If you ask nicely, of course. And I've found that holding an assault rifle while you do it helps as well... Strange. Still, it's awfully good of them.

Hey, I was wonderring how to get better at his recovery move in Brawl. As hard as I try, I can't figure out how to get him to move up and over and I always end up dying for it. Is there a specific way that I have to move the control stick? Or am I just doing it wrong?

@Sangfroid: no worries, it happens. I'd help but I honestly don't play pika in brawl so I don't remember how much his upB differs. I'm assuming for you it's a timing thing, try different timings and try watching your hands as you do it to make sure it's doing what you think are the right motions.

Good luck at G2 axe!

I've noticed that I sometimes mess up doing the second part of pika's upB (and sometimes Pichu's), but only on certain TVs... on my TV I guess I'm so used to it that I almost never sd because the second part doesn't come out.

this post is dumb. please ignore, k bye.

Is pika/icies that bad? I remember Vanz telling me last summer he felt that Pika had a really easy time splitting them up, edgeguarding them and fighting SoPo. Getting grabbed by Icies == death for a large majority of the cast anyway...

I just think it is harder to avoid grabs with pikachu than other characters. Or that is what they are trying to say, I have little IC exp as pikachu.

One of the main issues, Max, with ICies vs Pika is that killing Nana only makes things slightly easier. There's still the threat of grab->death from SoPo (or at least chainthrow to like 90%+ where the next smash or bair will kill him). Pika does do decently to seperate the climbers and can gimp nana easier than much of the cast, but SoPo vs Pika is still a pretty even matchup.

Another couple reasons is Pika's general short range (and lack of "safe" pokes) and his horrible tech animation. These give pika few low-risk options, as anything that isn't safe either leads to getting grabbed or being forced to tech (which because of his slow tech makes it often relatively easy to grab him). Grab is death, as stated, so him having relatively few options that 'ensure' he won't get grabbed really hurts him.

As with all his matchups you have to get in on your opponent to do any damage, and his options to get in aren't stellar (one of the characteristics of most low tiers), he has to be a little risky to do damage. ICies punish pikachu for these risks harder than any other character in the game, so it's super scary.

uhm... don't get knee'd. and get back to the stage from the ledge better.
Idk if this works with pika (it should) but when falcon tries to up, do your downsmash and it will smash him off the side of the stage, then if he techs just do a nair or something.

lol i didnt really see me getting knee'd other then that 3rd stock where i got destroyed :> and can you give me an example of when i screwed up with getting back on :3 sorry i'm horrible at watching my own videos

and dsmash gimping works a lot better at low(<30%) % since they usually don't get the chance to tech and fall to their deaths. It won't work if they sweetspot but the best stage i know to do it on is yoshi story where the end is angled and its easy for them to fall and die

enh i don't have time to watch it again, but i noticed that you'd sometimes jump up and try to fair and get smacked. The one i remember is you jumped up into a charged dsmash.

Also. 1 knee is too many. you only got knee'd once, but what happened? you died. don't get yourself smacked in da head with justice.

@aesir: dsmash gimping doesn't work nearly as well with Pikachu, it's like an occasional easy stock rather than a reliable guarding technique. Ftilting downwards/dtilt works a lot better against sweetspotters.

@soju: you're probably like 20 times better than me but this is what I saw from the video:

0:23 - if you got the jump cancel off that might have been a really fast 1st stock...
0:26 - follow nairs at early %s (or any attacks that end wih the opponent close to you in stun) with a grab or usmash to maxmize combo options.
0:45 - ftilt/dtilt vs sweetspotters for the first hit, more time efficient (especially in this situation, ftilt would have hit and fsmash's lag is too big) and gives you time to think about your next move
1:03 - heh that was cool, it looks like you pressured falcon with that jump into spacing himself for a dtilt gimp :D
1:09 - never attack until you're sure invincibility is off >_<
1:54 - I think you could have followed up with another thunder...
2:27 - were you trying to up-b stall here?
2:44 - you probably already know this but you shouldn't jolt when falcon is that close to you.

The biggest point I can really see is that you recover from the edge with an edgehop almost every single time in the match, usually followed with a fair/uair. It comes out fast (the uair especially) but it's pretty easy to bait/outspace. Try waveland from edge>shield or stall a little to see what your opponent does. Also, be more prepared to tech, especially from set things like falcon's throws. I see a few missed techs from dthrow/uthrow, esp. on the last stock. Otherwise, most of the mistakes just feel like small accidents.

@dkuo- awww yea-uhhz, lol, i seriously just went over my video 10 times looking at the times you gave me and i was like. . . oooohhhhhhhhhh, this fella's got a point each time >u>

@aesir- no worries ^-^

@n64-for a split second i was like D: until i read the next line and yeah, i do lack ftilts, as with a lot of moves. just gotta keep adjusting my playstyle until it becomes amazing~

A big problem i have is i don't get enough play time, so my hand skills with the controller is lacking. I often make mistakes when i shouldn't because of that haha, im working on it though.

thx gaiz =w=

Haha I actually got that idea from how PP does critique on Falco videos. It seemed like a good way of pointing out a bunch of small things, except he sees so much more .-.

EDIT: Axe, was this intentional? Because if it was, I never thought I'd see the day double up up-B was used in tourney on purpose...

hmm, havne't been on here for a while, hope everyoen's doin good. Played some smash last night w/ my homies after a long break. Noticed a rise in energy in here from a recent genesis tournament, was fun and learned some stuff after watching the links especially axe's pikachu tactics and antics.

btw, when doin a smash during a long dash, is it faster to use jump cancel or down cancel?

I think that is personal preference, I crouch to cancel the run when trying to do a smash (I sometimes wavesmash though). but for grabs jumpcancel (idk if you even can crouch to cancel run into grab)

Its all personal opinion, i personally use down cancel for f-smash and d-smash and jump cancel all my u-smashes.

And yeah genesis is a lot of hype <3 even for us small group of pika players

At least you had somebody in brackets :(
Pichus get no hype (-.-")

I sometimes jumpcancel my usmashes, but usually crouch to cancel them.

lol @ aesirgod

thx for the tips guys, i will stick to down, it seems the easiest for me, yea i learned to jump throw a while back, very useful, i never wanna go back to his normal throw in terms of efficiency lol

but the dash grab is amazing, how pika dives at you with those tiny mouse arms, then misses and rolls over, and then is like its cool i gots dis, but gets knee'd
