Did The Older Pokemon Games Have A Better Aesthetic "Feel" To Them?

All in all, the games aren't that different gameplay-wise, but I honestly think Silver Version was better than Pearl. I look at some youtube videos and think "Man, Pokemon was MEANT to be in 8-Bit!". Who else here thinks that Pokemon has lost it's charm?

Emerald, so far was the last to have a pokemon "feel" to it, D/P/and maybe platinum, are very simple, they were easy to complete and the character designs weren't very creative, they were more childish.
yay emerald and sapphire

I totally agree with you. I think some of it has to do with the Pokemon being less creative though.
THIS. Before it seems the pokemanz we created out of joy and were well though out. Now it seems that most of the time they make up "filler" pokemon to add. "Filler" Pokemon are pre-evolutions and new evolutions.

Btw, I LOOOOOOOOOVED POKEMON SILVER. BEST. POKEMON. GAME. EVER.

The best was either Yellow or Silver. Yellow was good, and I loved the game, but I have to say, Silver wins by a small margin. But then again.... it's hard to decide :(

In my opinion, Pokemon hasnt lost it's charm and its actually getting better. It's probably becuase I love the Sinnoh region and 4/5 of its pokemons.

The older games are way better imo.

I can't even stand to complete Diamond version right now cause I find it so incredibly boring. The region looks great though, way better than the ones before.. but the selection of Pokemon isn't so good..

I played Crystal version the most, Emerald being the second most and Yellow the third.

I don't know why but the Battle Tower in Emerald kept me playing it for some reason.

I really enjoyed generation 2 mostly because of Pokemon Stadium. *Stares at his Nintendo 64 with nostalgic thoughts*. The new Console Pokemon games don't put as much of an emphasis on enjoying the game without a knowledge of advanced(NOTE: i didn't say competitive) battling. Although, I've never played the colliseum(did I even spell that right) series, I'm sure it's just another RPG with a set party. Battle Revolution was just too unappealing. You couldn't make the battles easier without losing, and the first rounds were a little more challenging than they were in the stadium series.

The Stadium series was great. You can't tell me that you never gave your opponent a team of Caterpie, Magikarp, etc., while you had all the starters just for kicks. There was a neat interactive school that would teach you the basics of advanced battling. Gym leader castle was just awesome, no need for a description. The minigames were just the $***, especially when you used the transfer pack to bring your Pokemon over. Yeah, those were the days...

Still, Gen IV triumphs in the main series and competitive battling, wi-fi FTW.

i love nostalgia it makes everything seem double as good as what it was and when your talking about gen 1 pokemon or pokemon stadium they were already awesome so its like SUPER AWESOME!!!

on topic though i feel the older games had more of an authentic feel to them, the pokemon where not as out there as they are know (luvdisc 0_o) and were based on animals which made it seem all more realistic. I still remember playing my yellow version and it was just so amazing (pikachu would follow you how cool is that)

Did I mention that the music for Silver & Gold was great 8-bit music and absolutely perfect for the game?

I just have to agree on that one.

But P-reaper's right. There's a time and place for nostalgia, like right now, but I bet anything that you won't be reminiscing about the good ol' days when Platinum finally does come out and everbody's training and forgetting WTF just happened!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to play Pokemon Gold and Emerald until Platinum comes knockin'! GOLD IS BETTER!!!!!

I really enjoyed the gold-silver-crystal series. They were so good because they could be completed without a guide. I remember in ruby, unlocking rega-rock, rega-ice, and rega-steel (not even sure if I'm spelling them right), you had to understand braille. I don't think blind people play pokemon. I remember trying to figure it out without using my guide and it was impossible unless I had a prior knowledge or braille.

*Note this is from my memory of playing them =)*

I think a Pokemon would never get old if they made it a cross between animal crossing. Think about differnt season where there are exclusive pokemon. Holidays!!! It would make sense if they could find a way to adapt it to 2-D. Right now nintendos storage capacity is too limiting for them to make the game in 3D

The old games were way better a long time ago. I remember playing pokemon yellow for hours on end. And now, my eyes hurt when playing it. I'm just not used to the (lousy) graphics anymore. The new games would be better if it weren't for the bad poke designs. D/P/P wins at everything BUT taste. It was really flat and too easy. They're just trying to make money now, and not good games, just "good enough." Imo, the old games were original, and I like originality.

The creators should make Gen 5 blow everyone away.

They're baiting us, I know it!

I think that the games just got to kiddish, and that's when they lost their taste. The games got to easy, there were to many legendarys to count, '' catching them all'' just got to hard and boring. Thanks to the anime, which is ruining the goodness of the games. And is attacting too many young gamers with no skill, who use ubers all the time, which then ruined the best thing about the 4th gen, Wi-Fi. Battling also became to complecated and cheap to deal with, and the fun of trading lost it's fun and rarety with Wi-Fi. :(

The only things that are good that came out of all of this was more Pokemon, even cooler legendarys, better story lines and plot, and a few new features like running, double battles, natures (to give more personally to them), events, more Smash charaters, and a bigger look into the world of Pokemon. :)

Well I've never played Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond and Pearl, but I would like to try them out someday.

As for the older games, I've played them all, except Crystal which I never got, but out of Red/Blue/Yellow version I'd say Yellow version was the best as it had extras that Red and Blue didn't have such as Jesse & James, Pikachu following you around.

Out of Gold& Silver I'd have to say Silver takes the platinum, simply because it was the first of the newer games that I had played and at the time it was so addicting, and still is, though I do have to say Gold have better animations for some of the Pokemon.

I wonder if FireRed and Leaf Green are similar to Red/Blue, anyone have any idea? Don't want to be spoiled though.

about the first gens being creative. they weren't creative. they did what they do now base them off animals or random inanimate objects but at that time a game like pokemon wasn't done before and if it was it wasn't done in the same way. most of the newer pokemon look better but are not creative because the concept of animal like fictional creatures with powers has been done before unlike the 1st gen.

pokemon never lost their aesthetic feel as all gens are the same not counting their game mechanics.

i like how nastalga makes people think something is better then another thing which in reality is just as good or better then the older thing.

Actually, because the old systems of battle and such were simpler, they could be considered superior. Complexity does not necessarily add value to a system.

I've been going through Blue. I also have access to games from the 3rd and 4th generations. I don't even want to play the newer games because Blue is so entertaining.

*Beedrill used Twineedle! *

* The wild Venomoth used Leech Life! *

The older Pokemon tended to be simpler, while the new gens tend to have pointless Stripes n' Spikes n' Whatnot.

Original Form Rotom for the win.

Maybe we are used to the old pokemon. Also, they made 101 pokemon, and keep adding 100 more everytime, do you think that may have something to do with creativity?

Anyways, I believe Yellow, Gold, and Silver were awesome. I like Red and Blue, but my Pidgeotto was ugly! Now in Y, G/S; I really liked how they looked great. Sadly, I always keep erasing the game, because after getting the 16 badges, and beating the pokemon league, there isn't much else to do, at all. The replay is great, but its always hard to beat the pokemon league, its as if I under trained them, and have to fill in the gap right then and there.

I haven't played the new pokemon games, though, since I don't have a DS. I wish I could, though. I would also want to learn as much as I can about it to battle good players and become good myself. :3

True, but that doesn't mean that 4th gen has the weaker battling system. EV training, the complexity of the game aren't mandatory. You can choose if you want do do all those stuff.
If you wanted you can put Fire blast, Flamethrower, Blast burn and fly on your lvl 70 charizard and he'd still be usable against the E4. Maybe not as useful in tourney's or online play but you don't see many R/B/Y tourney's either way =/

101 0_o i hope you meant 151 and they didnt add 100 every time otherwise we wouldn't be at 493
I meant 151, yes. ^^; and I guess that was a slight exageration (never know how to spell that xD). Also, I haven't really played the newer ones, so I would'nt know anyways. xD
