1.
The Default Suit (Mark XLVI.)
I decided it'd be a good call to have Iron Man's default suit be his look from
Civil War as opposed to from
Infinity War, which I'm aware is likely a very... odd choice. However, the reason I've suggested this is simple - I wanted to have a mix of "bulkiness" and "slimness" to give the most lee-way when actually adding costumes. The MK LXXXV, for instance - whilst being more modern and arguably "relevant" - is a lot slimmer, and this would really shut the door for some unique Iron Man looks purely based on the hitboxes. So... yeah, it's kind of a compromise. The more muted colours compared to my second pick, though, do make it an effective counter despite having the "red and gold" colour scheme.
2.
The Comic Suit (Model 3.)
Based more directly on Iron Man's early comic appearances, and featured prominently in his first self-titled comic,
Iron Man #1, I think this would be different enough from the default, movie-based look to be functional in a fighting game. Being much more colourful and, if we could, going for a cel-shaded style to really capture the classic look (similar to the Classic Spider-Man costume seen in the PS4 game!), I think this would be a very fun inclusion. In keeping with wanting each "colour scheme" to be unique, I'm electing not to add Iron Man 2020 in the base game - as much as I would love to.
2.
The Mark I Suit.
Whilst I considered going for a gold look to represent his appearance in
Avengers #1, I felt that his silver look was more important to represent overall. Whilst I love the look it has in the film and would adore keeping more mechanical components like that, I suggest that it's more comic-based so that it can be slightly less bulky and more in line with the "normal" look.
4.
The Silver Centurion Suit (Model 8.)
Originating from
Iron Man #200, the Silver Centurion look is quite a unique one for Iron Man - it was featured in
Iron Man 2, was a major story element in the
Armor Wars storyline, and has been featured quite a lot since then. Overall, I think that it'd be a good representation of the mid-80s in Iron Man's armoury - and has a really cool and unique look of its own. I did briefly consider replacing this with the Iron Lad suit, despite it not really being Tony himself, but I felt this would be a better choice.
5.
Mark 42.
A more modern, but still very clean, look. Black and gold just works really well together, and I think it helps that this looks more like a movie-based one (with a lot of my suggestions until now being comic-based as opposed to movie-based.) Not much to say, I just quite like it.
6.
Endo-Sym Armour.
This generally just looks very, very clean. I really like the look of it, and the idea of having at least one costume that lets us see the man behind the Iron Mask is really appealing to me. Seeing this sort of suit would be really cool - an idea I had was that when being attacked with this suit, small droplets of steel come from the back similar to the "sweat" from
Mortal Kombat for the SNES - representing the liquidy-nature of the suit itself whilst not having any actual effect on gameplay. It'd be a very fun inclusion.
7.
Iron Patriot.
Probably a slightly controversial choice, but given we don't yet have Rhodey (and I'm not 100% sure we will), I wanted to essentially cover all bases where possible. So, yeah - this would usually be a War Machine costume, but in this case, the livery goes to Iron Man. No particular additions of note at all - it's kind of just "another colour scheme" after all - but I think this would be fun.
8.
Tony Stark/Makeshift Armour.
I mentioned back with the Endo-Sym armour that it'd be very cool to see "the man behind the mask", and I think this costume would be a wonderful way to show off the nature of Tony Stark not just as a hero or a philanthropist, but as a skilled engineer and technician. Based on his look in both the
Iron Man movie and
Marvel's Avengers's Makeshift Armour, it'd be similar enough to not be too problematic. I guess this somewhat depends on what we're using in terms of Iron Man's moveset - so if his shoulder-mounted missiles are in use, for instance, it'd be a good idea to give him shoulderpads that would work like that. Just, I think this sort of "suit" would be very, very fitting.
