The trailer begins at the front entrance of the fallen Sentinel city of Taras Nabad, accompanied by the forlorn instrumentation of
The Betrayer. At the foot of the gates stand three figures - Samus, Sephiroth and Luigi, the latter armed with his Poltergust G-00.
The gate grinds open for the fighters, startling Luigi and causing him to cower behind Sephiroth's, though he quickly regains composure and the three make their entrance into the abandoned city. Shots fade in and out as the trio pass through various hallways and courtyards, including the chamber containing the Divinity Machine.
In the sewers, Luigi becomes distracted by a purple glow from doorway flanked by two wolves, which sees him wander off from the other two. Entering the room, he bears witness of a strange, fleshy mound with a purple portal emanating from it.
As the plumber tentatively approaches the Gore Nest, a distant growl startles him into accidentally activating his Poltergust on full blast.
The trailer cuts back to Samus and Sephiroth, who have now reached the throne room. While Samus is scanning for threats, Sephiroth takes his time to stride around the room with fervent zeal, seating himself upon the throne as if to relish in its visceral decadence.
Cutting back to Luigi as he attempts to regain control of the wayward vacuum head, it ends up getting stuck on the heart of the gore nest and, in his efforts to pull it free, he inadvertently tears the heart off with a gory discretion shot. Standing up in a daze, Luigi observes the heart dislodged in the heat of his Poltergust before quickly fleeing in terror, the Gore Nest releasing an ear-piercing screech as the room is cast in the demonic red glow of several energy vortexes. The music now begins to pick up with
the Light Combat Variation of Meathook...
Back in the throne room, Sam and Seph are startled as a shadowy figure begins darting around the room, moving between shadows and the lowered platforms surrounding the throne room. As Sephiroth rises from the throne and unsheaths the Masamune to join Samus in the search, he fails to catch sight of a flaming, horned skull rising from the pit behind him.
An ear-piercing screech sees Sephiroth turn towards the Lost Soul, allowing the creature to impact the One-Winged Angel smack-dab in the chest and staggering him. Samus, still peering over the edge for the figure, whips around to witness the commotion.
The shot pans from behind her to reveal Sephiroth standing a short distance away, his wing unfurled and staring her down with a flaming red glow in his eyes...
Sephiroth leaps high into the air, Masamune angled downwards to perform "that technique" on Samus. As the Bounty Hunter raises her gun to defend herself, she lowers her guard and shields her vision from a blinding light that begins shining from the broken ceiling, casting Sephiroth as a silhouette...
Only for the music to abruptly cut off as Sephiroth is impaled in the back by a large claw attached to a chain, which pulls up a heavily armoured, humanoid silhouette to him. The figure raises its left arm as a serrated blade extends from its wrist and, with a single sweeping strike,
slices off Sephiroth's wing before blasting him into the surrounding abyss with a double-barrel shotgun in his opposite hand, which the chain-attached claw has since retracted into.
Samus regains her composure and and raises her Arm Cannon at the figure, still obscured by the now-dying light and with Sephiroth's severed wing in its left hand.
The figure then throws the wing away in a shower of black feathers, the light fading to reveal none other than the
Doom Slayer, reloading the Super Shotgun in a swift motion.
With SSG locked and loaded, he raises the Diabolical Musket in one-hand and aims it at Samus;
DOOM SLAYER
TEARS THROUGH THE HORDE
Before either of the two godlike warriors fire their weapons, loud banging is heard from a pair of doors at the opposite end of the throne room. The two turn their aim to the doors, only for Luigi to burst through them in a wild panic, running past the supersoldiers to cowering behind the throne. The music kicks into
Meathook's intro as the Slayer retracts the Doomblade, exchanging his SSG for the Combat Shotgun and equipping its Stickybomb Launcher mod.
From beyond the door, an enormous horde of Zombie Soldiers, Imps, Gargoyles, Hell Nobles, Cacodemons and Arachnotrons begin pouring into a long corridor, barrelling towards the throne room in a frenzied rage. The two supersoldiers (and Luigi) raise their weapons against the demonic horde, the shot panning to a close-up of the Slayer cocking the Combat Shotgun in time with
the last two beats of Meathook before the drop:
Cue an immediate cut to the Slayer in-game, viciously tearing through the Smash roster with his varied arsenal from Eternal. Some highlights include:
- Shadow Moses Island: Dark Pit deploying his Guardian Orbitars, only for the Slayer to fire a Heat Blast from his Plasma Rifle that pierces the Orbitars and damage Dark Pit anyways.
- Norfair: The Slayer nailing a jetpacking Dedede with an Arbalest bolt from the Ballista.
- The Great Cave Offensive: Sephiroth, Bowser and Ganondorf attempting to flee the Slayer, only for Ganon (the slowest of the bunch) to get struck by the Meathook, which sees the Slayer pulled to the Demon King before fatally SSG-blasting him into an overhead damage zone.
- Final Destination: Bayonetta attempting to recover from offstage via Witch Twist, only to end up on the receiving end of a remotely-detonated rocket fired downwards from the Slayer's Paingiver Rocket Launcher. While both are caught in the blast, the Slayer is sent airborne whereas Bayo is spiked into oblivion.
- Gaur Plain: The Slayer crouching on the left side of the stage, looking on as Isabelle and a Bunny-hooded Daisy bounce around. From the right side, Lucas PK-Freezes the latter two, only for the Slayer to "thaw" them with the Flame Belch before gunning for the now-fleeing Lucas.
- Smashville: A showcase of the Slayer's Final Smash - BFG-9000. Equipping the eponymous weapons, the Slayer fires a signature green energy ball into a group of fighters; Bowser, Ganondorf, Bayonetta, Ridley and Sephiroth. Tendrils extend from the ball, immobilising and damaging the fighters within its vicinity. The ball impacts Sephiroth, which launches all the fighters offstage at great velocity (Sephiroth moreso than the others).
Smash cut back to trailer footage, the trio manages to mop up the remaining few demons. Samus even nails a Cacodemon in the throat with a Rocket, which detonates and explosively inflates the monocular meatball's stomach in a comical manner before it plummets into the abyss. With the demons defeated, a blue swirling Slipgate opens up in front of the throne, which the Slayer wordlessly walks through. Looking at each other with a shrug, Samus and Luigi tentatively follow the Slayer through the portal.
The three now find themselves on the BFG10K platform on Phobos, right at the front entrance of the massive superweapon. The door begins to open as it did in the Doom Eternal prerelease gameplay trailer, with shots cutting between different angles of three figures behind the door; armed missile pods on a sled, a four-barrelled rocket launcher winding up, and an ignited Argent Axe being dragged across the floor.
The final shot pans back to unveil the figures: a Doom Hunter, a Tyrant, and a Marauder.
The Only Thing They Fear Is You begins playing as the Slayer draws his Crucible, ignites it, and raises it as the Marauder does the same.
Just as the two blades are swung and strike each other, the riff drops and the trailer cuts to the stage showcase.
What follows is a supercut of the stage - Unholy Crusade - showcasing the Slayer and other fighters battling it out across Doom Eternal's various backdrops, including:
- Fortress of Doom: The Bridge of the space station.
- Cultist Base: One of the exterior arenas from the first third of the level.
- Mars Core: The arena right in front of the entrance to the BFG 10K.
- Nekravol Part 1: The entrance of the Soul Factory, next to the chained, lava-crying Titan.
- Urdak: The Khan Maykr's arena. The Khan herself may fly onto the arena and attack the fighters much like in her boss fight, firing off energy pillars/projectiles and setting the floor alight with energy.
Alongside these shots is a showcase of the two main gimmicks of the stage:
- Respawning explosive barrels - self-explanatory.
- Demon spawns - Heavy or Super-Heavy Demons from Eternal are summoned onto the stage to harass the other fighters, their threat escalating with their type; Prowlers and Cacodemons are punching bags, Marauders and Tyrants can be downright boss-tier fights.
The trailer ends on the second boss arena of Final Sin with
the escalating cries of "RIP! AND! TEAR!" accompanied with an aggressive drumbeat. The towering, goat-headed visage of the Icon of Sin rushes in from the darkness and slams its fist on the ground, immediately cutting to the Smash logo.
