Quick question: will the Arms fighter clap after losses? Characters that use gloves as their default ARMS probably can, as Little Mac claps with his gloves, but characters with big ARMS like the Megaton or the Lokjaw, or weirdly shaped ARMS like the Dragon or the Chakram probably can't.
I can imagine a special animation like Mewtwo looking to the side spitefully or the Ice Climbers crying

Promotional art from ARMS (more specifically, this piece) shows that the characters take their giant gloves off when outside of ARMS matches:

It's certainly possible that they'll do that, but for whatever reason, they've never showed the hands of the characters in-game. It could just be a coincidence, but it seems like they might not want to have to include hands on the character models, and if that's the case, I don't know if Smash would be any different.

Maybe we'll finally see their real hands in 3D for the first time (previously only seen in promo art.)

My dream is that we'd see them demasked and clapping with their regular arms, but I doubt they'll do that.

Edit: Shoulda refreshed the page, didn't mean to step on your post Guybrush

According to the lore, if they take their masks off their ARMS unravel, so that’s a no. Just taking off the gloves will do

or if it’s Twintelle who has human arms (her ARMS are her hair) she claps like normal

Ah, I must have misremembered it. That's some real body horror right there.

At least it's a more understandable reason than Kinnikuman keeping his goofy mask on, lest he commit seppuku to make up for dishonorable display. That said...

…We've seriously reached the point where character likelihood is determined by whomever is able to clap.

June can't blow by fast enough.

They'll probably think up something, I can't see any of the ARMS fighters not doing that. It's mostly reserved for less gracious characters and sore losers, and given how the ARMS cast are professional fighters it's probably not the angle they'll go with.

Yeah, guys like Spring Man know how to be a good sport...

...most of the time.

Then there is Coyle who is the exact opposite of a good sport, although she may be less vitriolic in an environment outside of pure ARMS.

Even if you applaud, you can still come off as a sore loser. Ganondorf in Ultimate looks absolutely ashamed and disgusted, Ryu is pretty much beating himself up mentally, Wario hurls some kind of jeering in between claps and Ridley expresses his thoughts on how inconsequential non-lethal fights are with really slow claps.

I have been thinking about the ARMS character lately. While I would prefer Twintelle, Dr. Coyle, or the "Bowser Jr./Hero" situation (simply for the possibility of multiple ARMS amiibo) I think Im rooting more for Spring-Man/Ribbon Girl combo. Same character slot 4 alts each. I just feel Smash should just stick to tradition and make the "main" characters the first choices. To me it would feel odd if say idk Mechanica was chosen before those 2. It would be like adding Bowser before Mario, Diddy before DK, Falco before Fox, etc.

As much as I love Twintelle, Master Mummy, and Dr. Coyle. It would feel weird adding one of them to my amiibo shelf before Spring-Man and Ribbon Girl. That being said obviously I love 80% of the ARMS cast and would be happy with those 80% and indifferent towards Byte & Bark, Mechanica, and Misango. Everyone else I really enjoy though and wouldn't mind.

I'm not really concerned about any of that, but whether we'll get any further amiibo at all. There's been no word of more ever since the base roster dried up.

Hmm, I sort of lulled myself into thinking it was a given, but true, there's no word on it yet. Then again, COVID-19 happened and conveniently right around the time when the next batch of amiibo would probably have been announced (since the last ones we got were Richter and Dark Samus in January). I do expect the DLC characters to get amiibo, but like with everything else at the moment, production of them will likely be halted.

Probably, probably not. The fact that they even exist at all wasn't even remotely hinted at ever since Byleth was released, for all we know they had enough time for at least one initial batch, but won't say a peep about it until the ARMS character is shown, with how secretive Nintendo is. That is, if they even had plans for amiibo beyond FP1 to start with.

It's weird how everything revolving around the ARMS character is a Schrodinger's Cat.

This is what happens when you confirm only one thing about a character. Unless that one thing is a silhouette, in which case you've given it away if it's an existing character and launched a new subcategory of interpretive fanart otherwise.

Wasn't trying to say that clapping was actually going to affect the likelihood of characters, it's just something to discuss while we wait for the reveal. I certainly agree that June can't come fast enough!

Yes.
Results screen uses different models, not the same as the fighters, right? For example, some details with Palutena. I've read it somewhere but never checked.
In that case the fighter with regular arms seems easy. Or just a weird animation.

I mean more that we've hit the bottom of the barrel of interesting topics to talk about regarding the fighter. Every other topic has been completely exhausted, so it's just stalling at this point.

Late but ARMS having a character made me super hype.

I love that game.

Personally think Spring Man / Ribbon Girl are the most likely (as in both of them).

That said, where's the Master Mummy love?

You're right, the character select sceen renders of the characters are different models from the playable models used in the game itself. In fact, I would probably go as far to say the character select screen models are the full uncompressed models of the characters. Most of the time when you see renders of characters in artwork for the game they're actually uncompressed models of the characters which what they would look like outside of the limitations of the hardware of the console. Basically, they shrink down the size of these models and edit them a bit to fit on the game because the console can't handle the full uncompressed version of the character models.

The DKC SNES trilogy is a easy example for this since they made those games on Silicon Graphics hardware before decompressing them to fit on the SNES. The artwork you see for DKC is the full uncompressed models and what they would look like on the original hardware it was made on outside of the limitations of the SNES.

Given that, I can fully believe that they don't even need a Direct to show off the ARMS fighter next month.
They didn't need one for Byleth, so yeah, it's definitely doable without a Direct. And that said, I'm personally expecting something similar to Byleth's presentation for the ARMS character in June. But we'll see.

So hype for Paper Mario!!

Yes.
I spect to be that way, a presentation by Sakurai as usual, or whatever presentation due to the virus. I just hope they announce it and not just drop it at random, like this trailer or the last direct.

Not to say it's happening, but what are the chances we will get multiple Arms characters as alts and the Arms rep uses different moves from all the Arms characters like how Byleth uses all the different weapons from the Three Houses heroes?

At most suspect the Hero route with Spring Man - Ribbon Girl - Ninjara - Minmin

Not really sure I can talk about ripped models here, but you can find some of the models ripped directly from ARMS, and it's pretty clear that Springman/ Ninjara and Ribbongirl / Min Min don't share a rig. You can see it with your own eyes honestly if you just use the character select screen in game, but it's pretty hard to tell since Springman's clothes are so baggy.

The male character's proportions give them considerably shorter legs and longer upper bodies. Not sure that a single fighter, or even an echo would be possible with that combination of fighters considering Isabelle supposedly couldn't be an echo due to the differences in proportions between her and Villager.

Of course they could change the designs around to make it work, but it WILL look strange, especially considering Springman's assist has proportions accurate to ARMS (Baby legs).

I wouldn't mind shadow drop too much, it'd reduce the amount of dumb theories that happen compared to the two-day wait between announcement and release of Byleth's showcase. I basically just want this over with.
Nah I like the anticipation and surprise. Shadow drops usually ruin the experience because I'm always late to the party. I log on Twitter and someone is casually tweeting about it. I want to know ahead of time to avoid social media and watch the trailer without being spoiled. What they did with Byleth is ideal. I wish they'd done that with Paper Mario.

I know right? I just witness the sight of Lucas in Smash Remix in my Youtube recommendations before I even knew he was even coming or seeing his trailer. I subscribed to the Smash Remix Youtube channel to avoid from this happening to me again.
