TMNT Tournament Fighters was pretty fun. That was my first time playing ever and I was doing priy gud. If you guys have NES/SNES setups I have a lot of games I'd be willing to bring, e.g. Tecmo Bowl, NES Ice Hockey, Yoshi's Cookie, R.C. Pro-Am.

no you don't have to sign up ahead of time, just show up on time. you and your friend should do doubles together, that way you don't have to stand around being bored and unable to play smash for the 2+ hours doubles is going on.
