I have a lot of characters I'd love to see.

However, I will answer your question mostly based on games that I played and enjoyed, with these games contains characters I'd love to see:

Tracer - I'm a Reaper main, but minus the Competitive shenanigans, I love OW.
Gill Grunt - Skylanders was my childhood. I applaud Activision for their originality with such a myriad of characters, whether it's by design or by backstory (most of them at least lol) We could also use more fighters that use water to attack!
Red - Angry Birds is up there for the biggest game ever. Mobile games are games too, and AB was one of my childhood games. I think that it getting two movies, a myriad of official merchandise, and pop culture references to it here and there shows how big it has become.
Crazy Dave - I think Plants vs Zombies content would be a godsend imo. EA showing us that they care about the series, giving us so many plants and levels to work with throughout the games. Garden Warfare is a great spinoff series, too.
Crash - I only have one Crash game, and am currently playing it: N Sane Trilogy. I will admit: I'm not falling in love with it or anything, but Crash's design is one that I like, and respect. And yea, Mario vs Sonic vs Crash would make many, and therefore me, happy.
Anyone from League of Legends - I got bored after playing the game for a week lmao, but I respect those who play it. I am amazed at how revolutionary it became for the Esports scene, and how beneficial it would be for those in China who want to get to play Smash and LoL and whatnot on a Switch.
Scorpion - I played MKX on my iPad and played MK9 and MK11 on my friend's Xbox. Ryu vs Scorpion would make the FGC go nuts, and I'm here for it.

Characters I'd love to see but whose games I have yet to play
Phoenix Wright - I never got my hands on the AA games myself. However, I watched the 2-season anime in full length, watched playthroughs of most of the games, and I'd love to see Phoenix.
Kratos - I plan to get a PS5. I've see many PS game, but wow... does God of War look good. Kratos, a character that I see as one built on both a bit of rage and a bit of love, would fit well in smash. After all, Bayo's our only Hack n Slash rep!
Doomguy - The grandfather of the FPS genre. All I need to say
Chief - God I'd love to hear a remix of the Halo theme in smash.
Sol Badguy - His hairline, and fire is my favorite element

Etc. : )
God I love Overwatch so much! Easily one of my favorite multi-player games of all time along with Smash. It has actually long since passed Smash Ultimate as the game I've sunk the most hours into on my Switch. I've been meaning to post on the Tracer support thread. I'm not very good with Tracer, but it's hard to imagine anyone representing OW other than her...

Just thought of a Frisk trailer idea:

Open with the scene in Banjo's trailer where K Rool fell and dove deep underground.
Cue K Rool in the Undertale art style, nearly boutta get taken advantage of by Flowey, only for Frisk to save him.

I can somewhat see how the crowd will be like when the character(s) announcements for Ultimate appears. As FP2 is nearing its end, stakes are at the point of falling HARD due to the high bets. It is a hit or miss, but don't invest too much to avoid busting your salt dam.

Here is a random video to shake off some of the tension
Plot twist: That game opening is the character reveal for Smash. We're getting Wes in Smash.:4pacman:

Quick question, are you getting the Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart this Friday? (For those that own a PS5.)

Another, do you think Ratchet and Clank have a chance for Ultimate's roster or no?

One week. Crazy to think we might either be done in a week, or have just one character left in order to be done.

Anywho, "final" predictions:

Challenger Pack 10

I think CP10 is going to be our last "big" pick of the game. Personally, I'm going with either:
  • Master Chief. There's been Switch teases from Microsoft, our two Microsoft characters so far were shown off in the E3 period, and the timing is the best possible for him (and for any western rep - I'd argue this is their last chance).
  • A League of Legends rep (betting on Ahri). Huge in markets that Nintendo is trying to get in, they have ongoing deals with Tencent, Riot has games announced for the Switch and has shown interest in Smash in the past. Honestly, regardless of Smash, I'm expecting something from Riot at E3.
  • Dante. I'm personally still digesting how we got DMC on the Switch in the same timeframe where we learned that "it would be nice if he got to Nintendo consoles before Smash". Plus, Capcom is arguably the third party with the most content from different series in Smash, so if anyone else is gonna double dip, I'm betting on Capcom.
Challenger Pack 11

I think CP11 is either a "smaller" 3rd party or a first party. Personally leaning towards the latter.
  • Octoling. Splatoon 2 has arguably as much content as XC2 had pre-Pyra/Mythra, regardless of the Squid Sister Miis. Plus, with Splatoon 3 coming next year, it's probably a decent tie-in for Nintendo.
  • Ayumi. FDC is coming to the west, Nintendo seems to be pushing it a fair bit, and Sakurai has at least entertained the idea before.
  • Either another double dip (probably either from Sega, Namco or Capcom, but it most likely won't be any of their biggest series - like Tales or DMC) or, in the 1% or less chance that Hayabusa's interview wasn't a disconfirmation, then him.

I can't see Master Chief being CP10.
"Finishing the fight" sounds too good to me tbh; I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo knew of the phrase beforehand.
CP11, Mii Costume, or nothing at all imo.

There is no guarantee that Capcom has one more as Nintendo has kept all information sealed tight. Sure Microsoft and Square Enix had a second one in FP2, but don't think about the pattern.

Oh yeah I'm fully aware of that. Not saying they're guaranteed a new character, I'm just saying they have a good chance.

I just had a thought:

Would it be considered TOO late if Nintendo wanted to add a character this late in the pass for the purpose of grabbing the attention of a NEW audience to try the corresponding character in Smash? As the DLC wraps up?

I'm 50/50 on this. Sephiroth was the 3rd of 6 in FP2, but I've see many FF fans say "I GOTTA GET A SWITCH/SMASH NOW WTF!?"
Who knows. : d

To me, that seems a plausible choice. It however may not last long if DLC is ending on FP2 and no more are coming.

What do people think if another official ballot comes up from Nintendo and Sakurai?

I know League of Legends is a huge franchise right now but I’m curious about something. Would you guys say it is a bigger deal today than WoW/Warcraft/Hearthstone was in its prime? I think there is something to say about legacy even if Warcraft is no longer as big of a deal as it once was.

You have to keep in mind that all of the character specific taglines in the reveal trailers are really just localization quirks provided by Treehouse/Nintendo of America. In Japan, all of the taglines are simply "_____ Joins the Battle!" and it'd be the same for Master Chief, so that wouldn't really matter to Nintendo.

It's very possible they'll aim for smaller audiences than they did with Steve and Sephiroth (which, to be honest, isn't really saying much), but I don't think it makes sense for Nintendo to suddenly stop looking for new people to market toward. They've still got two opportunities to extend that reach even further than they already have, so even if the next two picks are lowkey I'm confident there's still room for Smash's audience and DLC's consumer base to grow.

Like, even Byleth was added because they were a character Switch owners would be intimately familiar with from a game that they had just finished playing. Terry, as everyone knows, is big in Latin America but also caters directly to the FGC and a classic arcade demographic of players that may skew older than most of the other characters. So I'm sure that kind of thing is always on Nintendo's mind, even if Steve and Sephiroth were likely all that were needed to make a profit.

Going off of this article from over 8 years ago, I'd say it's a super tough call

Warcraft came out in 2004 and has a major Esports and PC related legacy, AND A MOVIE

LoL's, as discussed in the article, one of the most played games ever. That's BIG for a game that came out in 2009. Also revolutionized the Esports scene, just like Warcraft did.

I'd LEAN a bit more towards League though. But yea, it's really 50/50 imo

If it’s AFTER dlc ends, I don’t see the harm in it

if they do a repeat of 4 though and run the ballot while dlc is still going… lord have mercy

later guys, if I find anything interesting I’ll pop in to share it

That's a bit of a hard question. I do know that last year's Worlds was supposed to be the biggest ever if not for COVID. But it's hard to compare the current period to previous periods in LoL history because it's... insanely atypical to say the least. Even moreso because I'm not familiar with WoW and Hearthstone.

However, I will say that if LoL was in a bad moment, we wouldn't be getting all those different spinoffs or those big events. I'm not sure about the comparison you proposed, but I'd argue that in spite of League getting stumped by COVID, it's doing pretty well. Wild Rift and Legends of Runeterra are also big successes and get constant updates.

I'm inclined to agree. It's kinda like when people said "Brawl will be the last Smash Bros because the USA commercial said it was "the Brawl to end them all". "

But yeah, actually I just wanted to reply and say that I really like how your profile pic is that humanoid dinosaur Troodon thing from that dinosaur documentary from when I was a kid. Christopher Reeves was in it.

Idk about y'all but if we do get someone from League, I'd wanna see how League players like Pokimane and Tyler1 react to it lmao
Also, looked for fun, and found out that this champion here, Riven, was based on :ultmarth:!

I honestly think that both League of Legends and Warcraft deserve a character in Smash. I love the character designs from both games too so I’d love if either got in. I just feel a little bad how pretty much everyone in the Smash community completely ignores Warcraft so I always try to give it a little attention.

I wonder how outdated the ballot information would become if they did it in the near future. There’s probably going to be a long break between the end of Ultimate DLC and the next Smash game, and, in that time, new characters would come into relevance, other characters might lose popularity, ect.

Probably like this:

And yeah! Specifically, Melee Marth, if I remember correctly. From the wiki:

  • During development she was simply called Marth or Exile.
  • Riven's abilities were inspired by Marth (her production name) from Fire Emblem (Broken Wings Broken Wings references Dancing Blade from Super Smash Bros. Melee)
Inb4 "Riven is our ninth FE rep". :4pacman:

God I love Overwatch so much! Easily one of my favorite multi-player games of all time along with Smash. It has actually long since passed Smash Ultimate as the game I've sunk the most hours into on my Switch. I've been meaning to post on the Tracer support thread. I'm not very good with Tracer, but it's hard to imagine anyone representing OW other than her...
I just crossed 2222 hours myself, all I play these days is Mystery Heroes. I love the cast of characters they've got, and although Tracer is the obvious choice, the implications of a character who blinks around and rewinds her position sounds like an absolute NIGHTMARE for wifi. I don't think the world is ready for that character online.

I can't see Master Chief being CP10.

CP11, Mii Costume, or nothing at all imo.
Imma take Chief whenever I can get him, though I do agree that it'd be a best case scenario.

To be honest, I felt like people were too quick to count out Capcom because of the Mii Costumes. They were included because the timing was right for advertising, and Capcom has a lot more material for more Mii Costumes.

I feel like they have a good chance of getting one last character in.
Yeah maybe it's just me trying to find an excuse or a justification as to why the previous wave of costumes wasn't a disconfirmation for a potential Capcom rep, but I truly do believe the circumstances around it were a bit strange. Sakurai himself said (assuming the english translation was 100% accurate) that the Capcom costumes were because Monster Hunter: Rise was releasing soon. So that to me could imply that this was basically a promotional set of costumes that Capcom asked for or whatever, but the point is that all the costumes were related to Monster Hunter and Ghost and Goblins, both games that were not only getting a new release around that timeframe, but also are temporarily exclusive games of Switch (1 year for Rise, 3 or 6 months for GnG if I'm not mistaken), so Nintendo themselves were probably interested with the idea.

So for me Capcom is still alive, even if they're not that likely as an option anymore. I would have considered them completely out of the running if we had got a Dante/Phoenix Wright/Amaterasu costume, or SF costumes. Basically, Capcom costumes for games that weren't relevant at the time of the presentation. That wasn't the case so I still feel they're not entirely out.

Though I agree that the best chance for a Capcom character at this point is E3. Specially for the likes of Dante, Chun-Li or Phoenix Wright. If for some reason we get a Capcom character and we get Amaterasu, I could see her being the last character. Phoenix Wright is more flexible here, I feel. I could see him being revealed at E3, but also being the last character revealed.
