I mean, they’ve already had a random spirit event for what’s essentially a ‘non-Final Fantasy’ ‘Final Fantasy’ game...

See? It’s Final Fantasy, but not!
Just depends on if it’s in Square Enix’s interests.

But it's not content from the franchise as a whole, so

Yeah, but they could still label it as "Final Fantasy".

"Final Fantasy VII" isn't a franchise; it's a game from a large franchise. It's a really popular game, I'll give you that, but it's disappointing that there's very little in Smash that indicates FF is more than just FFVII. Makes it stick out among every other franchise, and not in a good way.

Technically, Chocobo, Moogle, Shiva, and Ifrit are from multiple FF games and not just FFVII.

Granted, I'm guessing the designs used for the spirits are from FFVII remake, still, doesn't stop them from being more general FF characters.

Additionally, Ifrit uses his FFVIII incarnation for his Midgar appearance and the Chocobo hat uses the Chocobo Dungeon design. Granted they're the only exceptions, but they do give a slightly more broad representation of the franchise as a result.

The one I absolutely recognise is the last one, so Resident Evil. Most specifically, Resident Evil 4, so Leon Kennedy. For the first one, that may be Kirby. The 2nd one I don't recognise.

We barely had any new stages this time around, at least till the Fighter's Pass. So I wouldn't entirely mind at this point. Incineroar alone could use a new stage, for just one example. >.>

7 does have it's own universe with 7, Dirge of Cerberus, Advent Children, Crisis Core and Remake which is known as the FF7 Compilation. It may not be aesthetically pleasing but it does make sense.

I would love more stages too but if you think about it a full FP3 would have six stages and probably between 60-90 songs anyway, plus six characters...
(assuming it's the same size as FP2)

I'm not sure if I'd trade six characters for four stages and one or two dozen tracks, personally.
