Perhaps, but competitive gameplay was never the main draw, and while they have been catering to the competitive players more over the years, they still aren't using it as a selling point from what I've seen. Promoting the newer game (as they have been doing) also doesn't really hurt the scene any because if Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be the main competitive format, then the competitive players aren't really going to go anywhere regardless of where the majority of the eyes are in the series.
I really don't think the location of the competitive scene is going to influence a Pokémon character getting into Super Smash Bros., especially when it could be highly beneficial to promote the newer game in the series, as it's trying something very different than normal while still passing itself off as a mainline title.
