I have a habit of it too.
I wouldn't say to never do it, because it's a strong tool, but I find myself committing to it too much as well when it won't work.
There's definitely a time and place, considering Fsmash is disjointed and hits hard, it can be the most optimal punish, especially against the 1 frame invulnerability on ledgesnap, or if you can pop them during the 2 frame window of get-up from ledge. Also works great on moves coming in horizontally that try to snap to the ledge because of the disjoint/if they mess up their aim.
