if I'm being honest no ones probably replied to this bc it's really way too much that goes into reading and almost not really something you can practice.

If you do consider yourself a noob you're probably playing low level players and they're are the easiest to read bc they don't know how to mix it up and they also pick the most aggressive option most of the time. I honestly can't give you advice on how to read bc it's completely different at low mid and high levels of play and too much that goes into making reads successfully.

Focus on your opponent and try to discern his or her habits...

be sure to adapt to your opponent and anticipate changes in playstyle. There will be habits you can punish.

don't take offense to the the phrase low level. it doesn't mean your bad or anything it just means the level of play you're playing at is low. they're are certain things low level players do that mid players don't do bc they've gained exp and skills that put them beyond that and one huge dif between low and high level play is being good at making reads baiting them out and punishing them. the fact you're asking how to make reads tells me you're not playing at high level. a lot of the people here that have tons of knowledge and exp in this game don't play at high level. including myself. so don't think of low or mid level as bad think of it as a way to measure your improvement and one day reach high level play.

about that reading jazz like serious stuff man that really can't be taught. it's just something you develop overtime.

but ok some of the things you can try is reading rolls air dodges and when they will attack. say your opponent is on the ledge. how do they get off of it? does he attack? does he jump? pay attention to that. also when opponents have fallen to the ground close to the edge 70% of them will roll away from it. that's an easy read to make just pay attention to what your opp does then punish. when being juggled do they air dodge to the ground? or do they attack when falling? when u hit there shield do they instantly attack or roll behind you? when u roll behind them do they instantly roll back behind you? ask yourself these questions while playing and keep a mental note of your opponents habits eventually it'll become so easy you won't even have to think about it. you'll just pick up on it and punish.

sorry I can't be more helpful on the subject as I said its not really something you can give advice on its just something you pick up on your on.

really ? zero is probably one the most helpful brawl player

Zion, the perfect Marth mix up that does go into a "read" type of thing is as such.

You know that forward air on shied is safe? It's -3 frames on shield (or more tippered)
Human reaction speed is 10 frames or more and fair comes out in 4 frames, grab comes out in 6 frames plus you have a 2 frame landing lag.

So a good mix up / what the opponent ends up having to do is read themselves. If you go for a forward air that happens just before you land, your opponent can't react to whether or not you forward air or you just land and grab them.

Hey Marths, do you usually play without tap jump? I would imagine most keep it on for up B out of shield, but I wanted to see the pros and cons of toggling it. I'd also like to hear a good reason to change control schemes for marth at all.

depends on the mu, and battlefield is a standard cp for ic. my personal cps are battlefield, smashville and lyat cruise.

you need to know how to play on those cps tho, knowing what the cp stages are is only half the battle.

kel, it's better to turn tap jump off IMO it'll make your game a lot better. really no need to reconfigure your controls after turning it off either, unless u just wanna.

I have tap jump off and that's the only change on my GC controller. I Up b OoS with Y and don't really have any trouble with that.

I'm still curious as to what benefits there are? All I've heard so far is "use tap jump off, here's a workaround for up+b out of shield."

when you di or sdi up it forces you to jump and if you're hit again before touching ground you just lost a stock. even when off stage and you di up to avoid the corner blast zone, you have to jump and now you're off stage with no jump against mk, just not a good situation at all.

it's still down to preference, half of the marth lords use tap jump off and the other two do just fine with it on.

It only forces you to jump if your reaction time is terrible. You should be able to DI a hit even before it actually hits you.. And even if you don't I'm pretty sure it doesn't force you to jump unless you're really slow at it.

I have never jumped accidentally while trying to DI

For what it's worth, my reaction time is *** and I never lose my jump when DIing or whatever because they're completely unrelated. You DI before you MC and you don't jump until afterwards since you're still in hitstun.

I have TJ on and don't even lose my jump when I DS. It just takes a little practice

Sure you can, and I do. It's the same as tilting or using DS without jumping. Just don't mash the analog up and be gentle and you'll be fine.

I'm just asking to make sure there isn't anything I'm missing. Some characters pretty much HAVE to change their settings to play correctly (yoshi for example). I have played since melee, so tap jump is just natural for me. When I used MK I would use the tap jump to Dair camp because I could dair quicker on reaction than clawing. I claw a lot with Marth, and I noticed Mike does too, but I was wondering if there were any real uses for tap jump being off as opposed to on. The only instance I could think of was up B OOS.

all trolling aside the one and only reason why I personally made the switch is bc I co main snake and falco and I was tired of switching tags bc I do use tap jump off with them. so I just brought marth over to the party.

Just curious, why do you have tap jump off for snake? I don't see any benefit for it, or for falco for that matter. (I'm a snake main and am picking up falco)

Snake can literally DACUS with C-Stick Down C-Stick Up, so who cares about tap jump with him lol
