SSBPD matters, Chris. Let's not become the only region that doesn't publish its tourney results onto it. That'll only perpetuate the notion that the Midwest sucks.

but it's trueeeeee

I bet if we all lived 3 hours closer to each other we'd be just as good as the coasts though
I think attitude matters just as much as availability. If you have the attitude you can do anything if you put work into it. That's just imo.

at least we have cars now, imagine if we were like the old school players back in the day and had to ride horses to the venue. no thanks

Super true.

I wonder what the difference is between old MW and new MW as far as attitudes and availability goes. The MW just doesn't have eyes on them and isnn't as nationally competitive as it was in the past.

Not trying to make this a MW sucks thing...even though...:smirk:

Meh, he's right though. I also cant find away to change my attitude.

A wise man once told me that everyone has mental limits in which they can improve etc. This is a good example of that.

I think that if you aren't improving maybe you should change the way you look at the game. Once i got my tech skill together i started improving but it wasn't enough to win. So then i just started watching my opponent and countering them. It works so well

I agree with trail. Even when just started playing I never thought that any player was beyond my potential, and after playing for a year and a half that hasn't changed. I never think "kels/tink/vanz/etc played better than I ever could and thats why I lost".

maybe you can have the right to criticize quaz once you've been playing for years with no noticeable improvement
wtf does that mean john? I wasn't trying to be mean or act superior, I'm just trying to help a dude out of his rut. We're all in this together.

Quaz, I think you should seriously pick up a different character. Whenever I do it I learn a lot and improve quickly (since I'm bad with it), and it's lots of fun and very motivating. Plus you aren't as frustrated about bad habits because they haven't been hanging around you forever. You don't have to give up on peach forever, just say "yoshi is fun as hell and I'm going to play him in friendlies/tourneys for a while".

not every lack of improvement is due to "having the wrong attitude", and i think it's unfair to tell that to someone who still plays often and makes a genuine effort to improve.

sometimes people just don't know where to go next with their character. they aren't sure what exactly they are doing wrong and how they should fix it. and they usually can't just go practice more tech skill for automatic guaranteed improvement; that only works for two characters in this game.

improving in melee is like trying to solve a difficult puzzle. sometimes you have huge breakthroughs, and sometimes you are stuck in a rut despite your best efforts.

i'm not saying quaz has the perfect attitude towards this game, but don't be so quick to call him out for something he might not be doing wrong.

Fundamental Attribution Error can be described in the following ways:

Self
1. One's successes are a consequence internal factors. (ex: I beat Marthlord69 because I didn't miss edgeguards and my spacing was better than his.)
2. One's failures are a consequence of external factors. (ex: I lost to Foxpwnzer22 because he plays Fox and I play Peach.)

Peers
3. The successes of peers are a consequence of luck. (Kels wins because he constantly gets lucky. He isn't actually good at the game.)
4. The failures of peers are deserved. They brought it upon them selves. (Marthlord69 lost because he just sucks. I don't know how much he practiced, but he could've practiced more I'm sure.)

I think I've observed all of these behaviors recently.

tldr; no johns

Me and quaz have talked about attitude multiple times this past year including twice last week over spring break when we played smash. I wasn't 'calling him out' on his attitude when he told me last week he thought he had a bad attitude about improvement.

and they usually can't just go practice more tech skill for automatic guaranteed improvement; that only works for two characters in this game.
Yeah, it feels good every thursday to be reminded that I play characters that take no thought/skill and that any improvement I see isn't all the work I've been put into playing smarter. :(

lmao @ john's post. Are you saying that once you feel like you've hit your peak, you should stop trying to get better?

Does anyone else think my fox isn't as good as it used to be? I've been thinking lately that perhaps playing with Sheik and Falco so much has actually made my fox a bit worst.

actually Kelly I feel your fox is better than ever these days. No one can tap that (except for Dart on a good day)

picking up another character sounds great though. I just gotta make sure I STICK with that character for a while.

Kelly, you honestly should focus on your Fox. It's easily your best character. Also, you don't have to play gay with Fox ALL the time. I think you'd benefit by challenging yourself to incorporate different playstyles.

Your Falco is good too, but your Fox is better. I wish you'd play as aggressive with Fox as you do Falco.

Your Sheik is a gay 1-dimensional gimmick. Its only use for you imo is the Samus MU (still not a necessity) and auto piloting your way through MW tournaments, which isn't helping you grow as a player.

i've always said that i like your drive to improve. don't take it personally when i hate on fox or falco.

and you play lots of other characters well (marth, falcon, luigi, yl, etc.), so if i actually thought you weren't playing smart, i'd have no way to explain how you **** me with your secondaries :p

don't put words into my mouth please, i never said you were bad or stupid or anything like that.

i don't understand how people misinterpret my posts so drastically

when did i ever say this?

what i said was that sometimes it's hard to improve because you don't know what to do next

nobody has a "peak". everyone can always get better at this game.

during my first year improvement felt like a puzzle where I would have a breakthrough almost at random, since then I've felt more and more that improvement is something that can be systematic/scientific and if you practice right then improvement is just how much work you put in.

also, kels play fox

I used to think the same as Quaz, for a long time going to tournaments and losing to the same 3 people every time. I don't know how to explain it, but I took a more reactive style to my game as of late and have been doing much better. ****, I've finally beaten both Frank and Rat in bracket. Something I've been wanting to do for a long time now.

Just practice and be patient Quaz. When I see people make mistakes in this game, a lot of the time it's due to their greediness and lack of patience.

lmao @ the Sheik comment. She's so easy to win with though. NO technical barriers to overcome. just be patient and the enemy falls right into your hands. Fox gets ***** by falco so hard. The only match i hate more than fox vs falco is fox vs jiggs. I'm not a big fan of Fox/marth either but i can deal with it.
