My favorite type is water, because of its amazing versatility. Vaporeon can fill the role as defensive, supporter, sweeper, and a mix between those.

Weather you need a physical sweeper who can take out an entire team,
a physical wall who can easily turn around and sweep an entire team,
a special sweeper who can also offer rapid spin support,
an annoyer like no other,
really, not matter what your needs, chances are, a water Pokemon's got your back.

Why are these threads even made? Inevitably pointless and locked.

The best defensive type has to be Steel or Normal, as Zook said. They have the least amount of weaknesses/most resistances.
I would have to say Ground/Rock/Ice for the best competitive offensive types. Psychic is also a very offensive type.

I think a Dark/ Ghost would be the best type combination...

assuming it had decent stats

Ice, Fire, and Grass are great offensive types, but they're pretty crappy defensively.

Water, Steel, and Normal are pretty nice defensive-wise. Flying, Ghost, and Steel types are nice if you switch Pokemon often.

I'd say water, because Piplup falls into that category, along with other select few that are absolutely sexy + amazing.

I'll have to put Psychic up there too -- almost every single psychic type I've owned in my past teams of playing have been complete power houses. Maybe I just get lucky with the ones I choose, but man most Psychic types are great.

I like grass the most. I can't really explain why, I just think all grass types are unique.

Psychic is probably my second favorite. Back in the 1st and 2nd gen., psychic Pokemon could easily sweep you through the game the quickest.

Ice is pretty cool too, I luff Froslass.

steel is the best defensive typing in the game- look at what it gets paired with.

Dragon is the best offensive typing in the game- look at what it gets paired with.

Steel is probably the best - the only problem is that it's plethora of resistances is matched with some notable weaknesses, such as Fighting and Ground.

Dragon is great for neutral coverage, but all the Steel Pokemon running around in OU makes it less useful.

Water or Steel

I'm not a fan of Empoleon although he holds both types, I just really like the other options those types give.

Magnezone, given he's slow, is defensive like crazy.
Lucario is an awesome sweeper, I suppose he falls quickly but he's versatile
Milotic is a pure water type and is one hell of a wall.
Swampert. 1 weakness and holds down the fort pretty well.
Scizor, OP.
Kingdra is a great defence due to it's typing.
Skarmory. Skarbliss is heavy duty tanking. Skarmory on its own is great too.
It goes on

I think my opinion on typing, based on my favorites, is identical to yours...

However, I am a fan of Empoleon

Speaking of types, does anyone know if there's any combination that only has one 2x weakness, or no weaknesses? I know there are no Pokemon that have said combination, but I'm not sure if such a combination exists...

And Spiritomb.

Flying are my favorite. Even though they got like 3 weaknesses....

I'd say Dragon is the best. It only has 2 weakness. Ground moves only effect one dragon typed pokemon. So that's a EQ dodge. Plus all them Dragons are strong.

Drapion only has a x2 Ground weakness.

EDIT: Kingdra and Palkia have only x2 Dragon weaknesses.

Grass and Ground/Rock are my favourite probably.
Altough R/B had some amazing bug types- I'm looking at you Parasect.

I know they are different types, but I always get mixed up between the differences of rock and ground, and because most of my ground Pokemon are rock as well, I just say Ground/Rock.

Because I have a Graveler.

Sweet deal brah.

Actually on Empoleon, I like him I just never use him. I made a water gym before

Swampert - lol at electric
Milotic - tank<3
Kingdra - lol at everything
Empoleon - lol at grass
Starmie - many gooooooood reasons

Then it was down to Tentacruel or Gyarados
Maybe even Acid Armor B/P Vaporeon :3

Water is win =)
Steel is cool as well

In the Air, Using Up b as an offensive move
Steel is definitely the best defensive type but for offense I'd actually say it's Fighting types nowadays. Most if not all have access to either Close Combat and Superpower(Both 120 base 100% accuracy moves) as well as access to great type combination through the elemental punches or Stone/Quaking(Next gen quake/sliding) I'd say best offensive single typing goes to Fighting and best dual typing goes to Fighting/Fire, giving basically the two best STABS and amazing type coverage to a single pokemon.

Fighting is a decent type overall. Some useful resistances, and two nonexistent weaknesses. Psychic and Flying attacks are uncommon enough that Machamp is viable in competitive play, despite his disappointing speed.

Ice and Fighting are both pretty good.
first post. Ice not so much, having a weakness to rock and fighting is pretty big, as both types of moves are very common. Also, with the absurd amount of Scizors running around, fire is a commonly used move also- nothing good for Ice typed pokes. And with that mentioned, Steel is no good for ice types either :ohwell:

Ice is a great typing. BUT, only when used as a move. Adding an ice-type move to your Pokémon will give you a huge range and you won't get the drawbacks. Of course you don't get the STAB...oh well?

Fighting, I agree is great. A Pokémon with fighting, ground and ice moves is amazing in terms of coverage. Defensively it's also good. Much more than ice.

But still, steel for defense and water for all around <3

Lucario with Ice Punch, Earthquake, Close Combat, = Raep

Covers grass, dragon, flying, ground, fire, electric, rock, poison, steel, dark, normal, ice
12 types are covered <3

And well, you can go and get Ghost/Psychic with Crunch
You can do thunder punch for Water, or just to be surprising in general
Bug is kind of not lucario's department, rock slide if necessary
Fighting is gay, Zen headbutt i suppose

Every type can be potentially covered :O although not in just 1 move set :/
