Finally caught up on that rumor. Definitely interesting to say the least. Wouldn't put it on par with Gematsu per say, which is a full on albeit very early development leak (not sure how much of a sore point I'm hitting here with my phrasing.), but could see it getting there in time especially if we see a Tales Of character.

Initially going for Chun Li doesn't surprise me, though I don't think they'll return to the idea. Would definitely be a big get though. Also more Maximilian Dood reactions are always welcome.

Steve/Hero are the most complex of the DLC characters by a long shot, so them being planned for the game and being cut would not be a surprise. Honestly kind of matches up with some of the Verg stuff we were hearing and know about the negotiations from Sakurai himself. Very amusing to hear the "Enix side of SE" being jealous of Cloud making it in first. Erdrick being planned as P1 at first, feels about right with how they've used him in promotional material during and since Hero's reveal. RIP Erdrick amiibo.

Sora/Geno stuff is kind of what has been theorized for a while, so the way they describe the hold ups on them sound very realistic from multiple standpoints both high and low.

The main difference between this and Gematsu is that the latter flat-out listed the characters we'd get in Smash. This rumor is basically, "Here are the characters they talked about. Not sure what happened to them."

Geno and Sephiroth could have switched roles and it probably wouldn't harm this rumor's credibility since it claims both were initially skipped over.

If I recall correctly Gematsu was also connected to some dude who said he saw one of Bowser’s alts. (the blue one), recreated it in Brawl, and ended up being proven right? I remember there was some thread that documented this stuff.

I believe Gematsu was a real leak, just with outdated info; iirc Sakurai even said something about Chrom being considered, and there’s unused data for a “Rhythm” icon or something in Smash 4’s files.

A rhythm heaven character is inevitable at some point it's the last (alive) Nintendo series not in smash bros. even if it isn't during fp2 or the next game mark my words, one day rhythm heaven will have a character in smash.

Wouldn't be the first time that certain fighters were previously planned but ended up MIA even today; Dixie Kong, Toon Zelda, Toon Sheik (Tetra?) and Plusle & Minun. These characters had unfinished files in Brawl implying that they were going to be playable at one point but got cut.

well yeah im just worried because of all the projects platinum get's compared to their size that there won't be another astral chain until the next decade. ring fit will probably get in as well. if theirs a fp3 i would say it's mostly going to be Nintendo characters and that those 3 would probably make it in.

im still hoping for rhythm heaven in fp2 though.

That's definitely a possibility, but in this case the characters talked about are third party who supposedly already entered the planning stage of development. This means that they already had licensed these properties, and it may not exactly be a wise decision to completely cut something out that belongs to a third party as it could potentially hurt relations. Granted, this really only applies if everything they said in the text leak was correct.

There hasn't been a game since 2016 and the guy who created the music said that Nintendo has not approached him. I'd say it's about as alive as WarioWare or Starfox. but on the Brightside it's not nearly as dead as Chibi-robo or Advanced Wars (It still hurts)

So while as of December 2020 it's not dead, it is not really alive either (as much as I want it to be)

I want a Rhythm Heaven rep I can't really see it unless something happens with the IP, Not even a full game even like a Mobile game or something.

Actually, the series's future is pretty dismal, with the next game hinging on fan demand. It's too early to pronounce it dead, but considering how niche it is...

In a shocking turn of events, all of our weird theories and wacky inconsistencies turn out to be correct.

Yuri and Velvet are both in. The Lloyd mii is back. This is why there's only space for two new series' in the sound test but three fighters - because two of them are from Tales Of.

The reason there's six fighters instead of five is because Nintendo still wanted to represent five companies.

Monster Hunter is the last fighter. The four voice slots belong to Yuri, Velvet, and Monhun M and F.

I'd love to have your confidence man, but I've been burned twice and Ultimate did next to nothing to expand on Rhythm Heaven's representation despite its presumed scrapped content from Smash 4. Not even an Assist Trophy. The song selection is still mediocre on account of none of them being songs composed by Tsunku (I imagine this has something to do with not wanting to go the extra mile and do the paperwork). What this tells me is that they didn't care enough about RH in particular. Which is okay I guess - priorities were elsewhere and I have no issues with the characters who were chosen instead, but with the state of DLC it seems unlikely they'll revisit it anytime soon.

If Rhythm Heaven is fortunate enough to get another game in the next few years I could rest a little easier. As of now the state of the series is in limbo with Nintendo seeming to focus on releasing bigger more profitable series a few times over the course of the year rather than letting their smaller series get a shot. If RH had a character in Smash then I believe the incentive would be there to put out a new one. Such is the fate of many series not fortunate enough to be picked. What stings the most is that we were almost there and now it looks so grim. I can't lie, I'm still a little bitter about it all.

I'll keep pushing for it once Smash 6 rolls around, but I can't be so confident anymore. It'll just make it all the more satisfying if it does happen.

Dante is an interesting case because there was some confusion around whether he was only scrapped for the base game and if there was a chance for work to pick back up on him for DLC.

I'm sure this conversation has come and gone already, but I think the reason why we're all suddenly so fixated on characters like Chun-Li and Robotnik/Eggman (aside from "leaks" and lucky guesses) is because Sephiroth's reveal pointed a giant spotlight on other third-party fighters that feel exceptionally missing in hindsight.

Chun-Li is one of gaming's biggest women both in terms of influence and popularity. She's arguably the second most iconic character in SF and almost always the second SF rep included in crossovers. Seeing Ryu and Ken get in without her doesn't feel right.

Seeing Sephiroth standing next to Bowser, Ganondorf, Dedede, Wolf, Ridley, and K. Rool makes Robotnik's absence feel all the more noticeable. He's literally the last truly iconic gaming villain not to be here.

I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more "leaks" pop up in this Post-Geno Era filled with characters from already-represented games.

I think that's the irony of the whole "Everyone is Here" promise. With such an insane amount of characters getting included, we actually start to look at the roster and feel like certain characters have been excluded.

Not very much. Lloyd has two swords and Yuri has one, plus some kicks and punches on the side. To strip them down to their bare, bare essentials, Lloyd is Arrowless Pit and Yuri is Fist Marth.
