I guess Cubone should be taken out too? Face it, if Animal Crossing is to get a representative as a playable character, it won't be Nook or Slider.

No, just because if he were to add them as a character, why would he even put them there in the first place.
Nook is a special case because, unlike Cubone, he's one of the few suitable representatives for Animal Crossing, and I think it's worth noting that the Nook in the background is wearing a completely different attire from the one Tom's best known in...

Also, KK Slider has been possibly hinted at in the AC music update and there's been speculation that you unlock him by waiting for his performance.

I believe that Nook will be playable, as not only is it easy to remove him from the background, but he's also wearing one of his lesser known costumes, which always struck me as odd.
That being said, he shouldn't be removed, as its a double standard. Thus, even though I think he'll be in for sure, I adimit there is a lack of evidence, and that he should stay until further notice.
The only character I completely disagree with there is Lip, as that's just a dumb reason to deconfirm, as shown by things like the screw attack, fire flower, pokeball, and others. >_>

He is one of the few because there aren't many major characters in the game, but a Nookalike? A little far-fetched, but yes it's always possible. I'd rather have the mayor as a playable character wielding the Cane of Justice!
The music didn't necessarily have to hint at just KK Slider it could have been hinting at any Animal Crossing character, but we'll never know with Sakurai's crazy ways. I'm still thinking he won't be a character, more likely Nook than him.
I'm not guaranteeing anything, I'm just pointing out that their inclusion is still very possible. In fact, I kind have a gut feeling that one of them might be confirmed tomorrow.
They are more deserving of a "critical condition" than Lip, who is more like "a little more doubtful than before".

That's sort of what I was thinking, as while being in the background doesn't deconfirm them, it doesn't really help them much as potential PC's. They can rescued yet though.

Does anyone else remember that Nook had a couple of kids that would help you out on the second floor of his store once it was upgraded to Nookingtons (or something like that)? Not that I really think that either of them are that character in the screen shot, but it does go to show that there's more than one character that looks like Nook. I'm still for the whole Animal Crossing rep being Mr. Resetti.

I don't recall seeing them in the store, but I remember seeing someone that looked similar to Nook near the fountain one day, and that was the only time I saw him.

I'd actually say that it's more likely to have Cubone playable then it is Tom Nook. There isn't one Cubone in the world of Pokemon really, so having one in the background wouldn't hurt his chances, right?
Wrong. I see the same kinds of logic going behind those still saying that Nook has a chance. He doesn't. I wanted him in, and YES he is a suitable AC fighter, but Cubone was a suitable Pokemon fighter as well. (I'll be it, he was just one of 400 something, but he's still suitable!)
I don't really understand why people can't understand that because he's in the background, he's not going to be playable. I believe it's safe to assume that he won't be playable.
The only AC characters in the background I can see going against this rule are the AC humans (because they're all different, and it wouldn't be awkward to have some AC humans in the background while having your character fighting.), or K.K. Slider. I don't see how K.K. Slider could fight, but Sakurai's hints lead me to believe that he has a higher chance then Tom Nook at least. It'd also be a very interesting way to unlock him!

What the heck...? Why the heck WOULDN'T he have shown them if they're a possible character? Seriously, more than one game allows you to use a Mii as your character avatar. Metroid Prime 3, Mario Strikers, Wario Ware...using a picture of one of your Mii characters as an avatar has NOTHING to do with being able to use one of their heads on a character. That's...I just don't see any correlation there.
