Liu Kang is essentially the Guile of Mortal Kombat. Often put into the protagonist role, especially for adaptations but the power/design/personality of Scorpion & Sub Zero often have people drawn towards the likes of them.
In that case, if Scorp or Sub-Zero were to join Smash, then the MK universe's Assist Trophy could be Liu Kang?

New Assist Trophy: Liu Kang
Function: Does his OG Fatality on the nearest opponent.

No fighting game Assist Trophy can escape the meme functions.
Does Liu have any non-gory fatalities, so as to still be for good boys and girls?

Speaking of fatalities, would Scorpion's be kid-friendly enough? I know there's no gore there, but the guy removes the skin and flesh (and probably also organs, such as eyeballs) from his skull as part of his fatality.

His head acts more like a mask during the thing (EDIT: At least, that's how I interpreted it), so I think they could work it just fine.

Funny enough, Liu is actually notorious for having the only non-lethal Fatality in MK1.

This plus the screen not darkening during the fatality were supposed to indicate that Liu was the good guy. Which kind of backfires since Johnny, Raiden, and Sonya are also good guys, although Raiden's MK1 ending suggests otherwise.

All I know is that MK lore is weird, even for fighting game standards...

Does anybody want a side character or villain from any game that we don't have the main character yet? I realized that quite a few of my most wanted characters aren't actually the main protagonist of their game.

Let's just say, for example, that they really want to have an Astral Chain character but they aren't able to make the Legion mechanic work for reasons similar to why Rex was left out. How would people feel about Jena Anderson getting in Smash instead of Akira? Jena is one of the coolest looking game characters ever and I would be really hyped if she got in.
Back to the original prompt, there's a couple Ys character who'd be cool aside from Adol. The first is Geis a recurring character who debuted in Ys VI.

Swings around a big halberd. Uses sealing talismans, can place traps, and commands three alchemically-created fairies (Long story), the latter of which could be used to replicate the three elemental weapons of Ys VI to some degree.

The other guy is Hummel, from Ys VIII

He has a gun in a somewhat fantastical fantasy world, which is already really %$#@ing funny on it's own. He's a "transporter;" A guy who's paid to deliver stuff to you. He works in the darker corners of society, and while he does aim to do good, he's basically a smuggler. He also has a strict code of honor that he follows, and he will deliver whatever the %$#@ he's tasked with provided he gets payment. And again, he has a musket rifle in a medieval JRPG, which would be both unique and hilarious in the context of Smash.

I’ve only played a little bit of Ys (a few hours of Ys 6) but the games seemed fun. These two characters look pretty cool and seem like they would be pretty fun for Smash. I especially like that Geis is a halberd user so that would be a refreshing change from so many sword wielders.

Mortal Kombat talk? Something happen related regarding it?
No. It was brought up as an example of a character that isn't the poster boy getting into a crossover title (albeit a fan made one) with Sub Zero instead of Scorpion. The conversation went from there.

That was actually in the pipeline for PSASBR up until it came crashing down. Apparently Chun-Li was meant to be his rival, too.

Dude I would actually love Geis. I mean I think it should be Adol, no question there, but Geis is unironically a character I liked since the first time I saw him while playing the Ys games. I guess he has that "edgy and cool" design, but I actually think he has a really good design and besides of that, he has a cool backstory and has a badass weapon of choice.

And he doesn't use a sword so people should be happy, I guess.

Hummel is also nice, though if we talk about Ys VIII I think Sahad is also an interesting choice. Not to mention Dana, of course.

Ernst I think would be cool as well. I think he has a badass design.

And a badass theme. This particular arrangement of his track with the final boss theme from Ys I is amazing:

The cool thing about Ernst is that he could actually represent just about all of the major plot threads of the series. He's (Well, was) a big shot in the Romun Empire, he's descended from the Clan of Darkness, he seeks out Eldeen artifacts, and he had alchemically-created fairies. He actually covers a lot of bases in terms of the overall story.

Also, his song basically just Moon Over The Castle from Gran Turismo. Thought that was something worth pointing out.

If you think about it, the whole game was pretty weird...
A little, but there were pairings that made perfect sense, like Nathan Drake and Sly Cooper and Rachet & Clank and Jak & Daxter.

Then you have freaking Big Daddy and Sackboy...

EDIT: Oh yeah, and Fat Princess's rival is Evil Cole. Not that any pairing with Fat Princess would have made sense. Fat Princess in general doesn't make sense.

I don’t think they ever made it even in the pipeline. They were just names thrown on a whiteboard but that’s not saying a lot because the whiteboard in question had like 30 different characters on it.

Ooh, here's a fun discussion topic:

There was a problem fetching the tweet

For me, I think I'd go with Monokuma. I don't think he's very likely this late in the game, but there's a part of me that just can't help but think maybe he still has a chance...
The majority of my most wanted either already got in, already got deconfirmed, or are in a great spot for the next two spots, but my number 1 most wanted, even more than I wanted Ridley and Joker, is Ray01 from Custom Robo. Really any custom robo rep would do. I really doubt it will ever happen unfortunately.

Want another darkhorse pick?

Stahn Aileron. Tales of Destiny is the best selling Tales game in Japan. :4pacman:

But anyways, I really it's the remake that was on the PS2 being ported, it has one of the best battle systems and terrific animation.

About that recent Namco "leak". I don't believe the "leaker" (@leakypandy on twitter) is legit. They've gotten way too much wrong before. However, I don't think ports of DS2 and 3 are impossibilities (Sorry if I overpost about Dark Souls lol). What do you think?

Of all companies already in the game, i feel that Bamco and Microsoft seems to be the most likely ones to get characters, specially Bamco.
I think I agree. Then I would put Sega not too far behind. More specifically Atlus, as the trend of Fighters Pass 2 has been to repeat companies that were in Fighters Pass 1.

It might be because I just finished Nocturne and have some intense recency bias, but I’ve been feeling pretty good about the chances of an SMT rep. Having Persona without Megaten is one of the weirdest things about Smash’s roster. It’s so weird that I wouldn’t be surprised if Atlus actually made a deal to add both Joker and an SMT rep and just decided to hold out on the SMT rep, so that they could coincide with SMTV or Nocturne. I don’t know if I’m banking on it, but it would not surprise me.

I don't think there is anything weird about it. Persona and other Megami Tensei games hardly ever crossover aside from stuff like costume cameos. I'm almost sure there are no notable crossover games that feature both. P Studio also usually operates on its own, which is probably the reason we only got content from games that the current team worked on.

Don't get me wrong, SMT has a good relationship with Nintendo and is an underrated pick but I wouldn't blink an eye if Smash doesn't get any more ATLUS content until the next game.

Not really, I mean, while MegaTen is an amazing series, Persona is the more popular one worldwide, especially after Persona 5, so it makes sense that it'd be the Atlus series Nintendo would pick for Smash...they honestly probably thought more about the game itself, Persona 5, rather than the company itself and their series..and I doubt Atlus would try to force another Fighter in rather than just be excited to have Joker appear in a game like Smash and focusing solely on that deal.

Not from a marketing standpoint. Each modern Persona game spawns so many spin-offs and so much merchandise that they're practically separate franchises. The fact that P3, 4 and 5 each got content in Joker's pack in suggests Nintendo thought having them would overall bolster the appeal of the Pass. I can't imagine any other reason they'd want Teddie's severed head as a Mii costume.

I dunno, SMT feels like it would fit better with base game additions. A one-off cheque and free rein for Sakurai/the music team to do what they want with the IP like Castlevania, rather than ongoing royalties from DLC. Maybe this is just me being cynical but the DLC overall seems to be relying on brand power to push sales and any legacy is an unintended but not unwanted side-effect of doing so. This is the same game that added a second Final Fantasy 7 before a character from any other FF game.

I'm totally down for an SMT fighter pack but I don't think the suits are.

I don't think it'll happen. As different as SMT is from the Persona series, I think Nintendo got their fill with Persona.

Personally, I'm inclined to believe they'd prefer something completely separate and unrelated. That's how it's been with every challenger pack so far. Even with characters from the same genre, their franchises have very little in common.
