Literally the only licensing issues would be with the composer of Dragon Quest whose name we shall not speak
Sakurai announced that Hero will be in the basegame with all content in tact and more due to the rights being passed down due to Sugiyama's passing, cut to Sugiyama freaking the **** out on what he means before hearing a loud knocking on his door

I mean wouldn't it just be the same game basically just more additional content. If it were Smash 6 or a reboot then I'd understand.
It would probably sell less than Ultimate because I don't know if people would want to buy a game they already have again but with more content.

If Ultimate did get ported, what do you guys wish would come with it?
My hope is for WoL epilogue featuring a smaller story. That and the return of a proper all star mode.
Setting aside the obvious of "add characters I want"...
  • A platforming-focused Melee-styled adventure mode.
  • Assist Trophies based on franchises added in DLC (Creeper, for example).
  • More spirits based on currently-unrepresented properties (other Final Fantasy games included).
  • Re-add certain cut stages (Rainbow Road and Pac-Maze come to mind).
  • Additional songs. I'd like more tracks from Undertale, as well as music from Shovel Knight, No More Heroes, Cave Story, and TWEWY (assuming none of these become fighters, in which case their music is inevitable anyway).
  • SOMETHING representing Porky (properly, not just the Absolutely Safe Capsule as a joke), whether it be a spirit, his boss fight, or him as a character.
  • I'm fine with spirits replacing trophies, but bringing back the descriptions would be great.

Honestly, I really hope Ultimate isn't ported. If it's handled like MK8D, it'll probably be all of the DLC added in the base game at no extra cost, plus maybe an extra mode or two and a handful of new Spirits.

I can't see them releasing two Smash games on the same console, so if Ultimate Deluxe becomes a reality, that'll be our Smash game for the next five to seven years. Personally, I'd rather say goodbye to some characters and stages and get a game with a ton of new content than to cling on to everything we have now and get a game that's essentially the same thing but with a few additions.
I think that if Ultimate were to get a port, I think it probably would have more effort in it than MK8D.

The question is though, is how much more effort? because if it's just a "bit more" effort or "somewhat more" effort, I don't see myself getting that excited or hyped over said Ultimate port. I might still get it because I like Smash that much, but I wouldn't be as excited to boot it up like I was past Smash games. now if this hypothetical port was to have "alot more" effort in terms of characters additions, gameplay/online fixes and additions and whatnot then I could possibly be excited.

But yeah, I'm in the camp of, if they don't go ham on a hypothetical Ultimate port, I'd probably just prefer an entirely new game as well.

I did the same with MK8D back when I first got my Switch. I bought base MK8 back in 2014 and I had no problems buying Deluxe (you know, one of the best-selling Switch games).

Mario Kart 8 was originally for the Wii U, which hardly anyone bought.

Selling less than Ultimate has is a non-issue because it's sold so absurdly well in it's own right that they shouldn't expect to come close to it in anyway

DESCRIPTIONS. YES. those lore blurbs made me check out other games in represented Smash series and I was a bit sad they were gone

Conversely, I didn't find "Mario Kart 8, but now it has a bunch of things that it should have had to begin with + Inklings, and the DLC you already bought" all that enticing.

But is it really a good idea? Smash will become as stale as Pokemon.

because apparently according to some already having a working model is good enough and means there's no reason to do anything with that character ever again.
Some people love acting like DLC of a character who's an assist trophy would be the exact same as a DLC pack that replaces K. Rool with Dixie Kong, even though it'd be more like Sephiroth's challenger pack, if anything. Taking minimal representation and expanding it to something even bigger.

They name it Super Smash Bros Special: Ultimate Edition in Asia and Super Smash Bros Ultimate: Special Edition in the US/EU/Australian regions. This is how Vergil can still win.:yeahboi:
Sakurai subverts expectations by having Super Smash Bros Ultimate: Special Edition's announcement not even show Smash at first, it's just Dante and Vergil fighting until Vergil flashes a Smash invite

Given we're also half-way through the pass until otherwise, I feel Min Min was an exception due to being under the request of her creator.
Offices of Nintendo

John Nintendo: "mr sakurai here is our proposal for challenger pack 6"

Sakurai: "who is it"

John Nintendo: "min min from arms"

Sakurai: "....excuse me? The ** did you just say to me, you little ***? Did you just have the ****ing audacity to suggest that I put in a character that has already been represented in any way, shape or form, in MY VIDEO GAME!!!!????"

Sakurai starts to scream like a ****ing gorilla, trashing the entire office, slamming tables on the ground, punching computers, throwing employees out the window

John Nintendo: "but sir it was a request from mr yabuki"

Sakurai: "......fine then. But just this one time."

A Mii costume is different. Its a costume, not a full-fledged model.

As mentioned the most I see of these "assist promotions" are Miis like Bomberman.
The Bomberman costume is a full-fledged model, just they reused the AT's model with maybe minor tweaks if any. The model completely replaced the Mii's body, they didn't fit the mii inside it; it's just like the Creeper and Pig miis, and sorta Sans and Cuphead though their bodies are more human.

They could just make ATs as miis, though a few already got miis in the base-game, and I still don't understand how this disconfirms anymore potential AT upgrades.

I think they see mii costumes as something they can do to make fans at least somewhat happy when they can't make them full fighters due to prioritizing others and not having enough time, especially since Sakurai does appear to see them as at least close to being a fighter of that character. Who knows, maybe another character that was an AT was chosen to be made playable, or maybe none of them were, idk.

If anything, already having a model they can build upon would just save time.

As for Min Min being requested by her creator, remember that Sakurai also considered Ninjara at least, who was also represented already.

The people deciding on if Smash were to be ported or not don't care about how "stale" it gets so long as it keeps making bank.
Incidentally, Sword and Shield are on track to surpass Gen 2 as the second highest selling games behind Gen 1.

This would actually be the first instance of a Smash game having an upgraded version as an entirely different game, unlike Pokemon.
GameFreak: "Wa- Uh- I'll have you know that we made the ending of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon way worse than in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. They're totally different games now!"

But think about it.

More additional characters (Ones that included assists).
More additional stages
More additional modes and content (Board the Platforms, Break the Targets, Boss Rush, WoL extended more story and cutscenes notably, etc.

Win-Win.
It's not a win for me. I'd much rather see another Splatoon 2 or Ultimate where they reuse a lot of assets to make a new game. Both of those games saved a lot of development time by doing that, and they still managed to feel completely different from their predecessors.

Ports are convenient for me if there's a game that I'd like to see on the current console; something that could be ported and not effect future installments. I don't want a port to take the place of a potential new game, and that's exactly what Ultimate Deluxe would do. Unless they add a lot of new content (and I mean a LOT), I can't see myself getting as excited for a port that adds a few new characters and stages, Break the Targets, Boss Rush, and an extended WoL as I would with a game that adds about ten new characters, thirty or forty new stages, and potentially and entirely new story mode.

Honestly, I think a Port could change several older characters in the same way they changed Link, giving them new moves based off of new Source Material, alongside 3 new characters. Probably characters normal consumers wouldn't buy as DLC, like:
Lyn
Bandanna Dee
DFO Creator, for example.

I'm sorry. But he would really be a better base game pick. I couldn't imagine massive fan requests like K Rool or Ridley being DLC.

Since there has been some talking about spirits, I was thinking about while playing through spirit battles how fun it could be if there was spirit battle challenges specific to each spirit battle that could provide extra rewards when completed the first time around (and also extra points if you complete them during the rematch feature). Obviously the rewards would scale with your spirit power, so you wouldn't get a lot, if anything, from completing a challenge with a 12000 spirit power team in a mere novice spirit battle.

Here's some ideas I had for potential spirit battle challenges.
Buzz Buzz: Land more than three hits.
Pauline: Defeat Mario and Donkey Kong.
Dan Hibiki: Don't let the opponent taunt more than three times.
Dr. Light: Defeat the main opponent without KOing or dealing more than 30% damage to the Mega Man opponent.
King Hippo: Stun the opponent at least once.
Victini: Don't get hit by a Final Smash.
Black Shadow: Land a fist attack as the finishing blow.
King Bob-omb: KO the opponent with a bob-omb.
Little Birdie: Don't let the opponent grow giant.
Aerith: Land a down air attack as the finishing blow.

I think one problem with the notion of "Smash Ultimate Deluxe", outside of licensing issues, is really the fact that the next Nintendo system will more than likely be backwards compatible with the Switch's library. There may not be much of an incentive to re-release Ultimate when you can already just play this game on this new hardware.

In a hypothetical Ultimate port, I'd like to see more bosses. Bring Porky and Rayquaza back. Since the series has a lot of playable characters, add a Fire Emblem boss. I don't know who/what would be appropriate as one, but I'm sure something could be worked out. Bring back the Sephiroth boss fight for at least Cloud's Classic Mode, if not maybe a few other characters too. Add Kraid, Lord Fredrik, and Andross bosses to round things out.

Just because Bomberman was Mii Costumed, doesn't mean the idea of promotions are dead. There are still other Potential characters like Waluigi, Shadow, Isaac, Shovel Knight that have their own merits to be Promoted

Selling less than Ultimate has is a non-issue because it's sold so absurdly well in it's own right that they shouldn't expect to come close to it in anyway
It could be an issue if perhaps the cost of all the licensing + all the added content really adds up

A Hypothetical Smash port doesn't have to sell exactly as much as Ultimate, but it needs to be around the same ballpark. A Port selling perhaps only 1/4 of the copies of Ultimate would not be good, because with all the licensing Nintendo has to pay, along with the development costs, it's likely they won't make much of a profit as if they just perhaps retooled the game in it's own right

The issue also with comparing MK8 and MK8D to a Hypothetical Smash port is that the original Mario Kart 8 was on Wii U, which was one of the worst selling Nintendo Systems. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe works so well because for a Large majority of people, this is their first experience to Mario Kart.

For Smash, 20 Million people are already exposed to this game thanks to the Switch ecosystem. A Simple port won't cut it. What they could do is Rebrand the game as something entiringly new with perhaps different Selling Points (Like maybe over 100 characters), along with added modes like Story (with Platforming), battle royale modes, Customization, etc.

Of course it's that balance of the development costs, amount of licensing, and potential profit.

If there is a port though I imagine there's a plan already in place for it. Perhaps the reason there is no Fighter Pass 3 it's a much better idea to just make an entirely different game. There's probably negotiations going on right now for the future Smash game. That also could perhaps be what the Apex Rumor or League rumors lead too if they aren't playable in this Pass
