"Shill pick" as a term is so weird to me because it's applied to characters completely arbitrarily.

Like, how many people who complain about XC2 characters also think that we shouldn't have gotten Lucas because he's added for promotion?

Honestly, at this point, "Shill pick" may as well be synonymous with "1st party character from a current-gen game" pick.


Neither ARMs nor XB2 are new games, they're both like, 3 years old at this point, but they're considered "Shill picks".

Times change.

Nowadays, Smash is all about the crossover appeal of "Bringing worlds together" as people like Sakurai and Reggie have put it in the past. There's nothing wrong with liking or wanting Nintendo characters in Smash, hell, Pythra are some of my favorites added, but it's also not hard to see that 3rd party characters are the big "WOW" factor. You expect a Nintendo character to be added in a Nintendo game, it's a shock when a big 3rd party name can beat the **** out of Mario and Pikachu.

There's also how we have like 60 Nintendo characters meaning most people are fully satisfied with the Nintendo content. I'd love to see a Bloodborne character like Lady Maria, but that's never happening because of Sony. Even if Sony somehow joined Smash, I feel like Kratos would be the first pick. It's a shame as I think a Yharnam stage would be awesome.

Also an Arknights rep (99% would be Amiya), now that I've picked up the game recently. I dunno if the company that makes it has ever interacted with Nintendo before, though, and it's way too recent to be taken into account for DLC anyways.

I have a lot of characters I'd love to see.

However, I will answer your question mostly based on games that I played and enjoyed, with these games contains characters I'd love to see:

Tracer - I'm a Reaper main, but minus the Competitive shenanigans, I love OW.
Gill Grunt - Skylanders was my childhood. I applaud Activision for their originality with such a myriad of characters, whether it's by design or by backstory (most of them at least lol) We could also use more fighters that use water to attack!
Red - Angry Birds is up there for the biggest game ever. Mobile games are games too, and AB was one of my childhood games. I think that it getting two movies, a myriad of official merchandise, and pop culture references to it here and there shows how big it has become.
Crazy Dave - I think Plants vs Zombies content would be a godsend imo. EA showing us that they care about the series, giving us so many plants and levels to work with throughout the games. Garden Warfare is a great spinoff series, too.
Crash - I only have one Crash game, and am currently playing it: N Sane Trilogy. I will admit: I'm not falling in love with it or anything, but Crash's design is one that I like, and respect. And yea, Mario vs Sonic vs Crash would make many, and therefore me, happy.
Anyone from League of Legends - I got bored after playing the game for a week lmao, but I respect those who play it. I am amazed at how revolutionary it became for the Esports scene, and how beneficial it would be for those in China who want to get to play Smash and LoL and whatnot on a Switch.
Scorpion - I played MKX on my iPad and played MK9 and MK11 on my friend's Xbox. Ryu vs Scorpion would make the FGC go nuts, and I'm here for it.

Characters I'd love to see but whose games I have yet to play
Phoenix Wright - I never got my hands on the AA games myself. However, I watched the 2-season anime in full length, watched playthroughs of most of the games, and I'd love to see Phoenix.
Kratos - I plan to get a PS5. I've see many PS game, but wow... does God of War look good. Kratos, a character that I see as one built on both a bit of rage and a bit of love, would fit well in smash. After all, Bayo's our only Hack n Slash rep!
Doomguy - The grandfather of the FPS genre. All I need to say
Chief - God I'd love to hear a remix of the Halo theme in smash.
Sol Badguy - His hairline, and fire is my favorite element

Man I have absolutely no idea if Cortez counts or not because like the rights to TimeSpitters were acquired in 2018, then Steve Ellis got hired back into the company in 2019 so he feels like he has a chance of appearing in Fighter Pass 2 but at the same time it's still a pretty obscure series so I don't know.

So I will just go with Ark from Terranigma because I know he's not happening but he would be awesome!

Points to my Most Wanted.

While that may suffer from no interaction with Nintendo, obscurity in Japan (as opposed to LoL), and infamous for being filled with "Stop Having Fun" guys to a perhaps even larger extent than League thanks to it being "League but not streamlined, instead embracing a lot of mechanics"...

Man I'd love a Dota 2 representative, because the game is beautiful jank (same reason I am a Melee fan, of course) and it has a lot of creativity both with gameplay, worldbuilding etc. As well as one of the most dedicated main devs in the video game business. A lot of the characters hailing from that game would suit best as ATs (Magnus the centaur / rhino hybrid who specialises in giving allies / self cleave and stunning people in an AoE, for instance) like League it would have a lot of potential playable candidates. Shameless Morphling shilling here.

Almost all of my most wanted characters fall into this category but my number one favorite video game character ever is Zegram Ghart from Rogue Galaxy. Magus and Battletoads are close runners up.

I posted about Zegram yesterday but I might as well again since you asked .

As for some of my other favorites, I made this a while back. It’s just a lot quicker to repost the picture than list off every character but you can see that most of my most wanted characters don’t have much a realistic chance.

Yeah, everyone is still holding out. Just be prepared for the unexpected character(s) reveal once the announcement begins.

It could be the most requested, ones that some or most people weren't expecting, or sleeper picks. It will be time for the offical news to drop, but for now prepare as inevitable salt is arriving as well.

Edit: For the Sakurai Presents, for Challenger 10. I think days later after the reveal. Challenger 11 may appear months later in the fall.

Yeah I agree. Once all the DLC comes out I think I’ll finally start setting up my Switch to use mods. There are already a bunch of great ones out there I’ve been holding off on. That should definitely hold my interest for a very long time.

I can somewhat see how the crowd will be like when the character(s) announcements for Ultimate appears. As FP2 is nearing its end, stakes are at the point of falling HARD due to the high bets. It is a hit or miss, but don't invest too much to avoid busting your salt dam.
