"

that was the awkwardest thing, and it had no impact, the screen just faded to black and in the meantime byleth became a girl so she wouldn't have to be bullied about being a swordsman.
for reference

funny part is since they made the haha we have sooooooooooooooo much swords's people joke, they added 3 people who use a sword.

Edit: seriously it's actually hard to watch this trailer

gameplay starts at 1:37, ends at 1:58. then starts again at 2:56 and end's again at 3:43 so there a total of 2 minutes and 49 seconds of cutscenes and around 1 minute and 8 seconds of gameplay.

Are you guys conflating the character reception with the trailer? Because Byleth's trailer is... fine. It's not the best one, but I don't think it's the worst either. It makes the sword-fighter joke, which I enjoyed.
byleth is my 4th favourite character in the game but it takes ages to get gameplay since the pacing is so slow, and once you get gameplay they go right back to the awkward shot's.

I got a chance to play Pyra/Mythra and I actually really like them. I liked playing as Mythra considerably more than Pyra, Pyra's slowness feels weird after building up damage as Mythra, so I mainly just switched to her when the opponent was at high % to land an easy killing blow, that or using the switch to dodge lol.

And yes, I mainly went with the "Myra and Pythra" reverse alt

So here's something.

The Let's Go/DQ11s Spirits both got added into the game via a major patch, and were only allowed to be obtainable by everyone in a major patch.

Partner Pikachu/Eevee in base game > Added in Plant's update for everyone to get

Tockles added in Banjo's update > Was added to the Hero spirit board in Terry's patch

So about 1-2 month waits between, but the sole consistent thing is that they've only done this in "Big" patches. They've added missing event spirits whenever, but so far, never promotional spirits.

I figured out that it was Fire Emblem before Byleth even showed up on screen. Despite not playing the game at that point I still recognized the cutscene engine of the game from watching directs. It was kind of like Isabelle's trailer where I was practically screaming "Yeah, I know, they're in Smash. Just get to the point already".

Pyra came with TWO Legend Spirits!
That means that Crash can come with both Cortex AND Spyro as Legend Spirits!
Why would Crash come with Spyro? They aren't part of the same series and Crash has enough characters to easily fill a Spirit Banner itself.
I mean, yeah, Spyro sometimes does crossovers with Crash, like with their GBA games, Skylanders, and Crash Team Racing, but Spyro is otherwise its own separate series.

Like, yeah, we saw non-Fatal Fury Spirits with Terry, but lets be honest, his thing was more 'Smash Bros. x SNK' than it was strictly 'Smash Bros. x Fatal Fury' regardless fo what it said, I doubt they'd do a 'Smash Bros x Activision' thing with 'Smash Bros x Crash Bandicoot'.
In a vacuum, I personally thought Byleth's trailer was much better than Pyra/Mythra's. I think people's disappointment with the character itself is kind of coloring their opinion of the trailer. I disagree. Byleth's Trailer was too similar to Corrin's Trailer in that both of them were just scenes from their home game but altered somewhat to become Super Smash Bros. trailers. Byleth's was a bit better since it at least had new more complicated footage than just a new option on the 'Select Your Path' menu, but it was still just a cutscene from their game. Pyra/Mythra's made it truly feel set in the Xenoblade world but with new footage so that even people that expected a Xenoblade 2 character wasn't sure if it was new DLC for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 or Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
It also, in my opinion, had pretty well choreographed fighting, which is fitting since the team behind Xenoblade Chronicles 2 did those portions.

The best thing about Byleth's reveal was this face

soth.png
But yeah, a lot of bad timing for this trailer. Would've worked better in a direct where it wasn't completely obvious that it was Smash and not TH DLC, as well as being at the end of the pass where everyone was expecting a big third party (IIRC everyone was on the Dante speculation train for some reason)

I thought Isabelle's trailer was fine, just context sensitive. It was impactful in the Direct it aired in, leaving it kind of up in the air whether it was for Smash or a new game only to find out it was for both. It's not a trailer that you can really go back to and watch a whole lot, but I think it serves its purpose.

Byleth's trailer could have been something similar, but it falls flat because it was presented in a Sakurai presentation rather than in the middle of a Direct where it could have been mistaken for DLC or something. I'm convinced that was probably the original mindset behind the trailer, but plans got shuffled around and it just totally didn't work at all as a contained trailer.

Spyro is considered Crash's PS1 platformer mascot brother from another mother, hence WHY he often crosses over with Crash.

That might have been the problem.
I don't play Animal Crossing and the fact that Isabelle's reveal looked like a trailer for a new Animal Crossing game might have impacted my enjoyment.
You could argue the same problem was present in the Pyra/Mythra trailer, but at least the music was building up to Rex's fateful reunion with Pyra on Final Destination.

that's because the trialer itself had much more happening, you summarized pyr'as trailers great but it had one potline instead of two.

i think trailers like ridleys, k rools are great,

pyras was okay

Byleth's was a joke.

Does anyone remember that ice climbers, bayonetta, duck hunt and link had problems in the game long ago? All these issues are similar to the dlc characters. banjo =duck hunt , link = Hero, ice climbers = Mithra/Pyra, etc. I cant remeber all the characters.

Yeah there are some characters I could see bringing the whole company with them, but not in this case.

I disagree. Byleth's Trailer was too similar to Corrin's Trailer in that both of them were just scenes from their home game but altered somewhat to become Super Smash Bros. trailers. Honestly I didn't really play or think about Smash at all for a long period shortly after 4 came out, so I pretty much didn't see the Smash 4 trailers until long after they were old news, so that might change my perspective a little. I also thought Rex was one of the most likely candidates on the day of the Direct, so when it opened with Xenoblade I immediately figured it was Rex . I was wrong, so I did at least enjoy some amount of surprise in the trailer, but not about it being a Smash trailer.

But yeah, at the end of the day whether a trailer is good or not is all subjective anyway. Personally I thought Pyra's felt pretty flat, and unlike Byleth's, it wasn't the fault of the character itself. It probably didn't help that it was the one to follow Sephiroth's trailer.

I thought it was Mii Swordfighter instead of Link for Hero.

Lets see.... The Glitches/Bases for Each Character

:ultpiranha: = :ultbowserjr: (Due to certain moves still being in the files that matched Bowser Jr)
:ultjoker: = ??? (Honestly do not remember, but it wouldnt surprise me if it was Sheik)
:ulthero: = :ultswordfighter: (It might have been Link, but I remember there was a Glitch with both Mii Swords and Duck Hunt around that time.
:ultbanjokazooie: = :ultduckhunt:(Seems Self Explanatory)
:ult_terry: = :ultryu::ultken: (I dont remember the specifics, but they make they make the most sense)
:ultbyleth: = :ultsimon::ultrichter: (There were things about their Whips Glitching which lined up with Byleths moves)
:ultminmin = :ultbayonetta: (With her Summoning being Glitched, thats what got people with her.)
:ultsteve: = :ultdaisy: (Not as confident, but she had some glitches, and since the Turnip can line up with the mining, it adds up)
:ultsephiroth: = ??? (I dont remember for sure, but I seem to remember something with Marth?)
And According to you Pyra and Mythra had a glitch with the Ice Climbers.

Pythra trailer is the best video ever made. Absolute love letter to Xenoblade 2. The Blades are really fun to play too. My favorite stunt is swapping to Pyra using Mythra’s momentum to throw out a big move. Pyra is more beginner friendly and a near necessity for netting KOs but damn if Mythra’s movement isn’t addicting. Also I love how they kind of look like they’re dancing during some of their normals, like Dsmash and Fair. 11/10 character.

I get that, but that doesn't mean that Nintendo would license the Spyro series along with the Crash Bandicoot series for a single spirit as part of a different series' Spirit Board (especially when Spyro wasn't that popular in Japan due to the localization there almost completely ruining the poor game)
Now I'm not saying that Spyro isn't possible, but he'd probably be made into his own Spirit Event situation or a 'Played that Game' Spirit Situation like Sophia & Arthur.
