For some reason when i space, i use two wavedashes cause it create sooo much space.

Also after a WD sometimes i grab depending on my opponents position (sheild, dashing towards link & such)

@EA1K (WAS THAT IT?!?! I forget the nicky I gave you x months ago): how do I calculate the lag on a wave dash?
@Stos: I don't like throwing out grabs randomly. I guess "randomly" would be good, they woulnd't expect it, it would be better than the same old grab-gets-spot-dodged. I'll keep wavedash back grab in mind.

Link has a crappier WD because of his slow jump. If you only count the airdodge lag time everyone is the same (I think), but if you count jump time Link's is second worst or something like that.

All right, I've never played Link competitively before but it is my goal to be competitive with all characters in Melee, so what is probably bar-none the tactic I will be using most often with link?

and no, Link's wavedash (I know from experience) isn't long enough to wave dash again. Link is very choppy and not as smooth as marth (another reason I like him).

With Link you'll be using full jump nairs into double jump whatevers (usually more nairs) all the time.

And the truth comes out. I'm surprised Skler's combo video isn't something like

Nair! A Nair Video by Nair!
Combo's would be: Nair nair nair nair nair nair nair nair

Well the nair does ****.

But, to keep in the spirit of a guide, and that there is no stupid questions, and since this has become "ask about link", I'm going to ask this:
Is it possible to do SH Bair -> DJ 100% of the time?

As long as you bair as soon as you get off the ground you can DJ after it.
Thanks. Some times I do it on accident, some times i"ll do it 4-5 times in a row then never again (for the rest of my life). Controll over it would be nice.
Thanks for the info though. Some one should compile a Q & A over this.

It's EA3K =P

And it's frames before you leave the ground plus ten (ten is the lag from the airdodge).

I discovered a new Link tech to be unveiled at Mass Madness or the Maine smashfest. It's actually useful, so prepare to be amazed.

You gonna give us a video so us people stuck in... say... Ga can see it?

Once i officially blow everybody's mind at mass madness I'll release an epic video of the technique and the crowd its release draws.

Hint: It's a recovery tech that will make Link slightly harder to edgeguard and will improve his recovery by about 2-3 Links on stages where he can't hookshot. I'm still working out the details because I just discovered it today while in Psychology & Statistics. It has several variations too, so prepare to be moderately pleased. BLOWN AWAY!

Skler, which of the three link guides do you recommend? If you've even read them.

And, does anyone besides me actually use bomb setting? I mostly just use it for mindgames and to goof off.

Whichever guide has a good list of moves, their frames and hitboxes and whatnot, is the best one. I wouldn't suggest reading those guides though, they're ancient.

When I say actually useful I mean it's something that has obvious practical uses in games. I'd place it a little bit above the bomb jump in usefulness.

He has a bad matchup against YL and Luigi (nair is way too good + combos). The others are all either really close or Link's advantage.
hmm interesting. Seems good for LT tournies then :)
im surprised you didnt put DK as a link counter though. cargo uthrow->uair destroys heavyweights

DK has trouble with projectiles. Every time one pokes through his crappy shield it forces him to turn and face you. This makes bair out of shield (his usual approach) difficult. If link tries to rush down DK, then yeah he'll probably get grabbed and then owned by cargo->uthrow, but Link can just pressure his shield with projectiles, tap his shield with spaced nairs, etc. and stay at range enough to keep DK facing you a lot of the time and too far away to grab you.

I haven't personally played the matchup (though I play Kwan's DK allllllll the time), but this is what I'd imagine.

I think Link vs DK is really close to even. Link can give DK a hell of a time because of DK's shield and DK can make it really hard for Link with uairs, an unbeatable bair and a really good anti-Link edgeguard. At worst it's a slight advantage for DK, but I'd still call it even.

Only Maine knows it so far because I need to wait till Mass Madness or another tourny to get my hands on every version to make sure it works in each one. It might be 1.0 specific so far.

psh I'd rank the spair above bomb jumping too provided they're over 900% (and have broken free...) but you don't see me rolling no carpets.
