i do feel like Steve at least trips Master Chief’s approach to Smash a bit compared to Doomguy.
Personally I don’t think Nintendowill choose MC solely because lulconsolewars. I mean Minecraft is on a whole other league so it made sense. And it’s multi platform. Even PS users have access to Minecraft.
Doom has that history behind it, and has been available for everything. Even pregnancy tests lol. Jk
2 years ago Mojang said (or implied) they weren't in talks with Nintendo.
An Ex-Mojang community manager today said they have been in talks for at least 5 years.
Just putting that out there, maybe ID was lying under NDA too?

It's a nice thought. Personally the thing that strikes me most is Fallout being the only Zenimax IP represented so far, it's hard to believe there won't be something from Doom, Elder Scrolls, or even Wolfenstein. I'll maintain that tiny bit of hope that they went with Doomguy as a fighter despite everything said.
I think the most interesting aspect about all this, is that Steve is the first TRUE western character, and that Mojang was the copyright at the end of the video, NOT Microsoft. So that reopens up the Doomguy copyright debate, and also squashes the whole argument of "Well there's not a true western in yet, since Banjo, Diddy, and K. Rool are from RARE when they were under Nintendo". I'm certainly glad that's dead, and Master Chief's chances are hurt after Steve as well. Though I definitely wouldn't completely write him off yet. Nothing's over until the fat lady sings, or uh...in this case Sakurai. It also goes without saying to never expect the expected, everyone was guessing Geno cause of Mario's 35th anniversary, or a Pokemon character and yet it was Steve of all characters to get in.
Well the Bethesda sale doesn’t finalize until June anyway. So if DoomGuy is in (or even Dovahkiin), MS probably wasn’t a factor at all in the decision.
Does anyone have any of the old leaks with both Steve & DoomGuy on them? I think that’s the biggest thing helping him rn. I really believe that there’s some truth to the Steve stuff. Hopefully it’ll prove true for the Slayer & even his ninja buddy, Hayabusa.

I’ve always had some hope that Marty was lying in the interview to throw everyone off since the Doomslayer had been “leaked” so many times. Last years many people viewed him as guaranteed and after the interview no one expects him anymore.
Papagenos talks of the possibility given negotiations of Steve taking 5 years to be in Smash that Cacomallow could occur tomorrow leading up to Doom Slayer being in the game eventually.

Wait, if Cacomallow were to somehow be true (I highly doubt it at this point), wouldn't that HURT Doomguy's chances because it didn't come with him? Or am I looking at this wrong?

After watching the video I hope that twitter post about Master Chief being a mii costume comes true. Not out of spite or anything negative, I just think it would be really cool to see, especially if it came with the Halo theme as a bonus track.

Cacomallow heavily implies that Doomguy's coming, mainly because it's extremely weird that they'd pick a Cacodemon as the mii rather then a Doomguy mii costume. Unless a Doomguy mii comes with him, but it seems just as unlikely to get two Doom related miis, since that doesn't really happen to DLC franchises without some sort of playable character being in. This is assuming of course if the leak is real which no one really knows at this point if it is or isn't. Though I do admit PapaGenos makes a strong argument towards it being real in that video linked above, again though I think it's best to assume it's fake. That way no one has false hope. If it is real though then cool.

Yeah, based on what we've seen, it's one costume for non-playable 3rd party franchises. Doomguy, as much as I'd hate to admit it, can work as a Mii Gunner. So why just go with the Cacodemon hat? It's not even a Sans situation where a side character is more popular than the protag.
I'm 99% certain at this point that the Cacodemon hat was just a mod, the whole thing just being a troll to suggest two particularly popular characters were on the horizon. Hoping the marine doesn't get Mii costumed today but if he does, at least it's recognition of a sort.

I mean, if we got a remix of E1M1 with it that'd certatinly help lessen the blow. And just like that we go another update with no Doom content in sight, no MC costume either for whatever that's worth.

Travis not getting any music either makes me doubt it. It seems like such a waste.
On to 2021 for the next fighter announcement I suppose. My guess at a schedule is that we won't see something until February, and perhaps get 2 more reveals around June with the last fighter just about meeting the deadline in December 2021. My wishful thinking is that the Game Awards 2020 are worth watching and they announce Doomguy.
Steve is a very interesting choice because even right now, he looks fake and Photoshopped, due to the contrast between MineCraft's art style/identity and most of Smash (Steve himself is technically placeholder art because originally, it was supposed to have a different art style).
But it's still an important game that even has a lot of innovation for Smash and Sakurai loves that game.
It makes sense with where the music comes from, because the relaxing OST is an example of how MineCraft is so hard to translate to Smash.
Poor Travis, but i don't think Ultimate is even the last Smash game, so who knows about Smash 6 if we're alive at that point.
Since Doom is now MS owned, i wonder about the impact of that.
In the mean time, have some new ammo packs I've made for the upcoming crate weapon overhaul for Combined_Arms. I'll be ditching the current infinite reload system cus that sucks. pic.twitter.com/GNXzKk2L2l
We totally lost to the new boss, the Cyberdemon. Not much of a surprise I guess. We were on one of the tougher maps, so maybe that's my excuse. We did manage to knock him down by about 30% of his health. We'll be uploading the video on Facebook and other sources later. pic.twitter.com/OzUjiqKfPY
If you're wondering how much work can really be done during a single month, check out the Doomworld thread for a list of the insanely cool projects that were made during #NaNoWADMo 2018 and 2019: https://t.co/9pAYDx136Vpic.twitter.com/t9uqIKd5ED

We're also getting closer to the Ancient Gods DLC, but anyway, let me see what Doom related stuff can i intereest some here with.
Again, FP2 was likely already decided ages before the buyout, so if Doomguy made it in then, nothing should change from here on out.
I disagree with base Minecrafts music being too relaxing. I'm positive that tracks like Sweden could've been rearranged to give them a more upbeat, exciting tempo fit for Smash. Heck, I still find that explanation flimsy, since you've got stuff like Pikmin's "Environmental Sounds" and some pretty mellow Animal Crossing tracks.
Also, Pigstep says hi:
As a side note, you can use the "Media" tab to post those Twitter links as embedded Tweets. Just make sure you hide them all under a spoiler tab; the mods don't like excessive image spam.
Well, that presentation was fun. Steve is such an interesting and fun character. More than I thought he was going to be.
There was no sign of the Cacomallow Mii Costumes anywhere to be found but at least we got to see that if Doom Slayer makes it, then he can be considered as part of Bethesda/Zenimax copyright in the title instead of Microsoft seems like. (Ex. Mojang)
The Slayer's chances are still in the air and hopefully we get to see some representation eventually. As a Mii Costume or a character. Preferably a character.

I have a feeling part of the reason is not only relaxing music but also copyright issues since the composer C418 owns the rights to the Minecraft songs and also hasn't worked on it for a good while. Heck, that's also why I'm afraid we'll get no classic Doom music if Doomguy gets in.

Well then. ID Software it is, hopefully it is the case. At least we got confirmation that it can be the actual developers instead of the publishers which are given credit.
Honestly I don’t see why the 5chan leak could be bogus except for some wrong pallet swaps (Anlucia for hero and Master chief for Steve). It mentioned Steve planned for base game which would make sense to assume since talks have happens for years about him.
Oh, and it mentioned a Ninja Gaiden project that might not be brand new, I was skeptical about it but look at what leaked last month: https://www.thesixthaxis.com/2020/09/09/ninja-gaiden-trilogy-ps4-switch/
I admit, i haven't really paid attention to a lot of MineCraft stuff, since i last played it like what 6 or so years ago and all i did was doing random stuff on creative mode.
I also always thought it was weird seeing more than one MC game because it always felt more like a "game" than a "series".
Anyway, we're like 9 or 10 days away from the DLC and according to Romero himself, October 10th is Doom 2's actual anniversary or at least his prefered date for it.
Now i'll try that Twitter meda thing and hide it under spoilers to make the post shorter unless someone toggles the spoiler and sees media being properly dsiplayed, although except maybe a ZDoom forums link.
Doom inspired piece. An overpaint of a friend's character model. I didn't want to drift away from his initial design to much :) I'll post the base in the comments. pic.twitter.com/MmCxpqMTu7
Supercharge v2.6 is released! featuring new Scrap Gun sprites by @SuperUltra64, along with a handful of other QoL changes. download it here on Doomworld: https://t.co/eMFDQox3oQ
I'm back on #nanowadmo again for #blocktober! This time I'm not being as madly ambitious as for Keeper3 https://t.co/whn58TaCdD last year - instead, doing an "enhanced Doom Episode 1" styled mapset based on my extensive back catalogue of maps for abandoned community projects. pic.twitter.com/wvmkclIqGf

I don’t think that leak was legit, but it is interesting in that 4/5 characters that leak will be in the game, provided that all the Ryu rumors are true.

Everyone was so quick to write off this leak too which makes it even more ironic if Ryu Hayabusa actually does get in. I've said this since I started posting on here, but i'll sum up my thoughts on Ryu once again. In short, I think Ryu Hayabusa would be a fantastic addition to Smash. He feels like one of the last true NES reps that deserves to be in, well him and the Contra guy(I can't remember his name atm), and I'd be really happy for the fans that requested him if he actually does gets in; even though i've never even played a single second of a Ninja Gaiden game. I'd love to live in a timeline where we get every character from that leak in the game(specifically a certain demon killing space marine), but that'd be too perfect so that's not gonna happen. Really hoping that last part I wrote ages like milk.
Can't say I necessarily disagree with that percentage, things aren't exactly in Doomguy's favor these days. Though I try to remain optimistic as much as I can. Even with this low percentage though it's still nice to see people are talking about him, and actively requesting/wanting him in. He's even in the top 10 at globalsmashroster.com
Though I'd definitely say this isn't by any means conclusive of his overall fan demand since this is just one source.
I was making a comment on Youtube about how you can make a faithful to the source material Doomguy in Smash without having to add DOOM 2016 & Eternal's Glory Kills in Smash. The post got so long it looked like I was writing an essay so instead I scrapped that post and moved it here. lol
The alternative I had was to add Doomguy's power-ups into his moveset by pressing Shield+B. Each power-up lasts for 15 seconds, and the power-ups he could have are Haste, Berserk, Partial Invisibility, Invulnerability, and Quad Damage. In the spoiler I focused more on the Berserk power-up.
Doomguy has his power-ups as one of his mechanics, basically his own Monado Arts. A power-up is chosen by pressing Shield+B and you can cycle through them. Each power-up can only be used once per stock (like how Banjo gets a certain amount of wonder wings each stock).
When a power-up is activated a meter will show up, displaying how long until it runs out. When a power-up is activated Doomguy's eyes on his in-game model and UI portrait will also light up to the color of the power up
The Berserk power-up would be a hybrid Little Mac's K.O. Punch and Hero's Whack, and would instantly kill you in a poof of red and black smoke (the effect would look similar to getting hit by Whack and how Demons exploded after getting hit by Berserk in classic DOOM).
You can only use this move when your opponent reaches a health ratio past 99%.
If you land a hit with Berserk you gain half of your health back, instead of gaining 100% your health back when you first pick up the power-up like in classic DOOM.
When you're in Berserk you can't use any other moves except jab & f-tilt (which work like Mega Man's expect your throwing a punch each time) and jumping. Only one power-up can be used at a time so you can't combine Haste with Berserk or Partial Invisibility with Berserk and etc.
If you use a grab while in Berserk you can perform instant K.O.s inspired by Glory Kills. These animations are different from your normal grabs and would be special alternatives to Glory Kills (you don't rip people apart) but you'll perform a brutal looking finisher that results in an auto K.O. The camera zooms in whenever you land these grabs., similar to getting hit by K.O punch or Whack
That's pretty much my take on how I would handle the topic of "Doom Slayer can't be in Smash because he's too violent!" or "what's the point of having him without the blood and gore! RIP & TEAR!". Also when I mentioned how the power-ups would be one of his mechanics the other would be the armor and ammo drops whenever you land hits on your opponent. I've seen posts on how that can be balanced, but would having the ammo/armor/health pickups as well as having the power-ups at easy access like Monado Arts be a little busted? Then again people thought Hero was busted when we first got a look at his specials.
Levy's is... okay, I guess? And Hulshult just sounds like he's going through the motions of his previous work.
Granted, this is only a small snippet from the DLC music, but I'd be disappointed if we didn't get any glitch influence, classic Doom music references or the death metal choir.

I don't usually post in here, but I lurk and I just wanted to comment about glory kills. I wondered what people would think of Doomslayer being high damage/very poor knockback but with a 'Glory Smash' grab move that straight up deletes highly damaged opponents (Like in stamina battles). So far season 2's characters have all felt like they forgot they're in Smash now and they just keep playing their own game, it's great, and I think the gameplay loop of modern DOOM could genuinly be an interesting twist on the Smash formula.
Glory smash could be as simple as a throw to the ground and a stomp. No blood, no guts, no forcing Mario to eat his own eyes. Just raw aggresive animation and good sound direction/special effects.

I like Levy's a decent bit but I kinda agree about Hulshult. I think he does cool stuff but was already unsure about him capturing the full modern Doom sound. We'll see when it's fully out I guess.
While we're closer to TAG, a dumb idea i had was to incorporate 2016's demon rune into Doomguy's moveset, just so he could occasionally turn into some demons and use their abilities for the moveset.
Now that makes me wonder if a "shapeshifter" enemy could be possible in a Doom game, because it sounds gimmicky but hey, anything to make Hell stronger yet also more demons to kill.
So far, i'm okay with the new music.
Anyway, on Twitter a lot of modders/mappers are posting their stuff on #portfolioday, showcasing their works.
I also discovered two Doom mods with some weird minigame focus, one named "aVOID" (By bolon667 on Doomworld) and the other "Doomware" (For Zandronum), one being obviously based off Warioware.
I also recently saw Decino playing a literal FIREBLU themed map and the funny thing about the map is how it changes some assets to suit the theme, but also some innovative gameplay ideas it has, like using some switch based wall shields against Archviles during some rounds of enemies.
There's also this Doom RPG reverse engineering project https://www.doomworld.com/forum/top...neering-project/?tab=comments#comment-2200578 hope it continues and doesn't get lost in the void.
And apparently, someone did some exploits with Doom's engine, which lead to a playable Snake minigame but also other things.
