So I just got Doom Eternal, and am having a blast of an anti-demon crusade! It's a lot more difficult than other titles in the series, and the control scheme seems a bit complex, but overall, it's one hell of a good challenge! I'm currently at the Cultist Base.
I have had Doom Eternal for a while now but I haven't played it due to having a weak CPU. I'll upgrade my CPU eventually.

So here we see the Doom Slayer with the Betrayer's hammer fighting against this Khorne World Eater-looking S.O.B. who I can only assume is the Dark Lord. And holy crap, looks like we'll be getting a full-on war between Argents and Demons here! This makes me think the remaining Night Sentinels heard about Doom Slayer killing the Khan Maykr and joined him after some really hard convincing or something.

Aside from the leaked screenshots and the concept art, alongside the teaser trailer, there's still info from the streams.
Like how they announced the Stone Imp and it seems there will be variants of other enemies.
In fact, that makes me wonder about more unique enemies and attacks.
But if we are getting close, then we could figure more stuff by the time it comes out.
The Chaingunner is back but i wish they give him a more unique gimmick than just an energy shield that may be slightly different because it feels like they're hitting some limit with enemies but i do think he look good, even if he reminds me of the Uber Chaingunner from Realm667 while the Imp Stone seems to be a recolor.
In other news, Doom 3 VR edition is a thing and i feel like that game works as a good VR title but i'm not a fan of how it's based off BFG/2019 versions of Doom 3, that made things worse in a lot of ways while not really fixing anything.

Doomslayer has quite a few action figures and statues that Sakurai and the development team would likely use if he got selected for Smash, so he's got that in his favor

I don't know if anybody here is interested, but the Microsoft-Zenimax buyout just got the EU Seal of Approval.


I have no idea what that quote means, but I assume it's a good thing.

Well, for one, it'll probably mean Bethesda will start raising the quality of their products under Microsoft's watch. Whenever a Fallout 5 comes out or whenever Elder Scrolls VI releases, Microsoft might (and should) tell Bethesda "No no no, this won't do. There are too many problems found in these products. You are going to fix these problems right now".

Yeah, I know Microsoft gets flack for all these buyouts, but for the most part they're actually pretty helpful and leniant. I mean, I'm pretty sure Double Fine would've gone bankrupt had it not been for their buyout (apparently they're terrible at money management). Heck, while Rare is DEFINETLY not the company it once was, at least they're still making the games they WANT to make, and are even willing to lend out their IPs.

I had an idea recently if Doomslayer gets in as a Mii character. Instead of usual one type for Mii Fighter, how about all 3? Each type references to intsa-kill/big damaging weapons and power ups.
Brawler will have Berserk
Swordfighter will have the Crucible
and Gunner will have the BFG

Oh yeah, I saw that!

The armor the Dark Lord is wearing looks so enormous, holy crap. In awe at the size of this lad. Absolute unit.

Also, this makes me wonder what will happen in the story that would make the Sentinels side with the Slayer. He's already in hot water from killing the Hell Priests, but killing the Khan Maykr has to have drawn enough ire to actively hunt him across the galaxy somewhat.

As for what gameplay will be like...this makes me wonder if that fortress level will have a warpath system that basically has different demons go after you depending on which part you conquer.

Curious how that argent hammer Doomguy’s sporting will compare to the crucible blade, though can see it playing a notable role in the fight with Davoth, as you pound his armor piece by piece or something.

Yeah, I know Microsoft gets flack for all these buyouts, but for the most part they're actually pretty helpful and leniant. I mean, I'm pretty sure Double Fine would've gone bankrupt had it not been for their buyout (apparently they're terrible at money management). Heck, while Rare is DEFINETLY not the company it once was, at least they're still making the games they WANT to make, and are even willing to lend out their IPs.
Not to mention that not only were they responsible for funding the bulk of Cuphead's development after Studio MDHR's owners had to (re)put their house on mortgage, they even allowed it to be ported to other consoles.

People are just scared of monopolies, when it's actually helpful for some smaller companies.

I still think CacoMallow was real, it just didn't lead to Geno. Also, time means little.
Unless we get another Square-Enix character, I don't think we'll be seeing that Mallow costume (unless it was completely scrapped content to begin with, anyway).

Nice ideas. I especially like the one like Banjo's neutral special. It's very fitting for Doomguy.

Thanks, and yeah, when Banjo first came out I was 100% convinced that that mechanic was a hint towards how an FPS character would handle. Still possible I suppose, fingers crossed

That's sooner than I expected - I still need to finish the first part. (it seems like it throws way too many enemies at you, especially since BFG ammo is basically non-existent and you don't have the Crucible - maybe I'll try it on an easier difficulty)

For those who never picked up on it, Phil Spencer confirmed they have other contractual obligations besides just video games.


He talks about Sony's exclusives but he then mentions other contracts involving "legacy on different platforms".

The armored Baron was something... Microwave Beam mod being most effective, but its armor regenerates quick. Stone Imp was interesting too, though annoying in numbers.

Gotta say too the sentinel hammer had more utility than I thought it would. Definitely liked using it in conjunction with flame belch.

The last phase of the Dark Lord fight took me awhile with how tired I was but eh... Yeah, I see what everyone meant on the ending now. Suppose it's about what you'd expect though with Doom; everything being built up well (especially with the backgrounds of the levels) and then just ending like... that.

Apparently you can save hammer ammo using the microwave beam mod which is pretty effective on the ghost summons (final phase of the Dark Lord fight), so will do that next time instead of just using the hammer on them. You just gotta glory kill two of the zombies though to be able to use it again.

welp, the game crashed on me after the final boss, ain't that swell
despite how "cute" they got with the new enemy types requiring very specific counters (the new prowler was probably my least favorite as I hated the loss on mobility), I generally found this easier than the first part. Gotta say, I hated the final boss, giving them spammable regenerative abilities makes the battle feel like an endless loop of no progression whatsoever. The hammer is a good control tool, but still didn't really satiate my appetite for new weapons I was hoping these DLCs would deliver. Kinda feel this wasn't as good as the first part but eh, still decent I guess. Pretty disappointed we never got to ride on that huge robot.

I'm glad they changed it. The video says everyone "loved" the difficulty how it was, but I've been playing through part 1 on Hurt Me Plenty difficulty and it's largely been frustrating. (I tried that Slayer Gate shortly before the update came out, and the Archviles alone were a pain to deal with - I don't know if one Archvile resurrected the other, but it felt like I was dealing with three Archviles at once, and that's without even reaching the possessed Marauder, which sounds like a nightmare to deal with)

Dying about a dozen times in an area because the game throws eight Mancubi, two Tyrants, three Blood Maykrs, and a Marauder at you isn't fun to me - it just comes across as inflating the difficulty, especially when you have to start from the very beginning of that fight if they corner you (which is very easy when there's that many Mancubi, or when you're dealing with a Tyrant, a Marauder, and a Blood Maykr all at once) and you die.

I don't agree with those enemy spawn nerfs to Part 1. That's like changing Plutonia to have less Chaingunners and Revenants. I appreciated getting to fully play with my endgame tool kit in that campaign, and replacing a possessed Baron with a Imp is kinda insulting.

As for Part 2, yeah I guess it was a lot easier. I almost never used my BFG ammo and I always felt bad finding those pick ups and just leaving them there. Though I did embarrassingly end up losing 3 lives to a green Prowler because I didn't realize that Blood Punching it was the only way to kill it...

On a more positive note I do like the hammer way more the the sword. having it be a chargeable attack that hurts/dizzies enemies and helps manage resources is a lot better then a instant kill sword you can only use three times, unless the map has a ammo pick up for it. And the Meat Hook grapple points feels like something the game should have always had, I mean it is a grappling hook, of course it should be used to traverse the environment.

Davoth was not a very good final boss though. His regeneration made the fight feel like it could go on FOR EVER. Couple that with how I never felt like I was in danger of dying and the fight just felt painfully boring, and I just wanted to get it over with.

Ok so can somebody tell be why The Slayer and The Devil look the same? I get that Davoth is the original creator of existence and he manipulated Khan and Sam to power up Doomguy into a demigod as part of his plan to get vengeance on the Maykrs.

But why does a descendant of BJ Blazkowicz look exactly like The Devil? Does this mean that the invasion of Phobos and killing Daisy were just to push this convoluted plan to get Doomguy to hate Demons and hope he'll take out the Maykrs first once he discovers that they allied with them?

These balance changes really shouldn't apply to UV or Nightmare at the very least but then they'd have to rewrite the difficulty logic to deal with things beyond damage and aggression numbers especially when switched in-game. Everything about DLC2 just seemed underutilised with short arenas and even making the optional encounters relatively easy. When I saw the end boss had 5 phases I thought there would be so much more to it but it's largely tedious. They also really doubled down on the story elements I didn't like and it's pretty incoherent, they need to rein it in because what they wrote screws with the appeal of Doom's simple excuse plot.

Despite this I did actually enjoy it, it just could've been a lot more. I hope they make future Master Levels or standalone maps that better integrate the new demons and the hammer in a more satisfying way. Sadly it's pay-walled content so I could see it being locked in a box forever.

I think I'm going to play the Ancient Gods part 1 on the easiest difficulty. I've been trying to beat the Slayer Gate on the third level for what feels like an hour now - having to fight seven boss-level enemies (up to three at a time) in a cramped area with little to no health, armour, or ammo (I try to chainsaw weaker enemies, but they're often right in the middle of these boss-like enemies) is not even remotely fun. It's insanely frustrating, I'm often forced into corners thanks to the sheer number of enemies, and even if I complete it, I won't feel a sense of satisfaction - just relief that it would be over.

It sucks that I have to resort to lowering the difficulty, but I'd rather do that than force my way through a series of missions that basically feels like the developers trying to screw over the players as creatively as possible. It seems like these missions are built for you to have massive amount of BFG ammo, except the game gives you almost literally no BFG ammo.

Yeah, A big part of Doomguy's appeal to me was that he was just some random guy who was just to angry to stop, and he's powers were a reward for being so good at what he does. Now they made it his destiny because he's son of a god or something. It feels almost as cheap and tone deaf as making Naruto ninja Jesus. But at least in Naruto they explain the reincarnation crap, here I feel like they just made the final boss look like you because they though it would be a cool stinger but make no attempts to justify it.

I mean, I'm fine with Davoth manipulating the Maykrs, Because that gives a real reason for that Divinity Machine and Kahn's premonition to exist. Hell I guess Doomguy being special does explain why the demons went out of their way to kill his pet bunny and put a portal in his home town.

But I as you said, why would Davoth want to power up someone who wants to exterminate him and his people, when he had no plan on how to deal with you afterwards.

Why start over? If your only having trouble with a Slayer Gate, can't you just skip it?

I'd prefer to get as many of the unlockables as possible. I thought I had to restart the DLC to lower the difficulty, but it turned out I could just lower it for that gate through the settings and return it back to what I was playing on (Hurt Me Plenty) afterwards.

I get you. I wouldn't want to leave anything unfinished in a playthrough either, just felt like pointing out the fight you were finding frustrating was an optional challenge. Though I myself am guilty of just restarting a run when I'm frustrated with it. Like after that green Prowler that took my three lives...even though I never ended up not dying again past that point lol.

Truthfully I see where they were coming from with balance changes, but I do genuinely wish there was an option for whether we experience said changes (know some are bugged by the telegraphing/sound effects on Marauders being much more pronounced).

Not sure if that's best on an entirely new difficulty (maybe "Classic" added as a selectable thing like Extra Life mode) or just something in the game options, as I'm sure everyone saying it is too easy would still feel as such for the game as a whole regardless of what they did. IMO, the lowering the difficulty as you need to thing shouldn't be viewed as negative as it is. But it also shouldn't dictate things from those that like the torturechallenge.

Really I'm just left wishing they'd pump out more Master Level variants, but am aware that those take an immense amount of time. Sure the first playthrough is brutal for new enemy types, but all subsequent playthroughs for me personally have felt lacking outside of any artificial difficulty added in my part (changing runes/mods mostly, which doesn't work out when specific ones are needed half the time).

I hope it's something they address, more than anything. Looking at stuff like the fanmade Horde mode gave me hope they'd consider what the community wants, the optional challenge gates thing sorta hit that vibe but then they still leave out things like Screechers/Spirit or totem buffs from practically all of them. The rooms themselves felt creative, but the arenas rarely capture stuff like "blood punch/hammer through 30 demons while avoiding the one will definitely get you killed" feeling.

Thinking about it now, the master level for Super Gore Nest (with the unrivaled difficulty of enemy placements) may have mostly just desensitized some of us to TAG part 2. As someone mentioned too, there was only like two Archviles in that whole DLC, so another reason it wasn’t as hard apart from some of the enemy nerfs. Am glad Hugo said there would be more master levels at least, so looking forward to that. Master levels for any of the DLC stages would be nice on that note, but just more base campaign levels would be fine too.

Admittedly, I skipped round 2 of the escalation encounters in TAG part 2 since the game said they were optional and I didn’t want to risk my extra lives on my first couple runs, but starting to go back to them now, and they’re harder than the average sections I guess. There still being slayer gate challenges like in part 1 would’ve been preferable though, but I guess this is the substitute for that.

With the season pass based year release goal, COVID, that horrible Texas event and WFH, i'm not surprised TAG 2 was rushed in some areas.
It's probably why a lot of new enemies used recolored/revamped models and one in particular was made of 2016 MP assets and was a just wind particles.
I also would almost defend the Cursed Prowler (Because a poison gimmick is something i wanted to be "canonized") but either he could have been tweaked or the Cursed variant could have been given to a different enemy.
We also reached a point of seeing a bit too many "green light" enemies and i believe with enough time, enemies could have had more uniqueness into them.
The Dark Lord not only didn't reach that "1v1" feeling some expected (Even the Marauder has an SSG), his phases also didn't have as much variety as Samur's did, aside from maybe summoning some heavy/super heavy enemies.
The story in itself also got weirder, even if i was always a bit skeptical about how the lore is handled but even people that i know were into it were confused and weren't fans of it.
I remember seeing concept of some of the Archdemons that ruled Hell and they were interesting.
An evil Doomguy would make more sense if it was a creation by Hell as a response to Doomguy that actually played like an evil copy gameplay-wise and the face was a bit closer as an "HD remastering" of the HUD face.
Immora felt like a retcon to how demons and tech were handled in modern Doom, which in itself was already a retcon to how it was in classic Doom, since these games are supposed to be related.
I'm also not a fan of some of the TAG 1 changes and how, so far, you can't switch between the new and old menu themes (Which sort of adds salt to the wound, after the Mick Gordon situation).
The expansion was still fun, of course and i liked the meathook targets and the hammer.
The Barbarian skin was also neat.
I believe id still has plans for the "Doom universe" and even the Slayer, but whether it's a means of innovation or because of how people reacted at the direction ot things, i wonder how many people think another reboot would do, even as a spin-off that still has concept from the new games.
Or even a break from Doom and id focusing on other stuff.

I don't blame people that don't care for this.

So I went back to play AG Part 1 on Ultra Violence (I have only beat it on Hurt me Plenty before)

Eye turrets are alot easier to deal with. I could just shoot two sticky grenades at them and they die now. And I completely fine with those tentacles being removed from that fog section.

But the not only did a Baron not spawn where you first encounter the Spirit, The Spirit itself didn't show up at all for me till the first arena fight in the swamp.

Personally, I think they should bring back some of the monsters they axed from the start, to at the very least encourage me to use any of those four chainsaw fuel tanks they have there. And fix the Spirit's introduction, if they think a Baron is too much at least replace them with a heavy class demon. Either way an arena fight is not a good place to introduce your new gimmick enemy.
