Might as well get in on this DLC picks thing:

1) Banjo-Kazooie
2) Square rep (Geno or Sora)
3) Amaterasu / Phoenix Wright
4) Nintendo rep (Bandana Dee, Chorus Kids, Rex & Pyra, Mallo, Reckless silhouette guy, etc.)
5) Rayman / Crash / Spyro

Would've included Isaac/Shadow/etc. if I felt Assist Trophies had a chance.
This lineup would probably be the best-case scenario for me.

Either way Banjo is looking likely, beside's did any of you guys see that article about the Nintendo employee saying they hear us for character requests and know who we want? It was just a dumb little off comment but still it gives me hope that when Sakurai said "Nintendo chose the DLC" he means they picked characters they felt would sell real well due to popularly thus we get Geno, Banjo, and some surprise's thrown in. I don't see why Steve and Banjo can't coexist.

Seem like decent choices to me

Sakurai’s tweet seems to imply that Nintendo formed a pool of potential characters, and Sakurai selected the characters he thought can work. Nintendo could have picked characters for any reason, but if anything, I believe full well that Nintendo is aware of how often Banjo is requested. I’d probably rank him number 3 after Geno and Waluigi.

Honestly, as long as I get Banjo, I would never complain about the other 4 character, no matter how much I'd dislike them. That said:

He is, but I don't firmly believe a Spirit can't be a DLC character. I'm not sure I think he's likely, but he is a spirit.

Wait, did Hitagi resend his Banjo comments too because, before he bowed for his source getting leaked baited, it seemed like he was leaning extra hard into Steve being in and Banjo being out. Thinking things over, Hitagi was really confident about Steve and the only plausible scenario I can think of is a Mii costume. This could have been what tripped up Loz18 with Skull Kid knowing what we know now and lines up with Vergeben's statement of Minecraft content but being unsure of the nature of it (Mii costumes have very similar assets to actual characters).

As far as I know, Hitagi has taken back everything they've said with the exception of Steve. They still seem pretty confident on Steve. But given the misunderstanding of everything, I'm not fully convinced that Steve isn't like... a stage hazard or something.

SSB4 had 14 third party Mii costumes and we haven't seen a single new one for Ultimate yet. Based on how early Vergeben was claiming Minecraft content, I think there's a strong possibility that this is what it is.

That’s what I’ve been saying since the beginning, Steve will be a Mii Costume in the vein of the old Virtual Fighter blocking Mii Costume

Granted, this leaves us back at square one, but handily avoids a case for now. Oh, and also increases likelihood of B-K being in, since it would be silly if they did all those negotiations just for a costume.

Same. Just a shame it has no leaflet that covers every base character's specials and FS like for 4's 3DS version, would have been convenient.

Can I ask why Chosen Undead over one of he named characters from Dark Souls? I feel like it would be hard to come to a consensus on how to make a Dark Souls character play given all the varied play styles and there are certainly some great characters (At least from what I’ve played, never finished one proper, currently at Anor Londo in the Remaster on Switch and played a decent amount of Bloodborne).

Also, glad to see the Banjo thread still kicking. I’m sure that the rumors on Steve and the whole Nintendo picking thing have hurt recently, but he’s also the rare requests standing through most of this.

It is most likely real. It has a render of Cirno (from Touhou) that has been confirmed to be an official render and the Ampharos and Zoda pictures match with other pictures of them as Spirits.
