movies I like:

Forrest Gump
Mildred Pierce
City of God
The Usual Suspects
(500) Days of Summer
Amelie
Spirited Away
Lost in Translation
Ferris Bueller's Day Off

I mostly made this thread so I can get more suggestions for foreign films and anything else I haven't seen (of which there are a lot). Feel free to criticize my list and add your own.

you better step ya game up if you consider yourself a critic

stuff like little miss sunshine and ferris buehler's day off and etc. are good, decent movies but nothing you'd ever want to rank on a list of great movies

office space and clerks are also the gold standard comedies must be held to

Foreign films, eh? You should watch Allegro non troppo. It's an Italian parody of Fantasia with a more cynical view of the Western world. Tale of Tales is also good, although it's incredibly hard to follow if you don't already know anything about the movie.

A few other foreign movies that I've heard great things about, but never got around to seeing, are , Tokyo Story, and Battleship Potemkin.

Forrest Gump

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Les Miserables but I can't remember which version

watch El Mariachi
its an independent film with the director of the other el Mariachi movies. Its a prequel to the Hollywood made Antonio Banderas versions

I agree. Iron Man was garbage.

Not much of a movie guy but one of my most liked movies has been The Matrix (just the first one though).

Tarantino films also ****.

I love movies.

Here are some of my favorite movies:
Die Hard
The Big Lebowski
Ghostbusters
Blues Brothers
Clerks

Here are some movies that I like that are also generally considered "Classics" and "Very Important to Cinema" and **** like that:
Citizen Kane
Godfather [and Godfather Pt 2]
Boogie Nights (I like Paul Thomas Anderson a whole lot)

I'd like to also take this moment to sing the praises of Christopher and Jonathon Nolan who have managed to put together an astoundingly good group of movies [Memento, Batman Begins, The Prestige and The Dark Knight]. 3/4 of those are among the best movies I've ever seen and Batman Begins is right behind them.

EDIT:
On Iron Man:
I think it was one of the best Blockbuster movies to come out in the past couple years. You had good performances by the leads [Robert Downey Jr, Jeff Bridges, Terrance Howard and Gwyneth Paltrow] and a fun, action packed script. It wasn't something I felt like I needed to see over and over again, but I had a lot of fun seeing it in the theater.

I like movies too

Children of Men
Shaun of the Dead
Office Space
Evil Dead II and III
Raiders of the Lost Arc
Bill Murray
Coen Brothers
Pixar
Miyazaki
anything scored by John Williams

what I like in a nutshell. Children of Men is probably my favorite movie ever.

I thought Iron Man was overrated. It felt so generic. Dark Knight was good but was a little drawn out. The last good movie I watched was Hamlet 2 (few days ago).

Debaser- Children of Men your favorite movie ever....?

It had cool shots, and a good idea for a storyline (should point out this is different from a good storyline), but fell short of being a good movie. And Hamlet 2 was just aweful.

And Kira, what do you like about There Will Be Blood? I found it boring and very very sloooow, yet it somehow got movie of the year so there must be something Im missing
Also as far as Darjeeling Unlimited goes, boring and nothing happened. Being high must have made the difference

I fell in love with There Will Be Blood.
Yeah, it's pretentious. Yeah, it may have been a tad long.
But every time I watch it I look forward to scene after scene and when the movie is over, I have a big grin on my face.
I really enjoy Daniel Day Lewis's performance as well as the cinematography and score

I thought I'd never agree with PockyD...

One movie that should be recommended because of cinematography and visual aesthetics alone is Bladerunner. That's epic cult-**** right there.

Because everyone is going to rehash the same post-1980s stuff here are some good movies that stay relevant despite 30 years old or older (in no particular order):

The Godfather (Part 1 and 2)
The Graduate
The Apartment
The General
Rebel Without a Cause
Blazing Saddles
Young Frankenstein
2001: A Space Odyssey
Jaws
Alien

Good Modernish Foreign Films that I Love:
Cinema Paradiso (Italian)
Life is Beautiful (Italian)
Jeux D'enfants (French)

Yeah... There are a lot more.

Yes, Some Like It Hot IS amazing. Jack Lemmon was a godsend.

And 2001 is great too. I appreciate it for the cultural relevance and the authenticity it brought to science fiction films. Lot of tropes and techniques are taken for granted now.
