Lets talk shows. Somebody recommend something good
Watching Dexter and Scrubs Season 2 right now.
I couldn't give Dexter much of a chance after the first 2 episodes. I just couldn't believe a guy that looks like that could wind up being a serial killer. I mean there is Ted Bundy IRL, but even then, he wasn't a civil servant/detective, nor was his dad teaching him how to kill people.
Didn't buy it.
I'll give you Scrubs though, that show is **** good.
Otherwise, I'd recommend The Shield (you'd have a lot of seasons to go through, but it'd be **** worth it) and The Venture Bros, though you probably already watch the latter. I think posting in the PacWest room is synonymous with enjoying Adult Swim.
Anyways, I made a list of my top 25 movies, and it gets updated pretty often as I watch new films.
Obviously there are some you all may not agree with (See # 11/13) but I ranked them on some sort of weird weighted system. Some movies, like #11, I ranked based upon the first viewing. Because let's face it, some movies get worse the more you watch them. But they are designed to be enjoyed that way, so I take it as it is meant to be. Just as you can't hate a comedy for being idiotic, just as you can't hate a zombie movie for being cheesy. I guess I'm fine with movies so long as all their intentions are realized to a high degree of quality.
For example, just because Transformers is meant to be entertaining, and explosions/robots are nice, the entertainment is intentionally driven by a story that is pure trash. So while fun, it suffers because this pure entertainment is not executed with quality.
I highly recommend any of the films on my list. The brief synopses on the sides of certain movies will help explain why/how I enjoy them. However, some films need no explanation.
Films in italics are easy as hell to get into, just in case you want something casual yet amazing.
1.
Goodfellas
2.
Taxi Driver (One of the best lead performances)
3.
2001 A Space Odyssey (Takes a few repeated viewings and an extremely open mind)
4.
Apocalypse Now (A war movie that isn't really a war movie. A movie that makes you anticipate the ending the whole time, in a good way)
5.
No Country for Old Men (A future classic IMHO)
6.
The Orphanage (Easy foreign film to get into, Horror)
7.
Rosemary's Baby (Horror classic, the kind that is completely believable, no gratuitous violence needed)
8.
Mean Streets
9.
Shawshank Redemption
10.
Let the Right One In (**** twilight, this foreign Vampire horror film works on so many levels)
11.
The Dark Knight
12.
Fargo
13.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
14.
The Wrestler (If you need an underdog story, this is the finest. Rocky on crack, pretty much)
15.
The Godfather (Took me a while to accept this was as good as others said. It will probably go up on my list soon)
16.
Solaris (Another Sci Fi Classic, the kind you think about. NOT the George Clooney version. It's in Russian, and the Russians are a really brawny people, so don't expect to feel any type of compassion towards any of the males in this movie)
17.
The Killing (Classic caper film. If you want a simple heist film where things may go right or wrong, this is the one)
18.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (Sci-fi yet again. And the best kind, yet again. One where aliens aren't trying to f*** s*** up all the time)
19.
American Beauty
20.
A Clockwork Orange (Trippy, violent, and ****, literally)
21.
The Aviator
22.
Casino
23.
There Will Be Blood (Daniel Day Lewis is the best actor in the business at the moment, and he **** well shows it in this film.)
24.
Paths of Glory (Once again, a war film that isn't really a war film. Classic)
25.
Blood Simple
