I keep watching the pyra and myphra trailer again and again as I’ve gotten used to the dialogue now and the more I watch the ending where they encounter shulk, the more I desperately want shadow In smash because I’d imagine the ending of his trailer would be practically the same as the ending of pyra and myphra’s.

Just change the wording to “that blue hedgehog again of all places” and then it’s perfect.

I thought we were joking when we called Sakurai a madman. Dude's out here made of 70% Coke Zero.
I know, right? Who even drinks Coke Zero? That stuff tastes like anything but actual Coke!

Exactly
Some ideas I had even though some of these have a super low chance of happening (besides Gill)

Rain from MK
Sub-Zero from MK
Rylai form Dota 2
Jack Frost from SMT
Glacius from KI
Amiti from Golden Sun
Undine from Tales Of
Gyrados
I didn't expect to see Amiti before the likes of Mia, Piers and Alex, but he's actually a decent shout.

The more I learn about Sakurai the more I can eventually see him going the way of Howard Hughes lol
I really hope he lives relatively long, my heart can’t take another Iwata case of dying young.

Unfortunately the idea of drinking soda instead of water on a regular basis doesn’t exactly increase my confidence in his health…..

By the way, this came out today. Basically confirms EVO 2022 will take play between August 5-7 and will be an in-person event.

I'm sharing it because it might be interesting news for some of you, but also because Smash appears in the video.

So between this and Sony already saying back then EVO was still open to fighting games from other platforms such as Smash or Killer Instinct, if Smash misses EVO 2022 that's going to be Nintendo's decision.

This clearly means a Sony character is getting in Smash!
:4pacman: :132::4pacman::132:

For real tho, it's nice that they got along and made Smash appear in EVO 2021. : ))

No wait. The beginning has to start with

"I found you faker!"
"Faker? I think you're the fake hedgehog around he-"
"I'll make you eat those words!"

OK now it's perfect.

I know he said he drinks Coke Zero, but why are people acting like he's drinking it more than anything else besides water? Why are we being certain he doesn't drink juice or milk or whatnot? While I use sparkling water and liquidizers to help with my water intake, the drink I have the most is milk, to the point where my consumption of milk would be comparable to that of some of the heaviest alcohol drinkers.

What? Really. Does that work regardless of what you are eating or where you are? I personally drink different beverages depending on either the context or to compliment what I am eating. I dont drink soda, coffee nor alcohol though so I might be a bit of an oddity myself.

Really. All the man said was he doesnt like the taste, not that he never drinks water and only drinks coke. I hate the taste of water and drink coffe most of the time but I still drink water

I feel like Sora is less someone saying no (though there are supposed reports about Disney of Japan saying no, but grain of salt and all that), and more Nintendo/Sakurai feeling like the franchise can't really be done justice without including Disney characters. And even if that's not true for the majority of Disney characters, considering how accurate to their base the DLC have been, Goofy and Donald--maybe even Mickey--would probably have to be somewhere (Spirits, victory animatons, maybe even taunts if they went through with it), and that's a major Disney hurdle, plus the problems with them not being video game characters originally.

Of course, that's all just my opinion/thoughts on the situation.

Yeah, if Sakurai were to go the extra mile and include Disney content with Sora, all hell would break loose with the likes of Goku stans flooding Nintendo's inboxes & social media with demands for him to be added to the game. If he winds up being asked about it in the future, I'm certain this is bound to be at least part of Sakurai's response.

DLC characters come without what Smash fans deem essential for their franchise's representation all the time.

Cloud and Sephiroth got in without almost anything from SNES FF games.
Bayonetta got in without anything that made her game rated M.
Joker got in without Jack Frost.
Banjo got in without Kazooie's personality.

Sora becoming playable with no Mickey isn't nearly as a big hurdle as people are making it up to be.

It's true, unfortunately.
Kingdom Hearts doesn't have enough memorable original characters
enough interesting original locations
enough breeds of enemies
or unique moveset potential for Sora
to support a playable Smash inclusion without seemingly shoving Disney content into every single facet.

After all, the only reason people care about Kingdom Hearts in any capacity is because Disney characters pop up in between the several dozen hours' worth of story, lore, and character building over the course of 10 games and 18 years.

Good post but Castle of Dreams is the Cinderella world.

Some excerpts from the interview.

Haven't watched the whole interview just yet, but that's understandable. People already runaway with some of the most ridiculous things Sakurai posts including PLASTIC CHAIRS of all things. Even as early as the days leading up to the release of Brawl you had people making videos speculating things like figures in the clouds in the clouds in the Sub Space Emissary hinting at the appearance of certain villains. If he was even simply photographed with another developer for a franchise unrelated to Smash the internet would explode.

Sakurai is a master of the soft power play and he's not going to tip his hand very much, if at all. The one thing smash fans should know better by now more than anything else is to expect the unexpected.

If you really want clues to Smash newcomers that badly, perhaps you should be keeping your eyes on developers whose lips are a bit looser.

Someone tell me how to get blurry text spoilers. I don't see the options/instructions.

I’m 60% confident the last character will be a new company. Just am. I’m ready to die on that Hill.
Honestly, nearly all of you aside from one other guy are sleeping on Marvelous even though you really shouldn't be. They're a bigger company than most people realize and have been steadily supporting the switch throughout its lifespan thus far.
  • Deamon X Machina
  • Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin
  • Multiple No More Heroes games
  • Two Senran Kagura games
  • At least two Story of Seasons games
  • At least one Fate game
That's just what I can name off of the top of my head without researching into specifics.

Plus, they're one of only two third-party publishers which have three separate IPs represented in SSBU (DxM, Sakuna, NMH) yet still don't have an actual fighter on the roster. The other is Ubisoft, as at this point we can probably safely consider Rayman and the Rabbids separate IPs from one another. But if I'm not mistaken, I vaguely recall that Rayman was deconfirmed by something their developers said. Also, unlike Ubisoft, all of Marvelous' representation is post-release. And if they had already gotten three different IPs into the games content it would be logical to assume they would at least try to get a character of theirs on the actual roster.

I mean, Marvelous doesn't own the rights to Fate, that's Type-Moon, and FGO, their big, BIG money-maker is Sony/Delightworks. If a Fate character got in, that wouldn't be a Marvelous character.

I seriously cannot see Senran Kagura get in for.... various reasons, to put it lightly.

Upon further inspection it seems you're correct about Fate. I must have assumed it was under Marvelous because of XSEED publishing the Switch game, since they are in fact a Marvelous subsidiary.

As for your other point, I will simply say that I am familiar enough with the series to comfortably conclude that there are enough ways around whatever obstacles you envision while still keeping the representation faithful to the source material. And also that I recognize a familiar pattern that is forming and is likely to play itself out once again.

Lest we forget Sakurai's words: "Smash is about making the impossible, possible."
