I hate bringing up the $ aspect because I'm no economist but I do forget these characters (DLC) cost money and so obviously waiting to reveal him until after Christmas shopping season in America is... well .. dumb. If they're available for download by October good on Nintendo but at the least they'll need to be mentioned in September in one way or another so kids can grab their mommy's wallets and buy ****.
Smash Ultimate is long past the point of being some significant Christmas gift.

“But mom said I could get Steve if I have good grades in school!!!!” 😭😭😭

Folks this is sarcasm, please don’t take this seriously
It’s totally fair for someone to still want to buy the DLC or heck even the game. Not everyone’s going have the game, but more people can of course play it.

Even if it's not a significant one, it and the DLC can and probably will still be a gift. Even if its not though people are still spending a ton of money on stuff for Christmas and if you reveal/release the character just after the holiday then people will be less inclined to buy it.

Oh man that sounds so sad..... =(
In my house it'd have been at the top of the list, yo.
But yeah imho getting Nintendo points for Christmas is a great gift and one of the reasons I still wear my Santa hat once a year.

We're most definitely getting our reveal in September. Every September has had a direct and the gap from June has been long enough for the final character to be revealed bring it'll be 3 months.

Haven’t past September directs revealed or talked about games that came the following year? I’m sure others have at least. I don’t see how it’s so farfetch’d :083:.
Was curious about this, so I looked at the two most recent Fall General Directs for games revealed then (i.e. were not formally announced anywhere until the Direct) but released the following year:

2018
(3DS)
Kirby's Exra Epic Yarn & Bowser's Inside Story remake

(Switch)
New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe, Little Town Hero, various Asmodee board game titles, FF ports (VII, IX, X, X-2) & Animal Crossing Switch (not released until 2020)

2019
Tokyo Mirage Sessions FE, Deadly Premonition 2, Rogue Company, Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition

So yeah, there some precedent here.

Believe it or not, but it's been like, 66-67 days since E3, and by the time the month's over, it'll be closer to 77-ish.

Roughly mid-80's is the 'average' between reveals in both FP1 and FP2, so while it isn't that long as of writing this, come the first FULL week of September, it officially will be.
It's also a large enough gap of time for reveals/releases between DLC. FP11 being a late September release is a fairly likely conclusion

Not when the next Smash amiibo figure comes out in 2022. Not when the deadline for pass 2 is December 31st.
I mean... we didn't start getting Volume 1 Amiibos until after Min Min. There's no need for them to wait on a character because of those.

And wasn't it established that December 31 was a placeholder date?

Yeah, the placeholder date is just for "if stuff happens, this is the latest".

It doesn't mean anything. Nor does the amiibo stuff.

It'll be September or if we're unlucky, October, for the reveal. Both are fairly soon from now anyway.

you realise the 31st December date isn’t the legit date of when the pass will end. It’s just a placeholder since they had 6 characters rather than 5 this time round. The Pass doesn’t have to end in December or any time round there. Pass 1 didn’t even end on its date if I remember correctly.

Pass 1 ended a month early from the date.

...Likewise, it was overall revealed in December, so the entire pass's reveal(along with PP's reveal) was a full year. January of the next year was the placeholder date. Including PP, the development would've been about a year and a half from the only data we have(we found data of it in September).

Go look up Bayonetta 3 on most retailers, they'll have it as "Current year December 31st, 2021"
No, that is only for video games and other physical products that the retailers know will come out during the year but have no clue when during that year(currently Bayonetta 3 doesn’t have a release year so the retailers are just saying the current year until we are in 2022(where it will change to December 31st 2022 until it gets a release date), same with other games like Digimon Survive) .

It doesn’t have to be exactly the 31st, but it pretty much does have to be in December or maybe late November at the earliest, this is not an online retailer giving us the date, this is Nintendo.

And again, the Min Min amiibo is coming 2022. Amiibos don’t take anywhere near as long to make as Smash dlc.

You guys ever think about how this thread’ll be done for in a month or two?
They're just gonna open up a new speculation thread for the next game. And then we all talk about how Disney either will or won't let Sora in for another four to six years until the next game is announced, or something stupid like that.

theres no rule though to say the character can’t be revealed in September. You’re using a placeholder date as proof that the last character will be revealed around there because you’re confident nabohino is the last character and it fits your views better.

the last character doesn’t need to be revealed in December. Nintendo decides when it gets revealed. There’s no way they said to themselves after kazuya released “ohh the pass doesn’t end till December so we’re gonna hold off the last fighter all the way down to December” which at the time would be 6 months away

Except for the fact that Pass 1 ended one month earlier(give or take a few days) from the release date.

Sorry man, it doesn't work that way. Placeholder dates are placeholder dates. They just mean "it must come out by this date" and nothing more. Also, delays are told us to and placeholder dates can change to be even later sometimes.

Ah, my bad. It is weird how little Smash gets celebrated.

I think the only rerelease has been the OG on the Wii. Though I guess the general public doesn’t care much about old Smash games when Ultimate is right there.
(Also Smash 64 saw a re-release on the iQue Player in China - in 2005. Although that was a portable N64.)

December 31st is a placeholder date.

They could absolutely release the remaining FP2 amiibos kinda alongside with post-CP11 patches: assuming that the amiibos "go gold" at the same rate as previous amiibo releases - which appear to be once or twice a year at the current rate, and loosely correlated with patches. B-K's, Terry's and Byleth's amiibos were released one month after :ultpyra: / :ultmythra: 's patch. We have no clue if Min Min's wave - early 2022 - is a solo wave or not (chanches are she's not alone) but regardless we can expect 2-3 remaining waves.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if we'll see post-CP11 support / balance patches lasting until early 2023.

But yet you think they will wait from June 2021 to January 2022 at the earliest to show off Steve’s amiibo and release Min Min’s amiibo after ending Smash dlc in September.

December 31st is not a placeholder, it is a deadline. Placeholders are for retailers.

Nah we're gonna talk about how Shin Megami Tensei V is the next big thing and a shoe-in for the next Smash title.

or at least, I will be.

Technically it is a deadline. That is, if stuff happens, it has to come out by then.

But there's no reason to believe realistically they need that much time. October even then would be pushing it, but we've seen some tough guys to work with(Steve and Min Min), so a slight wait longer, being 4 months, isn't that hard to believe.

No, the anniversary of Smash won't matter. If anything, we could get a last minute direct for some final update(like adding pieces to a new mode, or whatever that data is), but it won't have a character reveal because they're being revealed earlier(like, we're 99.99999999999999999999999999% sure of that).

yes. It’s literally Nintendo. I’m pretty sure sakurai has gone on in the pass and stated how amibo’s for characters aren’t easy to make. The amibo’s are going to be Happening past the passes finishing date. I guarantee Steve’s won’t be shows off till 2022

the choke force (if I’m thinking of it right)is something I’ve always warned to see in a fighter game. Seeing it in smash would be cool

Isn’t it just to give them wiggle room incase they need more time than expected? It’s not like they can make a perfect estimate, since something could be unexpected or something. It’s why a lot of developers don’t like giving release dates or deadlines.
