It me. I like Balan Wonderworld.
I thought it mighta been you! I was actually thinking of tagging you directly, but I'm terrible with names, and if I was wrong, imagine getting a notification out of nowhere that someone thinks you're, like, a Bubsy fan. I didn't want to do that, hehe!

I think the biggest problem to this solution would simply be Nintendo's stubborn refusal to make the majority of their library available on their modern systems and sticking to the "Disney Vault" model. Even if they have less characters, a lot of people do sometimes get the urge/curiousity to play the earlier games in the series again for various reasons, but alas, there's hardware degradation and $200+ pricetags in the way.

So yeah, I can see your point of view, but Nintendo always creates more problems with their stubbornness. Who knows how many Switches will still be working in 20+ years? The Joy Cons are already a mess now with their drifting.
Who the hell plays smash with joycons?

I’m tellin u

Project X Zone 3 with more Smash characters including Nintendo ones + Smash hopefuls

Don’t limit the Nintendo characters to FE and Xenoblade either; include Pit, Palutena, Officer Howard (currently a Spirit), Off the Hook (currently a Spirit) even Captain Falcon

that way your MW if they’re in PXZ3 can be in Smash “vicariously”
This is my dream game.

For the love of Palutena, please Bandai give us a new Project X Zone game.

With Atlus being a part of Sega now, Joker’s a shoo in for 3 I feel

seeing Square would be neat too, and SNK

That's the entire reason i want a X Zone 3 announced within the next few years, so we get Persona 5 stuff instead of Persona 6 stuff.

Joker and Queen pair unit lets go.

hopefully Bayonetta finally joins like she was supposed to in 2 as well

Captain Falcon and Samus for a Nintendo duo of bounty hunters, teaming up for the same bounty in the story.

Nintendo do themselves no favors with their bizarre stance on commercializing old games. I don't think that'll be a problem with Ultimate though. Someone who gets into Smash through a game after this won't be nostalgic for that one time there were no cuts. Missing Ultimate will only be a problem people that already own a Switch and Ultimate have. It's the best selling fighting game ever, not something like Earthbound that'll be discovered decades from now.
Imagine a Smash Cinematic Universe though...
Don't get me started man last time this was brought up I wrote essays

This is a roster with the scope of an SRW game, which technically Project X Zone is a spin off of. But i never though of X Zone having a roster that big.

I've seen a lot of people talk about how they hope the next Smash, or the Smash series from now on, just builds upon Ultimate and never cuts anyone ever again.

To those people I want to say... Please, if the next Smash doesn't do that, just stick to Ultimate. I really don't want a repeat of the Melee crowd wanting every single Smash game to be Melee again, until they realized that they would keep playing Melee anyway. If you can't go back to any game with cuts, you'll always be able to come back to Ultimate for whatever character gets the axe.

I know in a way it's inevitable that the fandom splits again after this between the people who blame every veteran for their most wanted not getting in and the ones that curse Sakurai's name because Young Link didn't return, but still. I can already see the fandom wars brewing and... Is it possible to be tired of something just by imagining it? Sure feels that way.

Personally I care about the new content more than the returning, and I know that I wouldn't even notice if a chunk of Ultimate's veterans weren't there. "Everyone is Here" was fantastic but it didn't come without its drawbacks and I'd be more critical of the shortcomings that would arise in any future entry that repeated it.
Same.

Like, I wouldn't complain if the next Smash game managed to keep Ultimate's roster, but at the same time that would mean less new content, including few newcomers. And that scenario again would be kinda boring.

Ultimate is a one time thing and I love the game, but I also think it kinda sucks how very few new stages we got in base game, for example. For me one of the exciting things of Smash is to see new content, and Ultimate's base content obviously aimed for bringing back all the characters in the series and most of stages, so there was little room for new stages and fighters. I don't really want that to happen again, to be honest.

Maybe it's because I would be okay with most characters being cut. Some of them are obviously not going anywhere for different reasons, but even if some of my favorite and most played characters such as Ike or Palutena got cut, which would suck for me, I'd be still be very excited for the new content.

Achievements have always been so... nothing to me that it just feels bizarre to treat them like a necessary feature.
They're not at all necessary, but I do like having them.

And ironically, a lot of Nintendo games like Smash and Pokemon already have them, it's just that Nintendo doesn't have a system-level account-based collection of them.

what if they get both final DLCs (+ the one bonus if there is one) out of the way... but also tease the next Smash??
That seems like it would undermine DLC sales.

"Why pay for this now when it might be included in the next game?"

I think its likely Nintendo/Sakurai knew there would be pushback against Byleth but figured there'd be enough of the FE fanbase/a subset of Smash fans to still make their inclusion worth it.
I think its likely Sakurai knew there would be pushback against Byleth, but Nintendo didn't care if there was.

Here’s my X Zone 3 roster that isn’t necessarily a “Smash Bros” one but does have some peeps that appeared in Smash in some form, and still feels true to PXZ spirit (including some new companies in limited quantities and no brainers from the base three companies of Sega, Capcom and Bamco)
deep breath

Well, here's what I got so far, including things I'm debating on including. No furries or excessively cartoony characters, I'll consider Splatoon safe. Some of the OG companies (Sega, Capcom, Bamco) may be downsized and new companies may be limited in new characters but that's to have as much diversity as possible and keep everyone equally represented as possible.

You've removed practcially all the cool obscure Namco and SEGA characters to fit in Nintendo characters i see every week.

Isnt PXZ technically the successor to Namco X Capcom?
Yes but it's been made official Robot Wars canon as a spin off since Robot Wars Moon Dwellers mentions the events of X Zone when Zanger and Haken show up.

Idk but I think you can still keep Everyone Is Here AND have new content, if the next smash builds off Ultimate. Ultimate had a little less cuz it was bringing the Melee and Brawl vets that were missing back. But you’d have everyone there already in a perfect successor, just tweak what you got and you’d have more time for new stuff

Personally i would rather they add more obscure Nintendo characters in the same way there's obscure Sega and Namco characters in these games.

Like Henry and Isaac as solo units.

Hmmmmm, I do see your point; hopefully I'll be able to remember that the next time I formulate my list even further.

Edit: You mentioned "fit in." I must state that I didn't have a limit in mind when adding characters.

All we need now is X Zone to be canon to Smash. Ryu, Ken, Chrom, Lucina, Fiora, Bayonetta or any other new Smash peeps added to the next X zone could mention like Master Hand or the World of Light incident idk

A split in the fanbase is inevitable come the next game tbh. Maybe not as drastic as Melee's was, but it's going to happen.

Wouldnt surprise me if World of light is mentioned in a future X Zone game, since Namco's crossovers all seemingly take place in the same lore and Smash Ultimate IS developed by Namco.

Wouldn't mind at all, or CGI.

One day, CGI Steve will return...
Also, CGI Ryu when 👀
I still don't quite understand why so many people seem to want a Smash movie/show/whatever. The vast majority of the characters don't even speak...it feels hard to imagine such a thing existing and not being completely cheesy.

Same.

I can see it both ways. I'm personally in the camp that just prefers they add more characters though. Other than a few glaring design flaws in Ultimate (bad online, crappy buffer system, etc.) I'm pretty happy with the mechanics of Ultimate and it feels more or less like the franchise has been "solved" gameplay wise. Ultimate was especially impressive in its effort to balance so many characters so well. On the other hand, if a new Smash game comes out and it's missing a lot of the previous roster it would definitely get a lot of negative backlash. People complained when clone characters that few people cared about got removed from Melee / Brawl. Imagine how they'll feel when the next game comes out and all their beloved 3rd party characters are missing.

So for me, milking Ultimate for at least a good several years feels like the best outcome. Just print deluxe or ultimate editions like other fighting games have done forever, and Nintendo has a formula for success for many years to come and they can take their sweet time with the next installment and try their best to keep the roster as in tact as possible.

My stance on the "Ultimate 2 v. New Smash" thing is... Well, how long can we keep building on Ultimate before it starts to get stale? You love pizza so much you wish you could eat it all the time, and your wish is granted. How long till you start getting sick of pizza? Well, that and me not caring that much about a large chunk of the roster but I've already addressed that. I'd just rather have something new every console instead of staying stuck in the past.

The other thing is that Ultimate is basically the pinnacle of Smash in it's current form, so there isn't much else to go roster-wise. I'd honestly prefer a reboot of the formula in general, just so the next game won't be stuck in Ultimate's shadow.

believe it or not the roster isn’t the only thing that matters

smash 6 can be good even with cuts
It's not the only thing

But the roster is why we're spending soo much time on this site debating who the DLC is, and to that, the roster is a big, BIG part of Smash, big enough to be used as a marketing gimmick for Ultimate via "EVERYONE IS HERE".

The game's called Ultimate for a reason..
This game will only either be equally matched, superior, or inferior to a hypothetical "Ultimate Deluxe"

A somwhat maniacal but also curious part of my brain wants to know how they‘d design a new Smash game with a launch day SFV-tier tiny roster. Would they manage, or at least attempt, to improve the depth of each character while maintaining ease of use? Would they focus mostly on modes?

I mean, it's always going to be in Ultimate's shadow even with a reboot, only after they build off said reboot will it not.

Like, I don't think it's a bold claim to make that the next game will be very "Melee vs Brawl" in terms of feeling, or worse, "Classic Paper Mario vs Modern Paper Mario."
