Here's to hoping Doomguy gets confirmed for Smash DLC tonight. It seems like everything is aligned for the next fighter to be either Doomguy, Geno, or Crash. Or that's just our smash speculation brains setting ourselves up for a big upset.

If that interview never happened I would be gunning for Doomguy right now. Not getting my hopes up. The VGAs would be perfect for a western, M-rated character but I don’t think Doomguy is in. Would love to be wrong though.

All chances as with Geno and any Square rep has been pretty much dashed.

Man, I really wanted Doomslayer in Smash Ultimate. I can somewhat see some representation in the form of maybe a Mii Costume or a Spirit Event, maybe he’ll even be revealed later down the line, but this was his time and fate did not smile upon him.
His last chance is that development perhaps took longer than anticipated so they revealed tonight’s character instead, meaning he’d be the next challenger. If not, then we have to barter for a Mii Costume that maybe comes with BFG Division or E1M1.

I’m sorry comrades. Perhaps we can rip and tear with a new vessel in the future.

Well then. I'm still reeling from the shock and hype. I'm having the trailer on repeat every 30 minutes or so. It was amazing.

I feel bad for other SE reps like Crono, Neku, Sora (yes, that one), Lara Croft and Geno. Oh man, Geno. He is missing in action and his body is yet to be found but chances are the body will be shown in the upcoming showcase of Sephiroth.

I feel bad for the Slayer. Not sure what to make of his chances now. They took a hit and might be lower than low but I'll some little semblance of optimism. Doom Slayer still has the recognition of FPS', Third-Party Western'ess and stuff.

We may get a Mii Costume out of him but who knows. The possibility of seeing him in one of the remaining spots is still there.

I'll be hopeful. In the meantime, there's Eternal to tide us over. (Physical edition, please...)

summed up my thoughts on the situation pretty well, I don't think the Slayer is entirely out of the running, but the little hope I had for him has definitely grown smaller after this (not to even mention Square reps that I wanted like Crono or Neku, those are dead as far as I'm concerned lol). I like to think the old Mallow mii costume leak was likely fake by now, but maybe now is a good time as ever to kill that rumor with Sephiroths presentation.

Yeah, didn't think of that at the moment but that means the Cacomallow leak is fake and dead. A shame. Since it looks really rad and the implications were even better.

I'll have the mentality that I had with Ridley of: "Probably won't happen but I would love to be wrong" and then

happened. This will be with Doom Slayer for me from now on (and Sephiroth was in a way like that too to me. Not possible but you never know with companies).

Geno after so much speculation and possibilities to be gone, it stings but my hype and shock its overwhelming that and I'm not feeling any disappointment. Also since I got most of my wants, I am satisfied, so there's that.

Sigh

Time to wait to see what happens next now. The Sephiroth presentation, Geno's whereabouts, The Slayer's ultimate (no pun intended) fate and Doom Eternal 's Switch physical edition (if only) and where the DLC of it goes from now on...

For me personally, nothing's really changed. I didn't think Doomguy was likely before the TGAs, and I don't think he's likely after the TGAs. Though I would be lying if I said that I wasn't hoping he'd get revealed tonight, because man...I was. That being said, I don't think him not showing up tonight hurt his chances of making it in anymore than that interview already did.

All that happens now is whether Cacomallow turns out to be true.

For the Slayer to have the best of chances, we need only the Mallow costume to be revealed. That means that the Cacodemon would still potentially be a future possibility.

If neither costume is revealed, CacoMallow is dead and buried. If both costumes are revealed, Doom Slayer has effectively been Mii Costumed out of the running.

I wasn't expecting much but I did hope a little they would do it this time. Not much had changed and it's not like Sephiroth is a small-scale reveal either. That said, I was disappointed that's who they chose. I liked FF7 and have a lot of nostalgia for it but I was completely fine with Cloud, but I never cared much about Sephiroth and I don't like that they double dipped Final Fantasy VII of all things. Not only do Square have other franchises, they have other Final Fantasy games. The silver lining is they'll have to beef up the gaping hole of FF7 material a bit, I guess this answers why they were so stingy with the spirits in the base game. Hopefully there are more than just 2 extra songs.

There are still Mii costumes to look forward to. I think everybody expects they'll be Square only but you never know. I can see Tifa, Barrett and the return of the Chocobo hat. We'll probably get Geno, maybe even something western like Tomb Raider or Deus Ex.

I generally don't bother to pay attention to these awards anyway, I doubt these panels are anymore qualified than I am and like most people I only care about the announcements because it's really just a commercial thing. That said, it feels like Doom Eternal was too proud of the fact that it was a video game to be allowed to win lol. Inviting mostly film celebrities and TLOU2 being allowed to sweep like that on what was pretty much it's cinematic elements definitely looks bad if you want the awards to be about video games.

Not that I wasn't disappointed given the timing of everything, but my hopes and thoughts aren't too different than before for Doomguy's odds. I look at it more like, sure it was lining up well but it lined up just as well for Sephiroth/FF (if not better considering FF7R actually won stuff). Plus Sephiroth doesn't fill the gameplay role that Doomguy would at all, and timing has never been the be all end all anyway.

There's still enough to be pessimistic about like the interview and maybe getting Mii Costumed, but hey there's still Eternal DLC coming too. It ain't over til it's over, try to keep a level head and don't get too hype while still being enthusiastic.

I actually forgot how bad and broken the system is, lmao. No wonder Doom Eternal didn't get that far in awards.

Also too I guess, the lack of best shooter category this time around. Still, it helped that Doom 2016 didn't have some blockbuster movies disguised as games with mass financial support and marketing to contend with; mostly Overwatch but despite it winning, Doom '16 still got plenty awards overall. Not this time though, despite Eternal being the bigger and better game (campaign-wise at least).

I feel like that was going to happen but i'm surprised TLOU2 got almost every award it was nominated for except the one category that had votes from players.
Even if you like the game and there's some arguements to be said about trolls or people obsessed at hating the game, there's still stuff to be said about video game journalists, how it poorly represents tastes of most gaming demographics, this favoritism, crunch, maybe some other stuff...
At least we still know people will talk about Doom and make great content while TLOU2 could be another Bioshock Infinite situation.
I just hope ZeniMax doesn't become tough on id because they suddenly think "maybe Eternal wasn't good enough" because they just didn't pay the judges enough and i fear TLOU2 makes Sony's preferences on cinematic games even worse than it already is, when members of Japan Studio already left to make their own studio.
Either way, this whole thing is a mess.

Sephiroth is a surprising addition but one that i think is great and sounds like something you'd hear from a 2005 GameFaqs post, as cliche as this sounds.

Once Sakurai's presentation comes we'll know if the CacoMallow rumor will come through. At least for the Mallow part.

Though I do get increasingly worried that I don't think there's been a rumor going on for THIS long.

That said, Sephiroth was an amazing reveal.
I mean sure, I wanted Crono way more, or Lara, but Seph is great too.
Gonna have a lot of fun in WoL's Boss Rush with the SquEnix boys.

The closest that I can think of is Vergeben saying that Steve would be in Smash - he was saying that before the base game launched or shortly after its release, and it only just amounted to anything in the past few months. (and even then, it's unclear how accurate he was)

Vergeben said Minecraft was getting content in the game back in May 2018, before the official E3 reveal of Ultimate. He leaked that around the same time he did Snake.

So in the trailer, Galeem was obliterated by Sephiroth, a being that turned himself into a sort of heavenly deity. Galeem's theme was being an angelical type as well.

Which now leaves us with Darkhom. The opposite. The devil like being.

If they ever do a trailer where Darkhom is also defeated, I presume characters who could do just this must be both, extremely powerful, and hell-themed.

So, my guesses:

Doomguy.
Dante
Hades (KI) or Medusa
Hades (Hades)

On a lesser scale:

I won't lie when the trailer starter with them righting Galeem I thought Doomguy had a chance for that reason. I could totally see him being revealed with Dharkon, or maybe a follow-up to Ridley's trailer.

To be fair they have used Dharkon in Hero's trailer but it didn't get destroyed. So we'll see.

I feel that we might get another trailer with Dharkon bejng the focus but it being defeated like this last one. That could be a good way to introduce Doom Slayer.

And it's possible for another with noth being defeated but then I'm not sure who could be the very last character saved for that but yeah.

Dharkon is hovering over a crowd of fighters, consisting of Luigi, Simon, Steve, Terry, Dark Samus, Dark Pit and Min Min. Dharkon prepares to perform a decisive strike on the worn-down fighters, only to freeze in place as though something was pushing into them from behind. Dharkon starts trembling, an ominous green glow erupting from his eye, and he could only let out a scream akin to a siren of scraping metal before he explodes in a shower of darkness and green energy, a familiar armored monster killer with a massive gun being revealed from behind.

Now that I was able to fully play through it after a hotfix, the master level for Super Gore Nest was one of the most challenging things yet. All those Tyrants and Archviles at the end. Definitely gonna go through it again soon for some of the other rewards.

Either that, or have an obscure figure charge past the fighters, fire a hooked chain into Dharkons eye, pulling themselves up to it before shoving a chainsaw into it, causing Dharkon to explode in a shower of shadows.

This is slightly Doom related but anyone remembers when an expansion of Spear of Destiny used Doom textures on map 25?
Apparently, id themselves weren't happy that Formgen used those textures and there were some later versions that used alternatives for those UAC textures to suit a sci-fi theme.
But i think neither Steam and GOG used those versions, so you'll still get the UAC theme.

I always thought a better way to introduce Slayer was to pick up from the Ridley trailer and have him show up to help Samus fight Ridley. Maybe even have him and Ridley fall down that pit into a lava area so it looks like they're fighting in hell.

Something I've liked for that trailer is a callback to Samus' fear with Ridley's reflection in her visor - seeing Ridley actually afraid of Doom Slayer reflected in his visor. Yknow, "Only Thing They Fear" and whatnot.

Tbh, I think Bayonetta or Ganon makes more sense to be his trailer rival. Because Bayo is a demon summoner, and Ganon is a literal demon.

I mean, he did destroy a Titan capable of generating a Black Hole so large that it could suck an entire universe into Hell.

That, and he's likely set to destroy the Doom universe's equivalent to Satan, as well.

I mean... Sephiroth could potentially be 0KO'd by Isabelle in this game, so..

I wasn't implying anything, or at least it wasn't my intention to have any sort of negative undertones in my message. I was asking mainly out of curiosity. In fact I haven't played Final Fantasy 7, so i'm definitely not an authority on the subject of Doomguy vs Sephiroth. Though I will say it's hard to say if Doomguy canonically "struggled" against a titan(I assume you're talking about the Icon of Sin right, if not then my mistake), as it all kinda depends on the player's skill. At the end of the day it's as you said. It's Smash so it's not really meant to be taken seriously, and it's all just for fun.
