I personally feel sonic vs sheik is even. Only because we can challenge her frame 5 fair with either our own fair or uair. and she is put in a worse position if she eats a uair with her only landing options being really easy to shield and punish. That and we get all of our spin charge > dair spike setups on her which makes taking back stocks easy when she tends to struggle to kill.

Hey guys I didn't receive any attention for my last video so I'm not quite sure what I need to work on. That's okay though, I have a new video maybe someone could give a critique on it?

Ok, first of all, I really feel you should just watch some good Sonic players videos. It is the best way for you to get new ideas to add to your playstyle.

More particularly, I think you should learn to reverse your UpB, in order to directly grab the ledge. If you didn't know, you can't ledge snap when you're backward the ledge, this offers a free punish opportunity to your opponent.

Then, I guess you could do more spindash pressure if you used your UpB to pressure your opponent's shield and get out of the danger.

Plus, don't roll so much. It becomes a habit that opponents can easily punish. Beware cause it can be hard to break this bad habit so you should start trying to do less rolls. In addition to this, don't jump to your opponent so much, you offered him many opportunities to shield grab you.

To finish, I'd say you'd better Uthrow than Dthrow, there are more setups to deal damage, especially on heavy characters. Depending on the weight and the enemy % you can Uthrow Jump Uair, Uthrow UpB Fair or Uair, sometimes you'll have to wait for the air dodge, you can also Uthrow UpB Dair... It's really up to you and I think it is a better way to rack up some damage than the Dthrow, especially if you don't tech chase.

I hope I've been helpful, I know I am not the best Sonic out there but hopefully my contribution will bring you something =)

Thanks a lot Myst_R, I just started with sonic recently so getting to know the tech and throwing out bad habits that I got from using other characters. Those pointers will definitely be worked into my game.

especially if you don't tech chase.
What's the tech chase?

It's always nice to be able to help new people, some players out there adviced me when I was new and it really helped me building trust in this Sonic community and confidence in my own improvement potential =)

For the tech chase, It's not that I don't want to help you, but you need to get a habit =) when you don't know a term, try to google it before you ask for its meaning, it will make you more independent on the construction of your knowledge ; )

So, just try to google "tech chase super smash" =D

Newest tutorial video! Covers that Spring > Dair > Platform Cancel thing we've discussed, but covers it in greater detail and across the cast.

I had already used google to search for an answer before posting but did not want to jump to any conclusion.

I don't think it's best to assume the reader does not look for answers on their own. It's more helpful to provide an answer.

Ssb players mix up terms due to bad naming conventions all the time..

Do you mean 'to chase ukemi' by any chance?
I use Dthrow towards ledge. There is no ground for ukemi to happen.

I apologize if I upset you by my last message, but, I hope you'd agree to say that some questions let people think you didn't do any search, or at least didn't do it correctly. Once again, no offense to you.

What I meant by tech chase is this http://www.ssbwiki.com/Tech-chasing. My advice was to use your Uthrow instead of the Dthrow because in the video you never tech chase your opponent. So, in order to deal more damage, learn the followups to the Uthrow.

Also I hate playing on stream.

That's horse****.

Same thing happened to me at a tournament where a stage wasn't unlocked on my set-up and we had to take the time to unlock it which is extremely unprofessional, kills momentum, etc, but like... That's my counterpick. There's no reason that I shouldn't be able to go there because of things out of my control. Fortunately it was easy to unlock, but still.

If I were you I wouldn't of stood for that but... :/

Also, some of my matches from a recent tournament were uploaded but not all of them, so I'll wait to post those all at once. Really stoked about them too.

No harm done friend, after all you were only trying to help! I understand you mean to punish ukemi, and that will take some time working into muscle memory.

I believe misunderstanding has happened, because to me, I'm using Dthrow to force my opponent to recover low, and may have not yet be familiar with the distance my opponent will go. I will definitely work on my Uthrow followups. Ty.

People banned it against me after it got unlocked anyway lol.

Of course. More people need to know about dat'

Just been busy. Had a tourney on Saturday and was at a Final Fantasy Piano Opera the day after.

No worries, just saw Orochi didn't post it here so I only said it as a reminder :x

How was the opera? That sounds dope. I saw the Zelda one a month ago and enjoyed it.

It was sooooo good!! They played various music from FF1 to 9. Few cosplayers were in the venue as well.

Got to meet and have pics with Nobuo Uematsu and Hiroyuki Nakayama. They're so chill and down to earth, wasn't expecting that for some reason. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hey everyone! I have a couple matches from a local tournament that was streamed the other day. Unfortunately I didn't do so well this month only getting to 17th tie, but hopefully I'll be able to improve and do better next time.
I'm the one in the grey sweatshirt being blocked by my opponent's head lol.

My first match starts at 1:24:20 and my second match is at 1:28:00 in the stream.

EDIT: Sorry about the echo issue, they are still trying to get the setup working correctly.

I wonder..? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

But, in all seriousness, it's pretty much borderline as it is and if Sonic's KO power gets nerfed yet again..
That last round had a lot on the line though and I don't think it was Sonic as much as it was both of us being nervous and afraid to commit to anything.

I'm not the greatest with Sonic but I think I can help you out. These are some things I noticed in your game:

1) Overuse of homing attack. You weren't getting punished for it much early on but this move is pretty unsafe. It is particularly bad if you're above and to the left/right of them; it seems to go over their head almost every time from that angle in my experience. Personally I would reserve it for when it's guaranteed (like off a footstool) or when someone is trying to catch your landing with a charged smash attack or something and you can mix them up with it.

2) Lack of low % up throw combos. I noticed on the second stock I think you got a grab on Peach twice in a row and you went for dthrow both times. Maybe rage would have messed it up in this case, I'm not sure, but in general you can get some guaranteed follow ups off up throw at low % (up air or nair, or even bair on some characters). This is worth looking into if you aren't already aware of it.

3) Unsafe use of spring -> dair. There were like 3 or 4 times I noticed you used spring and then daired on stage, landing pretty much right on top of Peach. This is really unsafe, if your opponent was paying more attention they could have pretty easily punished it with an up smash. I would use this less, or when you need to use it at least b-reverse it so you land further away from them.

4) Overusing spinshot for recovery. It seems like you went for this option a lot, and it's not always the best since your path is pretty telegraphed if they know you're going for it. Also spinshot has no hitbox. Instead, you should consider sometimes just going for a regular SC (since it goes at a shallower angle than SD in the air) and then jump/spring to the ledge. Also if you get launched high you can dair and then spring to the ledge.

I hope this helps.
